Lisa Marie Presley defends Scientology

LOS ANGELES — Lisa Marie Presley is expressing her condolences over Jett Travolta's death and defending Scientology, the religion that Presley, John Travolta and Kelly Preston follow.

Presley's MySpace blog on Tuesday read: "I am writing this because I have noticed that for the most part, people and the media have been very sympathetic and respectful, but there are those certain ones that want to use this horrible tragedy as an opportunity to once again, blame and-or attack Scientology."

Elvis Presley's daughter also writes that it's untrue that Scientologists do not believe in medical care and insisted if "a medication will make it better then they take it."

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

She looks remarkably like Elvis' mother, who dies of a heart attack in 1957 at, I believe, the age of 42.

I've thought about doing another Scientology article because of the Travolta thing, but I decided not to out of respect for the family.

Let me say this only: Scientology was invented by a failed sci-fi writer. That is a fact.

In his Reader's Digest interview, L. Ron Hubbard is famously quoted as saying, 'You want to make a million dollars? Just invent your own religion...'

That is ALSO a fact.

Do you have to come up with big bucks to 'move on to the next level' in Scientology and have 'things' revealed to you?

Yes.

Do Scientologists perform lie detector tests on each other all the time, courtesy of L. Ron's machinery?

Yes.

Does moi want to be a part of any of this? Are you kidding? I'm just a dumb farm kid from Washington. (laughs) I write sci-fi occasionally. I've never thought about making up my own religion based on it.

Pretty slick trick though I must admit.

I was going to say, based on the picture, if Scientology makes you look like that, definitely crossing that off the list of things to do.....

And yet they are still practicing religion... furthermore a religion that makes even less sense than the rest.
