Piano for the queen: Condi Rice plays the Palace

Live from the palace — Condi Rice on piano!

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice performed in a piano quintet Monday night for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

Rice played Brahms' Op. 34 with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband's wife, Louise, on violin, and three members of the London Symphony Orchestra.

The queen gave Rice an audio recording of the performance as a gift.

Rice is a classically trained pianist who had expressed a wish to play at the palace.

She was making her final trip to Britain before President-elect Barack Obama takes office next month. On Tuesday, she gave a farewell speech to NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

What a way to end this phase of a great career.  Yes, she is a Republican but I have other reasons to be especially proud of Ms. Rice.  Little ole Black southern girl from my home town in Birmingham who made her city, family and self proud in spite of............  Hopefully her country too in some ways.  She has studied hard, made the most of her God-given giftings, etc and I just feel kinda warm and fuzzy when Condi is mentioned.  We have different political positions; she may not have always followed what I personally wanted, but my pride goes further back than her current status.  Many don't like Condi, but I kinda feel about her like I do the Bengals.  So folks, you may not have good stuff to say, but leave my Condi and my Bengals alone and we'll get along just fine! "Smile".  Maybe I'm living vicariously through Ms. Rice since we basically had the same background; she just followed through on parental and mentor guidance.  Whereas....................  I was a tad hard-headed and followed my own path. Not a bad path, just coulda been a bit more illustrious, perhaps!  But I'm ok and especially proud of Ms. Rice.  Just sorry she was/is a Repub.  tee hee --- Hey, she had to had one imperfection.  "smile"

    U go gul.........................

Wow, how cool is that?  Just for a moment or two to be able to perform in Buckingham Palace.  That beats out any vacation a regular person could have.  I'm not a fan of the republicans, but I'm very happy for Condi that she got to do this.  :0)

It looks like she didn't know whether to curtsey or not. A lot of people are like that when they first meet royalty, understandably. :)

I'm impressed she's now managed to fufil two of her childhood dreams in this country. The last time she was over here she went up to Blackburn because she'd heard it mentioned in a  Beatles song when she was a child and had always wanted to go. And now she's fufiled her dream to play piano for the Queen.

Wow, how awesome is that?  Regardless of how people may feel about her, she is an accomplished, talented woman who has worked hard to get where she is.

She is awesome.  I would love to have dinner with her.  Beautiful, talented, intelligent, worldly.  She has it all.
