NORMAL — Wedding bells meant Taco Bell for Paul and Caragh Brooks.
Customers inside the fast-food restaurant continued to order tacos and burritos as the couple sat Friday in an orange booth at Taco Bell and exchanged vows.
"It's appropriate," groom Paul Brooks said. "It's an offbeat relationship."
Employees displayed hot sauce packets labeled with the words "Will you marry me?" They decorated the restaurant with streamers and balloons.
The bride wore a $15 hot pink dress and the entire wedding cost about $200. Several dozen guests looked on as the couple's friend, Ryan Green of Normal, administered the vows while wearing a T-shirt. He was ordained online.
"This is the way to go — there's no stress," said the groom's mother, Kathy Brooks.
Caragh Brooks, 21, of Australia, met Paul Brooks, 30, on an Internet dating Web site. They already had the same last name.
The couple wrote back and forth and talked on the phone for nine months before Caragh Brooks moved to the United States.
"We have the same brain, just in two bodies," Paul Brooks said. "We think alike in virtually every manner. We have the same interests, viewpoints."
He proposed on New Year's Eve and, because they like to spend time at the local Taco Bell, they decided to wed there.
"I would never have expected in my life in working here there would be a wedding," restaurant manager Carl Hamlow said.

Hey, if they're happy, and it's legal..then who are we to judge? Best of luck to the both of them.
Even more amusing, all of this took place in a town called Normal.
Matt,
Normal is indeed a state of relativity based on personal beliefs. What I believe may be normal you may think is outright ridiculous, and visa versa. Doesn't mean either of us are wrong, it's just a perception.
Personally, I think it's the perfect town name for a wedding like this.
Sgt, good point, but I've gotta go with Matt on this on, as the way you and I married was MUCH more normal! By reading what the couple said about their wedding, they knew it wasn't "normal," but this is very unique and if it makes them happy - good for them!
Hey to each his own!! I personally would not get married there, it would have to be Harveys!! Just kidding. But if it made them happy, that is all that matters. It is their life and they can do what they want with it and where they want!!! Maybe they have a taco fetish!!
I think it was a cute idea. Hey, why do it the way everybody else does it? Good luck to the couple....
Beats dropping 20k down on a wedding in these economic times. ;)
Paul and a lot of his guests are actually good friends of me and NV user thatsiebguy. We moved out of Normal last year to Columbus, OH and nearly died of shock when we saw them on the news this morning.
It is so them, though. Not really surprised at the means of wedding, more surprised it made national news.
And I am kind of embarrassed to admit, these are actually my friends from my home town. It's rather fitting though that Paul do something like this that puts Normal on the map, albeit for 15mins. Perhaps it's a good thing I moved last year. :D Our friends are saying the news made it all the way to LA/San Fran, and Australia.
Normal is actually named after the school it surrounds, that being ISU (Illinois State University) which was originally (and still is) a teachers college.
Good for them and cheaper on their pockets too.... they saved thousands doing it that way.
I would not be embarrassed sieb!! I think it was kind of different, but nothing to be embarrassed about. Could have been worse, you could have been there and made the news too. Thanks for the info on why the town is called Normal though. I was kind of wondering why it was named that. They say you learn something new everyday, and that was my lesson of the day. Thanks!! have a good day .
