Scoop: Watts opens up about loss of Ledger

Take a look back at the key roles and leading ladies in the actor’s life

— Naomi Watts is interviewed in the Feb. 1 edition of Parade magazine, and the actress opens up about the death of her ex-boyfriend, Heath Ledger.

The two met in 2002, when they were making the Australian film “Ned Kelly.” Watts remembers, “When I got to the set and did that first scene with him, I was like, ‘Wow! This guy is alive.’ It was just something deep in his eyes. You could look into them, and they would tell a thousand stories in one glance. There was a wonderful mixture of power and fragility at work in everything he did, which just pulls you in. His strength didn’t scare you. It intrigued you. And his fragility touched you.”

They broke up in 2004 but remained friends. Watts tells Parade, “It’s still incredibly difficult.”

Watts is now in a relationship with Liev Schreiber. The couple has two sons together, but Watts doesn’t divulge whether plans to marry are in the cards.

“He and I have a family," Watts said. "We’re very much together. We just don’t have that certificate, and that’s okay with both of us. He gave me a beautiful ring, although I’m not wearing it right now.”

Wood says Rourke’s 'too old'
Given Evan Rachel Wood’s proclivity toward the non-traditional boyfriend (Marilyn Manson), it didn’t seem too far out of the realm of possibility that she might be dating Mickey Rourke after rumors of a lip-lock surfaced Jan. 25.

Wood cleared things up, however, telling Rollingstone.com, "I’m upset because I feel disrespected by the press and by Mr. Rourke," she said. "Just because I’m single doesn’t mean that you can take advantage of me. It’s unfair that the performances (in ‘The Wrestler’) might suffer because of all of these distractions."

And regarding her alleged affair with Rourke, Wood said, "I'm not attracted to him, he's too old for me. Nothing ever happened and nothing ever will."

Dead Denny gets a job
Are you following the “Grey’s Anatomy” mystery of how long will Denny Duquette go on haunting Izzie?

Here’s a clue that maybe it won’t be that much longer.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Denny, has signed on to star opposite Hilary Swank in the upcoming suspense thriller “The Resident” for Hammer Films.

The two have worked together before, in 2007’s “P.S. I Love You.” Production begins this May.

Weekend box office
Super Bowl weekend is generally not the strongest film-going weekend of the year, but the weekend could still be a good one overall at the box office, thanks to three wide releases.

“New In Town” starring Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr. is clearly trying to take advantage of women who want to see something other than football. But even though Connick Jr. has a strong niche following, Zellweger hasn’t been opening movies that well, even with major co-stars. (“Leatherheads” anyone?)

“The Uninvited,” with Elizabeth Banks, is at a disadvantage mostly because it’s the third horror film to come out in as many weeks and audiences do tire of the genre.

So all that said, I think Liam Neeson's “Taken,” which Fox is opening in more than 3,000 theaters, will be number one.

What's Wrong With Hazlett's Column Today:

1. Watts/Ledger. Hazlett, clearly your hook here today is a dead movie star who just received an Oscar nod. Shame on you. If you're going to write a column about Watts/Schreiber, then do so. As ridiculous as it is - it's better than dredging up Ledger's previous romances. What about Williams and Ledger's baby? Isn't THAT more relevant? Not that we want to hear about that, either. All of it is tragic. You could have done without this post. I mean, Watts memories should remain private and certainly not lead your column for public consumption.

2. Wood/Rourke. So now you're writing about "rumors of a lip-lock ?" Do you ever READ the stuff you write? BIG yawn. If only I had shares in whatever junk he injected into his face, I'd be richer! "..an alleged affair with Rourke.?" Who alleged this affair? YOU? What utter CRAP Hazlett.

3. Dead Denny. In a previous comment about a previous column you wrote, I called for the head of the writer who came up with this plot line. I still want his head - but severed v e r y slowly. Grey's can't broadcast this crap quickly enough for me, so we can be done with it. We can however see this is a naked attempt by some publicity hound/friend of yours to get a mention for Morgan and/or "The Resident." Gee, I can't wait.

4. Weekend Box Office. OK, despite my pleas for you to suspend this boring item (like your predictions mean ANYTHING to ANYONE), you'll be 0 for 4 come Monday. I'll bet you $1,000.00 to YOUR favorite charity if I'm wrong. You know how to get in touch with me. I'll have you a credit card receipt by the end of business Monday if I'm wrong.

Hazlett, you're repeating yourself. Same stupid rumors, just changin' the names. So you get another D for this column. I would have given you a C, but for your utter lack of good taste in leading a column with Ledger and devolving into something about a completely different couple. I don't want to repeat MYSELF, but shame on your Hazlett. For Shame.

BRING ME THE HEAD OF JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN FOR AGREEING TO SUCH A RIDICULOUS ROLE.

I could EAT pen and paper and PUKE a better column.

Randy from Maine.

I wish America was more concerned about the little guys who are honest and hard-working (or want to be) than with a guy who made it big but couldn't take it. Yes he was a good actor, and maybe a good person. But there are a lot of other people out there who don't have the advantages Ledger did who need help, and they may be better people than he was.

Apparently he wasn't "strong" - the proof is in the pudding.

He was a drug addicted loser. He couldn't handle fame and fortune. So he offed himself. Goodbye. Good riddance. I just hope people will quit talking about you sometime soon. It makes me want to vomit.

    Just my opinion

The only movie I have ever seen Heath Ledger in was "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson. I loved this movie and sometimes watch it when I am in the mood for it. I thought he was a really good actor and could have been a much better one if he would have taken Mel Gibson's advice. I do not know much about him except that one story stated he committed suicide, and the other stated accidental overdose. One of the Olsen girls was willing to blab her mouth about the pills Heath got from someone, but the Olsen girl wanted immunity first. I don't know what was going on in this kid's head, but way too many actor's and actresses get away with WAY too much. I guess Heath will never get away with anything again huh?

If Randy of Maine has such a problem with Ms. Hazlett's column why does he keep reading every day???

So I can write every night, of course. It's bad enough we have these celebutards in our midst, but to report on them with phases such as "rumors of a lip-lock" well, she just BEGS to be mocked. And I'm quite happy to mock her!

I feel for his wife, and yes, the man died much, much too young. It is a tragedy. But not a bigger tragedy than the thousands of people who die every single day due to hunger, disease, war, and violence. This man's life was not any more important than any of these people's.

He killed himself cause she dumped him and took his kid away. Then she acts all sad about it after the fact. If she was a real woman she would of stood by her man and helped him sort out any problems he had.
