CAREER: After Navy service, joined P&G in June 1977 as a brand assistant on Joy dishwashing liquid; worked in a variety of positions including president for Asia business and president for global beauty care and North America before being named president and CEO in 2000. He became chairman in 2002.

HIS COMPENSATION: Nearly $25.6 million for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2008.
