A state court said Tuesday the former chief executive of Germany's Deutsche Post AG will go on trial next month on charges of evading roughly euro1 million ($1.26 million) in taxes through a foundation in Liechtenstein.
Prosecutors in the city of Bochum have charged Klaus Zumwinkel with avoiding taxes from 2002 to 2006 through his Devotion Family Foundation in Germany's tiny neighbor.
Zumwinkel resigned from his position earlier this year after Bochum prosecutors opened an investigation against him. He is the highest-profile suspect in a series of tax evasion investigations by German citizens using banks in the tiny tax haven of Liechtenstein.
Prosecutors say Zumwinkel set up the foundation in March of 1986 and estimate its worth at the end of 2006 at euro11.8 million.
The trial is scheduled to open on January 22 and run throughout January 26.
