SCOTTS VALLEY — Hard drive maker Seagate Technology said Monday that it named Chairman Stephen J. Luczo to the additional posts of president and chief executive.

Luczo, 51, succeeds William D. Watkins, who will assist during the transition. Luczo and Watkins, 55, will also meet to determine what potential role, if any, Watkins will continue to have with the company.

Luczo has held various senior management positions at Seagate over the last 15 years. He served as CEO of Seagate predecessor Seagate Technology Inc. from July 1998 to July 2004. He has been chairman since June 2002 and will continue in that position.

Seagate fiscal second quarter results on Jan. 21 after the market closes.

Last month the company lowered its second-quarter sales outlook to a range of $2.3 billion to $2.6 billion, down from a previous forecast of $2.85 billion to $3.05 billion.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect revenue of $2.81 billion.
