PARIS — The head of the World Trade Organization does not expect stalled global trade talks to resume until a few months after U.S. President-elect Barack Obama is inaugurated in January.
WTO chief Pascal Lamy says in an interview with the French daily Le Monde published Saturday that it will take several months after Obama's arrival at the White House for efforts to secure a new global commerce pact to begin again.
The WTO acknowledged Friday it had failed to secure a new agreement before the end of the year because of disagreement between the United States and emerging economies over trade rules applying to agricultural and industrial goods.
