Poll: Obama's rating at all-time high

WASHINGTON — TON - After Barack Obama's first six weeks as president, the American public's attitudes about the two political parties couldn't be more different, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds.

Despite the country's struggling economy and vocal opposition to some of his policies, President Obama's favorability rating is at an all-time high. Two-thirds feel hopeful about his leadership and six in 10 approve of the job he's doing in the White House.

"What is amazing here is how much political capital Obama has spent in the first six weeks," said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. "And against that, he stands at the end of this six weeks with as much or more capital in the bank."

By comparison, the Republican Party — which resisted Obama's recently passed stimulus plan and has criticized the spending in his budget — finds its favorability at an all-time low. It also receives most of the blame for the current partisanship in Washington and trails the Democrats by nearly 30 percentage points on the question of which party could best lead the nation out of recession.

But the poll also shows potential dangers for Obama and the Democrats. For instance, there's a sizable gap between the president's personal popularity and the popularity of his policies.

And it contains some hope for Republicans, given the public's concerns about the costs of Obama’s policies and programs. "When does gravity begin for President Obama?" McInturff asked.

Obama’s high marks
In the survey, 68 percent have a favorable opinion of the president, including 47 percent whose opinion is "very positive" — both all-time highs for Obama in the poll. Moreover, 67 percent say they feel more hopeful about his leadership and 60 percent approve of his job in the White House.

Yet the percentage of Americans who are confident that Obama has the right goals and policies for the country — 54 percent — is slightly smaller, suggesting that the president is more popular than his policies are. An example: 57 percent tend to support the stimulus, compared with 34 percent who tend to oppose it.

Still, these attitudes about Obama have helped fuel a big jump in the percentage of Americans who believe the U.S. is headed in the right direction, according to the poll. In January’s NBC/Journal poll, 26 percent said the country was on the right track; now 41 percent think that.

McInturff attributes this jump to Democrats who have been pleased by Obama’s actions — such as the stimulus’ passage, his announcement that he will close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, and his declaration that most U.S. troops will be out of Iraq by Aug. 2010. “If you’re a Democrat, that’s a pretty good six weeks compared to the last eight years in their mind,” he said.

A “long leash”
These high marks for Obama come at a time when Americans are increasingly pessimistic about the economy. Only seven percent say they're satisfied about the state of the economy, which is an all-time low in the poll. What's more, a whopping 76 percent believe the economy still has a ways to go before it hits rock bottom.

Obama, Hart says, "has done a Herculean job in raising the spirits and mood of the American public against what is an economic tsunami."

According to the poll, part of the reason why Obama's numbers remain high despite these economic concerns is that the public doesn't blame the president for the current state of the economy. Eighty-four percent say this is an economy Obama inherited, and two-thirds of those people think he has at least a year before he's responsible for it.

"That's a long leash," McInturff says. "It normally doesn't last that long. But believe me, that's a good place to start."

Yet McInturff cautions that while these numbers suggest a patient public, "Americans are notoriously impatient people."

A tough six weeks for the GOP
While the poll — which was conducted of 1,007 adults from Feb. 26 to March 1, and which has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points — finds Obama in a strong position after his first six weeks as president, the same isn't true for Republicans.

Just 26 percent view the Republican Party positively, which is an all-time low for the party. That's compared with 49 percent who have a favorable view of the Democratic Party.

In addition, a combined 56 percent say the previous Bush administration deserved "almost all" of the blame or a "major part" of the blame for the partisanship in Washington, and a combined 41 percent say the same of congressional Republicans.

By contrast, only 24 percent say that of congressional Democrats and just 11 percent say that of the Obama administration.

Also, the public overwhelmingly believes the GOP's opposition to Obama's policies and programs is based on politics: 56 percent say they're trying to gain political advantage, versus 30 percent who say they're standing up for their principles.

Finally, Americans don't seem to have confidence in the Republican Party when it comes to the economy. By a 48-20 percent margin, they think the Democratic Party would do a better job of getting the country out of the recession.

Republicans, Hart argues, "have been tone deaf to the results of the 2008 election... They never heard the message. They continue to preach the old-time religion."

McInturff, the GOP pollster, agrees. "These are difficult and problematic numbers."

Concerns about pork and spending
Nevertheless, Republicans can take comfort that some of its political messages are resonating with the public. The top three concerns about Obama's stimulus were that it contains too much pork-barrel spending, that its tax cuts are too small and that the spending is focused in the wrong areas.

What's more, 61 percent say they're more concerned that the federal government will spend too much money and will increase the size of the deficit, than they are concerned that the government will spend too little money in trying to get out of the recession.

Still, in the first six weeks of his administration, Obama and the Democrats find themselves in a much stronger position than their GOP counterparts.

"It is an amazing feat in terms of what Barack Obama has accomplished against the most difficult terrain one could imagine," Hart says.

And as for Bipartisanship. No kidding that the republicans dont want to go along with this president.

Did we have Bipartisanship when Bush Was president did Nancy Pelosi come over and help the president every chance she got. Now that the Dems Have the presidency and 60 percent of congress the news is saying the Republicans are obstructing the business in Washington. What a load of crap!

I would like to know who they are polling. I hear a lot of people talking while they are waiting for the lab, the doctor, standing in line at the post office, over coffee. No one I know thinks he is doing a good job. I think it has to be the inner city and the elitie of NY, San Francisco, LA, and places like that. It's hard to believe. We must not let their polls discourage us.

Gallup shows his disapproval rating going up faster than his approval ratings are going down. Exactly who was called in this "poll"? I'm sure Pelosi was put in charge of "oversight" in the poll, or even better......Biden, who can't even remember where he is supposed to keep up with spending. What is that website's number?

That "poll" is going to bite them in the butt in about 6 months.

Jimmy Carter low at 58%, eh? Yea, that sure does suck. Where were Bush's numbers at the end of his term... 143%, right?

But take a moment to reflect on this poll. Instead of making an attempt to learn from or comprehend it, you're just dismissing it. And your numbers continue to sink. The radical right continues to isolate themselves. Sorry, your day is done, guys. Most people want bipartisanship and rationality, and following Rush Limbaugh is clearly not the way back into power.

Yeah, it's that Wall Street Journal and their liberal bias.

Incidentally, there are usually less than 1,000 people polled. With 300,000,000 Americans, you have about a 1 in 30,000 chance of being contacted in one of these polls. That's why you don't know anyone who's been polled.

Regular "lib". Compare outgoing numbers to incoming. Know what? Bush's numbers matched O's at the beginning of his term. And that was WITH you crying bunch of whiners saying "oooooh, he stole the election!".

Highest approval rating after 30 days? Carter at 71%. Lowest, Reagan at 55%. Nixon had 6% diapproval to O's 26%.

Let's compare O's outgoing numbers to Bush's outgoing numbers.....in 4 years. Shall we? I'm guessing he will beat Carters for an all time low.

Ha ha ha... I'm laughing at you suppressive jerks on here who wouldn't care who it was. You will always find something wrong.

I had a job long ago taking political polls. There is a science to polling. Online polls are not scientific. You can't control the sampling.

Back when I did them, we recieved a list of registered voters from various zip codes. The sampling criteria may have been they must have voted in the last two elections or last two national elections. It depends on what the anonymous party is looking for. The people collecting the data didn't know who the client was.

We would establish a sample rate by zip code in relationship to the population in the zip code. Once the sample rate was established, we would begin calling people until we reached the number of respondents for a zip code. Some zip codes only required that we contact as little as 1 respondent. Once we had a completed survey, that zip code would be closed. While others may require contacting thousands.

The polls were conducted by phone, and questions structured in a way so that when the data is crunched, even if someone tried to sway the poll one way or the other, we would know that. If a data collector tried to sway a poll that would be known as well.

So if you hang up on someone calling asking for your opinion, your opinion won't be counted (can't count what we can't get). If you didn't vote, you won't be called.

If you're mean, angry or just plain rude, there will be an additional charge for putting up with you (okay this is just a joke).

Poll:

1. Is Obama a good president?
2. Is Obama a great president?

Poll's can be skewed in the way a question is asked. I have been polled before, and could tell by the question itself, what results they were looking for. I hung up on them.

We now have a Congress, that regardless of political affiliation, has managed by their own inept, incompetent conduct to squander the morals, honestly and integrity of the offices they hold. Their incompetence is why taxes need raising. Had these idiots done the job properly as they were entrusted to do, there would be no need to raise taxes. Get rid of all illegals, get rid of all the crappy, ineffective Elected officials at every level of government. What we are witnessing is a power grab of the American way of life, by his Highness Obama,"AKA" Head Pimp, and his cohorts, Pelosi, Reid, Franks, Dodd, who are complicit in prostituting the entire Country. Get government to hell out of my life, and let me be responsible for my success/failure, not penalize me because I choose to work hard and be prosperous, only to tax me heavily because I do so, to benefit some jerk who does not. I know not what "responsible "poll" was taken to say Obama is more popular than ever, but his policies are suspect. What a lot of ignorant "reporting"< it does not take any pollster to begin to see, that there is a real firestorm of resentment building, and there is going to be hell to pay, if this administration continues to believe they can do as they please, at the peril of the American people.

I'm not sure the Wall Street Journal would be considered a liberal publication. As far as the poll, if it is accurate it certainly would classify a new group to minority status in America. That would mean those with the "I hope he fails" mentality are nearing extinction. That also would help explain the negativity as fear as opposed to ideology.

I am. Big difference between the business section and the news section.

An additional feature of the study shows how each outlet compares in political orientation with actual lawmakers. The news pages of The Wall Street Journal scored a little to the left of the average American Democrat, as determined by the average ADA score of all Democrats in Congress (85 versus 84). With scores in the mid-70s, CBS' "Evening News" and The New York Times looked similar to Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., who has an ADA score of 74.

finds Obama in a strong position after his first six weeks as president, the same isn't true for Republicans.

Mark, are you referring to the these last six weeks or the first six weeks of Bush's administration. also, if referring to the latter, do you mean the six weeks in the beginning of Bush's first term or second term. Clarity Mark. I want clarity.

Just 26 percent view the Republican Party positively, which is an all-time low for the party. That's compared with 49 percent who have a favorable view of the Democratic Party.

26+49=75. Where is the other 25% Mark?

In addition, a combined 56 percent say the previous Bush administration deserved "almost all" of the blame or a "major part" of the blame for the partisanship in Washington, and a combined 41 percent say the same of congressional Republicans.

By contrast, only 24 percent say that of congressional Democrats and just 11 percent say that of the Obama administration.

Mark, why did you switch up and start using combined numbers? Why don't you tell your readers what Combined Numbersmean. Also, why did you break the same set of stats into two paragraphs? 41+24=65...., Wheres the other 35 Mark? 56+11=67....?? Oh Mark. Nice how in the paragraph #1 you quoted admin opinion first and Congressional opinion second but in paragraph #2 you switched the order.

By a 48-20 percent margin,

Now maybe I'm having a brain cramp, But can any one tell me what this means?

What's more, 61 percent say they're more concerned that the federal government will spend too much money and will increase the size of the deficit,

This little tidbit seems to be in conflict whit everything else you wrote.

than they are concerned that the government will spend too little money in trying to get out of the recession.

I just gotta ask, was there really any one concerned about this and if so what was the percentage.

OK, So that what you get Mark for writing and publishing garbage.

Good day.

I am one of those mental midgets who needs a little enlightenment from someone as brilliant as you.

I get the distinct impression from your post that you think that people who believe in conservative values have low IQ's.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of IQ do you believe that people who think we have 57 states possess?

Ok, here's what Rush Porkulous, "wrong" wing, george and dick, Con-man economics has produced in America:

My guess is all you winers not only don't admit this, but I challenge you to tell me why it's healthy. Why it's democratic, why it' economics Jesus would vote for:

    Solid facts:

20% of Americans own 84% of America's wealth.
You and I are the 80% who get to live on the 16% of everything that's left over.
That gap grew WORSE under Bush.
    http://sociology.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html

In 2006, 400 Americans made $286 Million each in personal income and paid 17% tax. I paid 36% tax the same year, how about you? (The story is NOT that I needed a tax guy so I could beat the system, too)
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=100073978

    More facts on Republican dogma:
    “Let's look at the record.
During the 20th century, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 7.3 percent per year on average under Republican presidents. Under Democrats, it rose 10.3 percent - which means that investors gained a whopping 41 percent more. And the stock market declined further during George Bush's two terms.

Moreover, according to research from Professor Larry Bartels of Princeton, real middle class wage growth is double when a Democrat is president, contrasted to that growth under a Republican president.

Since World War II, Democratic presidents have increased the national debt by an average of 3.7 percent per year, and Republican presidents have increased it an average of 10.1 percent. During the same time period, the unemployment rate was, on average, 4.8 percent under Democratic presidents; it was 6.3 percent under Republicans.

    That's the historical record.

    1. If you really support conservatism, I hope you study the details of it's economics, they are disgusting. If "get out there and work" is your answer - remember, the 20% own 91% of financial wealth, so there isn't much left to divy up.

    2. Are you happy knowing that the bottom 80% of Americans own only 9% of America's financial wealth and 16% of it's net worth? Democratic? Christian? Hmmmm, is that air you breathing in this place, Neo? PLEASE CHECK THE FACTS!!!!!

We are the only ones who can save us - so get informed. Now. And, if you think watching TV news will inform you, you are defeated already.

THE REASON THE 20% IS THERE is not that they are smarter, manage their $ better or they deserve to be. We put them there with Laffer curve, supply side economics. A lasting neo Con legacy. That's YOUR work, Con-men.

This past election was literally or illiterally a Publishing Clearing House Sweepstakes drawing for President. The vote for the Obama ticket was basically cast by those who wanted something for nothing, hey you can't win if you don't play, right? Well the election is over, you didn't win, and the only significant "Change" is the slide in the Dow. The latest news I heard was that Obama was actually going to save tax dollars by flying Air Force One himself rather than having a Captain fly the plane, the only problem was that during his flight training he didn't find it important to learn how to actually land the plane, why does that sound familiar?

You posted this crap somewhere else too. What was it? 36% on $80,000? Guess what.....you're a tool. Fire your accountant. You did NOT pay 36% in taxes. He embezzled it from you because you were too dumb to realize there is no 36% tax bracket on $80k. Let me explain your fuzzy math to everyone.

    Rich: 17% federal tax

You: Federal, State, Medicare, Social Security, 401k, and every other thing that gets taken off your check......36%.

Know what mine is? 45%. Know what my federal tax bracket is? 17%

20% of Americans own 84% of America's wealth.
You and I are the 80% who get to live on the 16% of everything that's left over.
That gap grew WORSE under Bush.

Then go to college, get a degree, get a job, and GET OUT OF THAT 80%! YOU choose to remain there. No one in this country is forcing you. That says more for our education system under Bush than it does "the rich get richer, waaah waaah waah".

Heck, I thought, during Clinton, it was the top 15% owned 90%, so what are you complaining about? Oh wait.....it was the top 15% paid 90% OF THE TAXES!

Quit whining and get a better job.

Geez Louise conservatives...would you like some cheese with that whine? Can't take the truth? Here are a couple foolish examples:

What a complete joke MSNBC is and will always be.

As has been said elsewhere in this discussion, the poll was NBC and the Wall Street Journal...owned by Rupert Murdock, who also owns Fox News. What, did Murdock tell them to tank the poll so his talking heads like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck would have more material to whine about? Sheesh.

20% of Americans own 84% of America's wealth.
You and I are the 80% who get to live on the 16% of everything that's left over.
That gap grew WORSE under Bush.

Then go to college, get a degree, get a job, and GET OUT OF THAT 80%!

This is even sillier. So what, should everybody "get out of that 80%"? If they do, 100% of Americans would own 100% of America's wealth. To do so, some of the existing 20% would have to give up some of their wealth...how else is someone going to get out of that 80%? By printing more money so everyone will be on a roughly equal footing? Doesn't that, in the long run, constitute "redistribution of wealth"? Isn't that what you guys have been bellyaching about from Day One?

Just because you guys don't like it, or didn't get called on to vote on it, doesn't make it any less true. Find me a poll not consisting of votes solely by Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Reilly that doesn't show Obama with high approval ratings. You can't...because they don't exist! So cry me a river...and bow down to the "leader" of your party, Rush Limbaugh...

One year later, her approval ratings have fallen to 30ish.

That does not mean the same will happen with Obama; just one point to consider however.

I write fact - you write ?? What? There is no substance to your words, you put words after each other, but they tell us nothing. Are you trying to BE rush? Remain brazen and uninformed, you’ll have it down. And gain about 75 pounds.

THIS is a perfect conservative/liberal argument. I tell you that you, and the majority of Americans are being cheated, as they pay full taxes and Americans who make $269 million a year pay less than half taxes. Fact. Not debatable.

Your answer is: I’m a tool. A tool for what? Speading fact? Great, real helpful. Maybe you can cite why tax benefits for the rich are helpful to the economy? Although, in the light of crrent reality, that would be hard to prove. I give fact, I get warmed over, regurgitated Limburger.

“you were too dumb to realize there is no 36% tax bracket on $80k.” Rush Rules

“Know what mine is? 45%” ???

You pay 45% tax, while Warren Buffet pays 17.7%? And you defend the right of the rich to pay less than half, while making 289 million a year?

“20% of Americans own 84% of America's wealth.
You and I are the 80% who get to live on the 16% of everything that's left over.

I should go and try to be in the 20%? That still leaves inequity for the country.

THE POINT! 20% of Americans owning 84% of yearly income wealth and 91% of financial wealth is NOT democratic, it is not helpful to the economy, and it is the direct result of conservative economic policy. To counter that you use FACT!!!!! Facts about how the majority of American wealth sitting on top while the majority of America gets 9% of America to make our lives with, how that is helpful, how that is good for the economy.Defend with facts, not rush limberger barf. We are coming off 8 years of con-man economics. Those who read and are informed know the disaster those policies have caused this country. We are all poorer for it. Except the 20% - they had a great run, their fortunes increased 39% in 8 years. Those are facts. Reality.

Thats the trouble with you repubs and polls - yoiu just don't like the facts.

Rasmussen (repub hack) always has lower poll numbers - but let's look at his for factual trends.

        1. Jan 20 (inauguration) 67%

        2. Feb 6 - 60%

        3. From Feb 6 through today the poll has fluctuated between 58% and 60%

        4. Poll today is at 60%

Don't see this "sinking trend" you like to talk about - seems real "consistent"...

If he can maintain this kind of consistency through one very tough month - I think it shows he is getting the support he needs.....

But you on the right....keep denying - it's a good thing!

"how 'bout we give the man a chance to work on the problems before compairing him to all those before him?"

The "wait and give him a chance" comment is generally a sure sign of problems, it comes out when problems arise against the people from the very first policy. Never, ever, just "give someone a chance," that type of action only gets us into deeper trouble. No, you give no chances; when a poor policy is thrown out there, you stand against it and do everything in your power to keep things that will hurt every financial class from becoming law.

There's a chance you may live if you walk off of a two hundred foot cliff. Do you step off that ledge, just giving it a chance because you may survive? No, of course not. When a President does something that obviously will hurt the population, you stand against it, period. Giving it a chance is a horrible comment. Take more from the job creators, jobs are lost, period. I'll give something a chance when the chance is that it will create jobs and boost the economy instead of tanking it. When the greater chance is that it will cripple the economy and cost tens of thousands of jobs, while you may stand there and give it a chance I'll be rallying against it at every turn. As soon as I see something with a chance of bringing positive results, I'll give it the chance it deserves. So far though, I haven't seen anything that deserves that chance.

In 2006, 400 Americans made $286 Million each in personal income and paid 17% tax. I paid 36% tax the same year, how about you?

According to your figures, those 400 people paid a total of almost 50 million dollars in taxes each or a total of almost 20 billion dollars. Why didn't you include those figures? Don't they mean anything?

A friend of mine answered a phone poll and figured if she didn't answer that she liked the president, and they already had her number, she would be marked as a rasicist. Feeling safe to say she disagreed tremendously with his policies but afraid to say she didn't like the president.

        Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

We'll see how popular Obama remains as the debt keeps piling up and as liberals in congress like Pelosi, Block, Ried, et al continue to mistake HIS popularity with their own. I don't buy for a minute that Obama's not a standard issue "progressive," but I think he's wily enough to know how far is too far. His liberal brethern in Congress don't seem to be on the same page, and they use his popularity to float their own pet issues. But then, when one is planning massive social changes, it helps to have such distractors......

Since close to 50% don't pay taxes you can assume he will be popular with them. I expect a lot of those are too stupid to realize what he is doing to this country with his policies.

Even he admits he does not what will work but that does not give him pause before he enacts policies that once started we may not be able to revoke.

It took the Dems in congress two years to create this mess or 6 years by the Repubs depending on how you choose to look at it but in either case it defies logic to think that a scheme dreamed up in the dark of night is required to fix a problem so long in making.

If you come on a car wreck, you stop the bleeding then fix the broken bones later. The nose job and boob lift can wait until the patient is healthy.

There are just as many rich Dems driving gas guzzlers as there are poor Repubs eating government cheese. Give the stereotypes a rest already.

If the poll results suggested that the public had no confidence in the Obama Administration, you would be singing the praises of the pollsters. But since you don't like the results, you feel compelled to deny their validity.

As we move on into this year, I will be reminding some of you who blind faith in this man, that there is a problem. It is called money! or the lack of it. Can we say 1.7 Trillion dollars.

For the last 30+ years, we have been borrowing money as our Federal Debt has been rising. This debt has been covered by the Social Security fund, by T-Bills purchased by Americans, by foreign countries (e.g. now China, Japan, Arab countries). But the problem will arise, if these countries do not continue to loan us the money to cover this debt. We will then have to really start printing worthless paper money and inflation will KICK-IN, in a big way.

As I have mentioned before, my estimate was that we had a consumer spending inflation of necessity goods of about 20% last year. Our future inflation could be a lot worse per year than that.

Polls measuring support and confidence in the President can change with the Wind ! All of you Obama supporters, who are counting on his Stimulus package to bail you out, need to keep hoping and praying for the best.

We may be in for inflation that will make the Carter Era look like nothing !

They never polled me, or the hundreds of active duty military men and women that are filing suit against Obama to tell the truth about his birth certificate, or the thousands of American men and women that are protesting and organizing tea parties across the country against Obama's blatant disregard for the Constitution of the United States.

        Poll that MSNBC.

Are you having fun complaining? Anyone notice that while you were busy standing up for them, Con-men came and took your money?

Nope, too busy writing really thoughtful, fact filled opinions, like this one"They really do think the public is stupid. Think again, King of Kenya."

Anyone have a WELL THOUGHT OUT, STUDIED OPINION, OR ARE YOU ALL JUST PROFICIENT AND REGURGITATING RUSH PORKULOUS? Can you say, "propaganda pig?"

        I knew you could.

Try this on and see if you are awake at all:

The Con-men took your f...ing money, man. Check it:

20% of Americans own 91% of America's financial wealth.
You and I are the 80% who get to live on the 9% of everything that's left over.
That gap grew WORSE under Bush.
        http://sociology.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html

In 2006, 400 Americans made $286 Million each in personal income and paid 17% tax. I paid 36% tax that year, and you? Mr. Con, did you rip off your government by not paying ALL your taxes? No?

The last time I did a survey and did not answer positively they hung up on me. In talking to some other people some had the same thing happen. So if you don't answer the way they want you to they hung and your opinion don't count. I can not believe the numbers in this pole when I hear so many people upset with what is going on. Poles can be fixed, elections can be fixed anything can be fixed. America is tanking and all our congress and BO can do is spend and than spend some more and is it really helping the people? Watch and see who gets hired first and than watch as the contractors with government contracts get hired and so on and so on and just when does the common person get hired? All this money going to banks and what not that can't manage it and what about those of us who have managed to stay afloat and pay our bills just what in the hell do we get, oh a small tax cut/credit and just what is that going to do, in my case it will not even make one house payment, it is like we are getting punished for doing it right. Okay off the soap box and stop venting. I am just mad. As always just my opinion.

b dune, this is the second conversation we've had about poll numbers. Poll numbers really are like poker chips: they should be counted at the end, not at the beginning. As I pointed out the first time, George W. Bush at one time had a 90% approval rating. Look where that got him. I also notice the poll numbers you're quoting now are very different from the ones you posted the first time - yes, the numbers are for the same period. The Newsvine story from the first debate is at http://politics.newsvine.com/_news/2009/02/14/2436587-in-gingrich-mold-a-voice-for-gop-resistance post 5.16 just in case you forgot. Hope for peace, You've done a nice job of proving correlation, unfortunately for your argument correlation does not prove causation. If I wanted to do like you did and assume that correlation proves causation, I would ask everyone to hit the first link you provided. According to that link, the top one percent of Americans owned 37.2% of the total net worth of America when Bill Clinton took over in 1992. By 1998 (the last year the study provided numbers for the Clinton Presidency) the figure had climbed to 38.1%. During the Bush presidency it dropped to 33.4%. Some more figures given by the source you provided: the top 1% had 14.4% of the distribution of income early in the Clinton Presidency (no number is given for the exact start of it) and 20% when Bill Clinton left office. And if you think those numbers aren't in your favor, check out the chart on percentage of CEO pay. When Bill Clinton took over, it was at 200% times times a regular workers salary, 7 years later it was at over 500% a regular worker's salary! Again, these numbers are from the source you provided.

Hmmmm, is that air you breathing in this place, Neo? PLEASE CHECK THE FACTS!!!!!

I love that quote from you Hope. The problem with telling people to check the facts is that sooner or later someone will - and the facts don't present your side of the argument in a very positive light.....

I had expected Obama's "honeymoon" period to last a bit longer than it did, but given his policies and lack of ability to keep campaign promises, I am not surprised. I work for an organization who is using the same "robin hood" tactics (tax the rich to pay for the poor) and can't help remind them that it makes perfect sense for us to do it -- if the govt can, we should be able to get away with it too.

Read a story yesterday about how Obama's tax policies are all too similar to those implemented in the "Hoover" era -- the policies that put the word "great" in "Great Depression." Middle class haven't really been told about the taxes we'll be paying on energy -- from buying gas at the pump to anything that has to be transported. This might be a good story for msnbc to cover.

Why should this poll surprise anyone?

Obama is still blaming Bush for everything, even his most recent budget. Personally, I think the polls being taken are the result of people still being POd at Bush and the GOP. They haven't awaken to the fact that Obama is moving this country to the left and making a certain portion of the population totally dependant upon the government. Our welfare state is back. He is taking Rahm Emmanuel's advise---never let a crises go by w/o doing what you want. It makes it look like you are doing something to help the people even though the long term impact is ignored.

I give Obama credit. He looks at himself as a reformer, just as all community activist do. Unfortunately, their scope if very narrow. Remember, to improve a nation's "quality of life" you don't pull the wealthy down to everyone else's level, you raise the lower rung of the ladder to meet the top rung. Bringing the top rung down is call SOCIALISM-----just look at Cuba, Venezuela and, for the most part, Europe.

Hope Forpeace since you decided to post your swill twice, I'll post the response twice. Interesting you post THE SAME THING over and over in different seeds. Some would call that spam. The only "solid" fact in this is that you are gullible.

In 2006, 400 Americans made $286 Million each in personal income and paid 17% tax. I paid 36% tax the same year, how about you? (The story is NOT that I needed a tax guy so I could beat the system, too)

You are a bunch of whining, uncompetent fools !

But we do understand the difference between budget deficit and national debt. You might want to study up. In the 8 years of the Bush Administration, National Debt went up $4.5T (no, clinton did not have a surplus in national debt. National debt actually increased under clinton). Since Obama has been president....what 50 days or so? He has increased national debt by almost $4T and he hasn't even started yet, as you folks keep reminding us. At that rate, he will at least double Bush's "spending" (deficit spending).

            Patriot...

Liberals will wake up one of these days. Let's just hope it's not to late to get AMERICA back.

Look at this section only. We have libs that think they pay 36% taxes on $80,000, others that think Clinton paid off the national debt, and Bush increased ND by 11.5 trillion. O's plans are not socialistic because he is only going to hurt the rich.

When this is the mentality of most libs I see, and they are in the majority? This country is screwed. And it plays perfectly into O's and Pelosi's hands. They haven't even realized that there was no WAY for the porkulous bill to be written in 2 months. It has been there for a long time (pelosi's pet projects).....waiting......for people to close their eyes and worship at the alter of "change".

Not going to raise the taxes on everyone? Have you folks heard about what he plans to do with the mortgage interest deduction? Yes, that would be considered a tax increase. Just a hidden one. He's going to destroy the housing market even more.

            God help us.

You are right Lou, they haven't taken a poll from the Red states. I cannot find anybody who will claim to have voted for this American traitor.I can't even find anyone to admit to have voted for any democrat. Granted, I try my best to stay as far away from traitors as possible.

Yes, I am waiting for 2012 and I hope this nation is still alive and well but I fear for the future of a country when the people figure they can vote for any glad mouth and receive great riches from the government.

I see the great messiah is wanting to tax the rich. The rich now pay most of the taxes and do you reckon they will stand for much more. I see the Hollywood freaks telling the world they can stand more taxes but I wonder how it will play when they get taxed like the British or Canadians. I can hear the yelping from here already.

LOL, talk about ignorant idiocy,lol................. Heya slick, ever take a class in statistics? Of coarse you can pull #'s like that out of polls when the only people taking them are liberals................ But, lets say your right just for the sake that liberals are more concerned about messiahs poll numbers while the rest of the world is concerned on an idiot who blasts Bush for spending $$$ and then goes ahead and spends double :) ah, ok Mr. Prez..........I believe in your change alright, lol.............. and the song goes on, liberals prance behind this moron like the pied piper playing his flute. Anyhow, if I recall during the debates the liberals were crying about how the polls meant nothing and how wrong they were. They cried over how biased the media was being toward messiah based on his .............ahem...........skin color :) LOL, anywho..............typical liberals, when something seems to be in their favor or when something points toward backing that special someone they hold as a god, then it just has to be the gosh darn truth right?

Fact is, this idiot is no different than any other liberal that has plagued our nation. Spend money we dont have and tax the crap out of the people. Take Massachusetts for example. Obama is going to give us all 13-15$$$ per week extra in our pay checks right? Well, for those unfortunate enough to have a liberal idiot running their state this allows more taxes. Massachusetts very own "brother of Obama" Duval "gimmie a fin" Patrick, is raising the gas tax as well as the toll hikes, this in reality tripples the amount that his brother Obama would give in savings and guess where this revenue is going? LoL, right back to Obama for lending this state $$$ :)

If you think for one minute that Obama gives a rats azz about this nation your just as ignorant as the idiots who think this war was about oil. While the people who voted for this incompetent idiot feel that history has been made, indeed it has, history is that this was the worse decision made in US history and yes, I feel confident saying this with Obama being in the WH for only a few weeks. When you see a world crying tears about the first black prez who indeed is not black.............ah the political correct term would be mollato for those of the uneducated mind "might wanna look that word up" the liberals alradey have a plan of attack. You see, when messiah fails, they say its the white man in him, when he does good, it's the challenge of a new era :)

Sorry folks, as an American Indian I can no longer take this BS of a man who in plain view is destroying anything great about our nation. Obama is concerned about only one thing, legacy. Does this man have allot on his plate? Yes he does. Do I feel at all sorry for him? Yes I do to be honest. HE has to worry about holding the torch because of the racist pigs who put him in office. This election was more about skin color than choosing someone who could lead. IF we truley wanted a motivational speaker in the WH we all could have asked Toney Robbins to run and he would have given just as good if not a better speech than Obama. Fact is our nation was not in the worse financial situation it has ever seen prior to Obamas spending bill. The recession of the 1920's was about 15X's worse in comparison and when we look at the downturn during the Reagan years, it was about 7X's worse according to financial analyses yet Ronnie had a plan, cut spending and allow the people to repair a broken economy and guess what? We came back with one of the strongest economic strangleholds in the world. What makes our situation bad right now is we have an idiot who has his training pants on in the WH. We have a man who never should have been elected and to be honest, a bunch of guilt ridden white people put him their. A poll was taken 1 month ago by an independent group. When Caucasian voters who picked Obama were asked 3 questions on why they picked Obama the #1 answer was "I voted for him to help show Americans that we can put this racial division behind us".

Does this mean that everyone who voted for him was a guilt ridden white person who thought by voting in a half black/ half white man would mean they could flip the race card to prove their sorrow about slave ownership even though they had nothing to do with it? No. Does this mean their is not a black person in America who could bring our nation back to its greatness it once had? Absolutely not! In another poll taken in December of 2008, the question was asked about who Republicans wish would have been presidential candidates. An overload of statistics put non other than Collin Powell as their number #1 choice followed by Mitt Romney followed by Bobby Jindall.

I know this is a long post but my hope is that you learn something out of all this and that you will realize just how idiotic you sound showboating a true idiot who in less than 100 days has doubled our negative balance while still having the audacity to critisize Bush.

60% approval? That's about the number who voted for him in Nov.

Hasn't converted many, yet. Give him time, he'll keep pressing the "I won" political pressure, Pelosi and Reid will continue to push and pass the stupid "stimulus" spending until we won't have a snowball's chance of getting clear of this debt.

It's about time somebody started talking about taxing the rich again. Hey, stupid people in Washington...There are tax laws out there that tax everybody on their earnings. You have also given the rich (including yourself - re. Daschle) a loophole or write-off, or some other means of legitimate tax evasion.

Pass some meaningful tax law. Like flat income tax. EVERYBODY pays a % of their earnings as a federal tax. No write-offs, no loopholes. You make "X" dollars, you pay "%X" tax. Simple, everybody pulls their weight, nobody is exempt.

Yeah, I know there are deductions for house interest, sales tax, etc., but along with those priveleges the middle class get, they open up chasms for the rich to avoid paying their fair share. I'd be willing to sacrifice my home interest deduction to see these guys having to pay some tax for once. And it wouldn't have to be that big of a % of income if everyone had to cough it up. How would 10% look to you? Average income in US is, what? , 50,000? 10% of that is $5000. Sounds like a lot? Look at you withholdings on your checks and what you still owe at the end of the year. If everybody paid what they owe, a flat income tax, the government would have all kinds of money.

Duh, demo's controll 2/3's and repubs a 1/3, Nobama being a democrat, will have the 2/3's as long as he's feeding the dem's

So let's see...you're saying that Obama will always get 2/3 favorable rating as long as Congress is 2/3 Democrat. Right?

You do understand that this type of poll is taken amongst average people on the street, not by Congress. Right? Right?

Prove it. Provide a link to those results. You know...a link to a website, like this:

              or this:

Show me the results of one poll that shows Obama'a approval rating below 50%, and where the people who voted aren't limited to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly. Wait...that last link I posted was from...Fox News! So even a Fox News poll shows him at 60%! And another poll shows Obama's approval rating is up by 15% among...Republicans!

              http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2009/02/27/gallup-obama-approval-rating-way-up-among-republicans/

Face facts. All you people who come in here whining about Obama's performance on the job are doing just that: whining. Read the whole article. There are more stats there than just Obama's approval rating...and they all go against you. The Republican party's approval rating stands at about 30%. A Republican couldn't get elected dog catcher.

Oh wait! This is an NBC News poll! NBC News are libs! But what about the Wall Street Journal? You know, the Rupert Murdock owned Wall Street Journal...the same Rupert Murdock who owns...Fox News! So what, did NBC run out and do the poll without telling Rupert Murdock? Did Murdock then say it was OK to put "WSJ" on the poll results? How come he's not screaming bloody murder because they used WSJ without permission?

You guys are priceless. Maybe next time the Democrats can provide some cheese with that whine...

You know something really interesting about polls these days? The biggest thing they show is how many people are too poor to get caller id, or don't have a life and will talk to anyone. Using your own link, where people don't have to answer the phone and just push a yes/no button....

                  http://news.aol.com/main/obama-presidency/article/barack-obama-approval-rating-poll/353123

Out of 199,700 votes, 66% DISAPROVE of Obama's performance.

Out of 187,323 votes, 71% feel the stimulus package will HURT America. 11% feel it will make no difference, so only 14% actually believe it will do any good.

Sure, I would guess most of the people that went to that story were like "NO friggen WAY!" and that would skew the results some, but caller id would skew the "scientific" results ever bit as much.

Before that John Mcain tried to intervene and the same crowd of Dems over powered reason. Facts are facts so trying to place the blame on others just reveals the ignorant retards of the Democratic party.

I really think that some of you need to re-read the article. It states that the polls show a "sizable gap between the president's personal popularity and the popularity of his policies". It is the presidents policies that will control what happens within the country NOT his personal popularity.

I also don't put much stock in polls in general because the number of people polled, like with this one, are from less than one percent of the population.

We don't necessarily believe in all libertarian doctrines, but we do know that Bush,Clinton, and Obama are all a member of the same party, and since it's so early in the morning I'll refrain from calling that party the name that I'd actually like to use. Maybe by mid-day after morning coffee.

                      Best to all.

Hey libs......do you think no one is noticing that you keep collapsing those threads that you don't want to hear? In each one, there are valuable facts you need to know, but go ahead, keep those blinders on. Don't like what you hear? Vote it "no value".

communist hypocrites. "Everone should be treated equally, unless you don't agree with us, then you shouldn't be heard at all". I think newsvine should allow people to actually vote, up or down, on if a thread has "value".

But each time you collapse one, you show exactly the kind of person you are.

I never believe Polls. They usually show where they took it to begin with. I bet in New York City, Detroit, and other big citiies they would have high marks for President Obama. I can only speak for what I saw in Michigan that these Places like Detroit are looking for a hand out. So of course he would have high marks. But if you were to ask the true working class their backs are about to break and it is going to get worse if we do not get permanent Jobs. Middle class Tax payer is about busted. All I can see is spending it faster than we can make it or keep jobs here are foolish.

As was said by Tex745354 about Dodd and Barney Frank Democrats incharge for Fannie Mae and Freddy mac They the reason Banking is in the trouble they are in trouble. I can remember when it was getting out of hand in the end of 2003 and early 2004 Mr Franks Flipped the bird At the republicans that were trying to stop it from flying out of control. Saw that on Msnbc when it happened. It was a quick blurb on the TV as far as news but American have short Memories along with in a TV interview with former president of the federal reserve Mr. Greespan who openly admitted that he helped the Clinton Administration during those 8 years to help hide a recessionary period . So do not any of you think that with loosing of financial regulations under the Clinton Adminstration would have anything to do what is going on now.

By the way being conservative does not make you be a Republican but in the last 30 years I have worked I do seem to have more money in my pocket than I do when a democrat is in and no I am not wealthy make around 30k a year far from rich but have alway been financially responsible unlike most today

I find myself agreeing wiht dewintre and then wanting to toss myself into a wall at other times. Take that as a compliment, you see both sides and do not seem caught up in the drama.

Greg, even as a libertarian, I saw Bush as a positive over Gore in 2000, although i was disappointed that McCain lost then. Heck, he was even closer to us than Kerry in 2004, and he was a far cry from fiscal conservatism and smaller government even then. There was not a single player on the field this time around, whatever McCain had eight years ago was lost.

You know what though, on a personal level, I like President Obama a lot. I would give him high marks. I think the man is fundamentaly good and is looking out for what he feels are the right things. I will also argue that he has made some bad choices, but he is human and everyone makes bad choices. I also think he is over is head when it comes to policy and not all of the crazy policies are his ideas. Policy wise though i disagree with him on a lot of levels, just like quite a few conservatives and most libertarians.

You know what though, that is what makes this a great country, we can openly disagree wiht our leaders, demand proff of concept from the opposition, and if we do nto get it, we can lead opposition to demand their policies are never enacted. I just wish that the opposition was louder the last eight years, but oh well, live and learn.

Easy to understand. The income redistribution program has been turned up to "high" and those non-contributors to society have now become strong potential voters. I think I am supporting at least 3 families, and surely single parent households.

As for not being able to stand the fact that he is half black, sorry, I can't stand the fact that we have a non-American as the President of this great country of ours (well, some of ours!)

And if you think a socialist (although I'm beginning to think he's a flat out communist) is smarter than Americans . . . well, you're wrong. Which is why Europe and the Soviet Union are what they are, and we are what we are.

In under 4 years, Americans will have learned their lesson and will never revisit the horror or a President we have now.

Obama is a solid improvement over Bush and ~ ~ much to the chagrin of the radical and near-maniacal rightwingers ~ ~ he will succeed. Any improvement whatsoever will be viewed as tremendous progress by the majority of people and the large number who vote. As far as the dissenters are concerned ~ nothing rattles like empty wagons.

I was wondering who would be the first racist to post here. Congratulations, you've taken the prize. We're white, we don't like Obama's policies, so it must magically be about race, right? All of us whites are the same, we're all just after black people. We like the same music, only live in big houses, every one of us owns a major corporation that promotes slavery, we wear big bowties, hate r&b music, have white only schools (wait, only blacks in this country are allowed to have schools that ban others because of color), are hired based on our skin color (wait, only blacks and hispanics are required to be hired simply because of skin color and a quota), have college scholarships only allowed to our skin color (wait, that's blacks who have scholarships that whites are banned from receiving), have housing communities that ban other skin colors (wait, only black owned communities are allowed to ban others because of skin color, I was kicked out of an apartment complex in Houston when they changed the policy to make it blacks and hispanics only)...wait a minute, which one of us is the racist again, because it sure doesn't seem to be me?

Have you given it even half a second's thought that, maybe, some of us don't like him because we don't agree with his policies? You know, the policies that take even more from the job creators than Bush and HIS world record corporate tax rates that caused outsourcing, job loss, price inflation, and business failures. Sounds like you haven't. His policies will cost jobs, inflate prices, kill businesses, and create a debt that this country has never before seen, but none of that matters, if we hate Obama the only possible reason could be because he's black. Right, is that what you're saying to everyone here?
I don't care what color Obama is, he could be the whitest guy on the planet, he is several levels below even Bush and his ultra-liberal fiscal policies, taking the lead early in what could make him one of the worst Presidents this country has ever seen. He has zero chance of succeeding when his policies all revolve around taking more and more from the job creators who cannot afford to meet these ridiculous tax rates and fees. Any improvement he makes will be considered unbelievably huge progress simply because his policies have so little chance of doing anything but crushing the economy.

You feel free to call everyone who disagrees with you a racist. Group every white person into one category and lie to yourself that this isn't the very definition of racism. Tell yourself that you being the racist makes everyone else the racist, vote for everyone who runs for office who happens to be black, ignoring their actual policies. You keep being the huge racist that you are, and those of us who don't care about skin color will continue to focus on policy and vote for the best choice we have to bring actual improvement to this country.

Janet you are doing nothing to promote this president or the African American race. I don't care what color my president is but when he decides to raise taxes on a country and its people that are struggling to put food on their tables, and breaks the damn bank for my grandchildren who may have no retirment because of his gigantic spending bill then I don't agree with his policies. That has nothing to do with his race or IQ.

And get your biology straight. He is not African American. Oh, and not everyone who is black is African American. I suppose all humans should now refer to themselves by their geneology...oh I'm German American, I'm Polish American. I Scottish American. Will that afford me any special opportunities? The only person you can trust in this world is God and yourself. You build your future, the government threatens it.

American people want a great leader, but, not one that is going to cost every household thousands of dollars to pay back debts we did not ask for. I for one do not want my paycheck to be used to pay for welfare receipents. It's hard enought to make ends meet with my own household, much less having to take care of someone else's child that is in no way blood relative.

No, the problem with this dufus is he's arrogant and Communist. We still have a chorus of left wing whiners singing Rush Limbaugh wants Obama and America to fail. That's wrong too. He wants Obama to fail at turning America into another Communist third world country. I am right there with him. Uncle Obie, I hope you fail miserably. Why don't you just bugger off to one of the countries that are already as screwed up as your trying to make America? Don't let the Golden Gate bump you on the rump.

However, you state that Barack is smarter than some of the previous people posting their opinion. To the best of my knowledge Obama never released any of his college records so how do you know how smart he is? Are you basing it on where he went? As we all know that not everyone achieves the same academic ranking regardless of what university they attend.

And this helps build up our our unity?

Take a good long look at these postings Barry. This is the same crap that we read from liberals for the past 8 years!!!

And now you want unity and support from us "whiners"?

Why are we stupid, go ahead say it. You cannot stand the fact that he is African American and obviously smarter than you.

The only requirement is that he be smarter than his supporters, and he's got that down pat. You guys have no clue what the implications are for ANY of his economic policies. The man is playing a shell game with the money, running up the debt as bad as Bush, and not addressing any of the fundamental reasons our economy presently sucks. Wall street has figured this out it seems, with the market delving to new lows after every Obama news blurb.

And now you want unity and support from us "whiners"?

They want their cake and eat it too. Democrats are not fundamentally different from the GOP, they're just @ss-backwards on monetary issues. Just like neo-conservatives seem to be. Show me a party that wants to balance the budget AND lower taxes across the board by way of downsizing government, and I'll stop complaining.

So Janet,if everyone who disagrees with Obama is rascist, apparently the ONLY reason you dislike Bush is because he's a white guy. I'm no fan of either of the two parties right now but you can't fix debt problems with more borrowing.

Janet and b dune- Telling everybody that he works with/for a black man isn't condescending, he's liberally open about the race issue in America. We get lectured that we are in the stone ages when it comes to race here in America by the black Attorney General, yet, when someone tries to be open about it, he is chastised by those who are, well, racist.

Are you as adamant about blind people, or those who cannot speak? Or is your racism spent entirely on the color of someones skin? I bet not. You probably curse under your breath when a blind person needs attention that you otherwise would be getting. You laugh at, and make jokes of those who don't speak due to some birth affliction, yet, you pull the "color of skin and your picking on me" card at the drop of a hat. There is no room for your racial tones here in the new, progressive, non-racial America. If you want to spout the racial blah-blah-blah, go to Zimbabwe or South Africa, where it is tolerated. Otherwise, GROW UP!!!

Okay Janet - let's talk about race and how the republicans like to "keep the black man down". Ummmm, Bush was the first president to have a black Secretary of State, in fact he had two. He was the first to have a black run the dept of eduction. In fact, Bush had more blacks in his cabinet than Clinton, who was dubbed the first president for blacks.

It's all about spin. Just like this poll. You can spin anything to make it fit into your argument, all the white ignoring facts.

Who the hell believes polls anymore? They have always been skewed and always will be. I'd rather Obama have a 2% approval rating and do what is best for the country than a 70% approval rating and send us to the poor house.

This just has to be eating the neo-cons up. They are being abandoned by Republican moderates (20% have already changed to calling themselves independents so far this year). They have long since been abandoned by Independents. They have no popular base in place to match what the Democrats have. And business is swinging behind universal health care as they see what Canada's adoption of national health has done for Canadian business.

The landslide loss of the Republicans to the Democrats in the last election obviously left the Republicans wondering what happened. But even the neo-con attempts to repair the damage by electing Steele to RNC Chairman and Jindal as the "new face." Isn't setting well. Stele has been forced to kowtow to Rush and Jindal turned out to be an embarassment on his first outing. And even worse, the "solid south" sees Steele and Jindal as a racial betrayal.

The polls come out daily and while no one likes the situation we are in, Obama is getting high marks from the public and lots of political capital and breathing room despite a constant drumbeat of Republican negativity and "we want Obama to fail."

One only has to look at these posts, and especially the "we're not racists --- we just hate individual who don't look like us" posts to see how much this is eating them up. That talk about taking responsibility, but can't come to do it. They talk about people on welfare --- until it is them who loses their job. They talk about illegal immigration, but still use illegal labor. They talk about smaller government, but won't acknowledge that Reagan and Bush II grew the size of government more than all other presidents combined. They talk about the national debt but can't bring themselves to acknowledge that Reagan, Bush I and Bush II brought us more debt than all other American pre4sidents combined (including FDR and Obama.) They talk about individual freedoms, but brought us Gitmo and the Patriot Act. They talk about Democrats who had to pay back taxes, but never mention felons in their own party --- Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh, McCain, Rumsfeld. At lkeast Obama can travel freely to Canada --- none of those people can because of past felony convictions or outstanding arrest warrants.

But worst of all are the polls. They claim they must be broken or fraudulent because they say the American people are fed up with hate-spewing racist neo-cons. They say the whole world is wrong because it is fed up with wrong-headed American policies and are glad to see responsible change. In hact, everybody in the world is wronbg except their narrow, venomous anti-American views. And it is eating them up.

I'm sorry, but I can only feel pity for them. They take pride in calling themselves "dittoheads" but you know, it is a very appropriate term. They can't think for themselves, but just have to "ditto" someone else. They can't acknowledge what they really want to say, so they have to "ditto" someone who will. And everyone is turning their back on them.

Years ago I had an old drill sergeant tell me, "Son, when you look around and see that everyone else is out of step, you need to do an attitude correction. It is you who is out of step."

Ya know Dems you're right. I don't like African-Americans. I don't like the idea that anyone who is an American citizen, and in particular anyone born here is a HYPHENATED- AMERICAN. I don't like pressing1. And, I despise paying $338,300,000,000 per year for illegal aliens. Eliminate ALL their benefits and send the wet backs home.

If Obama is so open and honest why won't he produce his birth certificate and college records? Wheter you voted for him or not as an American citizen we have a RIGHT to know who this man is and where he was born. I wouldn't take any politicians word I want proof.

If Obama is the genius he is touted to be I'd like to to know in what. It's obviously not economics. His speech is deliberate but stilted there is nothing spontaneous about the man including his thought process. His choices for tax evaders in his cabinet is indicative of his previous choices in friends, associates and spiritual mentors. So where is the brilliance? He didn't even read the damn package I read he was a voracious reader. Day by day he tarnishes his media spin image.

I didn't vote for either major candidate in the past 3 elections I wrote in. So don't spout that neo-con clap trap. Bush is gone Clinton is gone Obama sits in the pilots seat now. And Now is what I care about. Now and the future of our children and grand-children. It's as bleak as Obama's policies.

One of those ad's that pop up now on my At&T Mailbox shows a picture of Brittany Spears and asks if you are smarter than her I.Q. of 105.... and then there is another one with Obama stating his I.Q. is 127.... Think there is any truth to that?

Plus I wonder if Obama received his degree in one of those "Special Programs" they have for Minority Students? If he does, I'd bet he'd be horribly embarrassed if that was true...

We had one of those "Special Program" minority graduates working for us once with a verified Bachelors Degree in Business Management from San Diego State University that worked in our Janitorial Department.

We had to fire him, and I am not kidding on this, we fired him because he basically abandoned his job....because.....are you ready for this....... He received one of those letters from Ed McMahon saying he won the contest, so he was staying at home waiting for Ed to show up with his check..... True story folks! No lie!

I also read Obama had a 127 IQ and Biden's is 143 and Bush and Palins are both 125. Gifted talented is 135 and Genius is 150. On any given day it can fluctuate 10 points either way or at least that was the bell curve in the 60's. That was before affirmative action and NOW. In 45 years they have lowered the bar .... How convenient.

Obama is not a genius, as we are finding out. His speech is rote, he has the personality of sand paper no spontaneity. If robots are ccharismatic to some, well there ya go.

During the election, didn't Obama in one of his debates say that he will not tolerate genocide?

Yet, Saddam used gas on his own people killing them. But you know, you're right. We're killing children. You think pulling out of Iraq is the most intelligent thing to do? I don't. How about this, we over throw a government, leave the country without support and let's see what happens.

I bet you all the money I have more children will die in the following struggle to gain power than we kill in the entire war.

The only people that I seen blowing up the innocent children, were the @!$%#s trying to blow me up. F U C K you C U N T. The so called reporters that were reporting from the "front" lines, were reporting poolside at their plush hotels. They did not have the balls to venture out of the Green Zone and get the true facts.

b dune, are you referring to the TARP I bill? You and a lot of others need to look at the fact that both the House and Senate were being lead by the Democrats and that is how TARP I was passed, just as TARP II has been recently passed and approved by Obama. Hmm, different President, but nothing changed. Understand?

We spent the tiniest percentage of our money compared to the wasted spending here at home going after the guilty in Iraq. Of course, your comment makes it sound as if we weren't in Iraq before Bush. I served there during the Clinton administration, losing three friends in Iraq during a time we supposedly weren't at war, but funny enough were doing the exact same things we were after Bush took office and finally declared war. The only difference, with the title of war we finally had the funding for proper equipment, instead of many of us dying because no war funding meant not enough for all rates to have proper protective equipment. And another thing you're ignoring, the surge troops are disappearing, bringing us back to levels close to what we had at the start of the war. A few thousand will be in non-cambat roles, but the vast majority of the fifty thousand Obama is keeping there will continue to do the same things they did under Bush, but like with Clinton, a lack of proper funding. If you think that fifty thousand troops will remain all in non-combat roles, then you're not living here in the real world.

Wow, don't you know all the trillions of dollars, you know part of the stimilus package, the one everyone else gets a piece of the pie, except you, me and all the other hard working people, it's because we are all too busy working to pay back the trillion dollar winner. Man, I feel lucky, like a great big jack pot winner. We all get to work hard for everyone else to spend our money.

Beckwolf you'r right on the 35-50.000 troops they leave behind in Iraq, and that so called for training and advice is a big farce,we trained them for the last five years and if the can't do it on their own now they never will.We need all our troops out of that sandbox now ASAP and not 16 or 19 month's from now, Afghanistan is another drain on our already sour economy and can drag on for another 20 years just like the Russians did and had to give up because it tanked their econmy, the same thing will happen to us,this is an war about religion and will never end,if we continue to send more troops we will be there for ever and the American people are paying for it forever We have to get all the troops home ASAP,and start working on our economy before this country caved in completely.

I love how the left cries President Bush left us after 8 yrs with w 10 BILLION Deficit.. Now their great messiah has left us after 30 days with a 1.75 TRILLION and climbing deficit.. Not to mention the 800 BILLION Stimulus and the 410 BILLION in earmarks and the 900 MILLION to HAMAS that he got or will try to get Nancy to agree to,.,

Barry Meyer- I would say to you, bringing all of these troops home now might not be the best thing for them... Say half of them get out of the service. 17-25000 unemployed added to what we currently have. And, as history is my witness, they will be the LAST to get work. The military people in this country are treated like sh_t when it comes to having the required "experience" for a job. Nothing they do while in the service counts for anything, they are looked down upon because they "fought" in this ugly war, they are shunned by employers.

Sure, we taxpaying moms and dads love our kids for being in the military. Unforunately, we don't hire them.

I submit to you that if these fine soldiers were to return to America with a real victory, the defeat of the terrorists, they would be treated a lot better. But, until the doves of this country are put aside and the real warriors are allowed to run the war, you are going to get prolonged, unsuccessful wars. These soldiers are still there because Congress isn't trying to end the war, they are prolonging it for the revenue they make because of it. Don't think Cheney is the only SOB who made a profit from this.

In other words, I disagree with you.

So, I read this article. Now I really feel good. The savior is going to save us. I pay my bills, mortgage, utilities etc. So, where is the incentive in this bill for doing the right thing for 40 years? You want me to feel good about bailing out those that didn't while watching my retirement savings disappear? Not going to do that. Thank you Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for getting this ball rolling. And let's not forget about Bubba Clinton. He put the pressure on Fannie Mae to finance those that didn't have a prayer to pay their bills.

When someone asked Biden what is in the stimulus for small business, Biden's reply was that we'll build a bridge so you can get to your small business.

                                    Yep! That was his answer!!???

How come it was alright to bash Bush all the time but let's leave Obama alone. He's walking on water. Shouldn't we all bow down and worship him. The one we waited for to save us. He isn't the savior and he doesn't walk on water. He's a human being who makes mistakes, and a lot of them, just like the rest of us. No president I have ever known has ever had the audacity of this man. He is so full of himself and pride goes before the fall. He will probably succeed in some things and fail and others. Just like all the presidents, so please don't put him up next to God.

Why didn't you tell everyone where this "supposed quote" came from?

                                    Your man Rush..

Why didn't you say who this quote was made by?

                                    Your Man Rush not Biden.

Rush plays this clip on his show 2/25/09

A Woman calls in CBS and asks BIden "How does the stimulus package help small businesses"

Biden responds: It may well be that the small business is in a circumstance where the customers are not able to get to the business, maybe there is no transit capability, "maybe the bridge across the creek needs to be repaired....

Rush then says: CAN I TRANSLATE THIS FOR YOU?

Rush says: "Well if you or your customers can't get to your small business we're going to build a bridge for you"!!

So NO THAT WAS NOT BIDENS ANSWER...THAT WAS RUSHS "TRANSLATING"

But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a good post

And never hesitate to take one of Rushs distorted truths and use it as gospel...

you can find these quotes on line.......didn't even have to make them up

I want your job, if you're not reviewed from day one. Here in the working world, if you screw up on day one, you're FIRED. Whining is crying that we should give him a chance, even though he's passing policy that will cripple the job market and hurt every financial class. Yes, he's hurting everyone, but let's just give him a chance, it's only been a few weeks with continued mistake after mistake and a major package that will hurt us all for years to come. Thirty days to do more damage than even Bush was able to accomplish in eight years. Are you being serious, you want to give that more chances after blowing every chance he's already had?

If we were all reviewed only after thirty days had passed instead of being responsible from day one, imagine all the damage businesses would face. Sorry, but it starts from day one, you can whine about us standing against his policies all that you want, but your complaining doesn't excuse his policies or the damage they cause.

What goes around I suppose. Are you advocating more affirmative action so Unle Obie can get the points to keep his job? What say we just run in someone who is already capable and has the intelligence to get it done. I nominate Thomas Sowell. He knows what's going on with the economy and could get us back on track and maintain the rights we are guaranteed by the Constitution.

How long could they stay in businnes if they had no customers? Sure maybe the bridge needs some repairs but you qoute Biden as saying that "maybe the customers can't get to the small business". A business with no customers cannot exist!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and here's mine. The Republican's fu$ked up the economy bad. Real bad. They left Obama with the biggest economic downturn in modern history. And no matter what policies he comes up with there will always be criticism. You just can't make everyone happy all the time and it's always healthy to have a debate. So you might agree or disagree about the recovery act, but it's really pointless to whine about it, since it's now the law. And remember, Pesident Obama did say he would make adjustments along the way depending on which policies were working and which weren't. So why don't we all take a chill pill and give the man some slack. Let's all meet back here in 3 months and then we can see where were at and if things are still headed in the wrong direction, I'll be the first to lead the charge and call Obama's plans a failure. And as for Rush, he can spout all the hate he wants. Because everytime he does, another independent crosses over to support Obama. Limbarker is the best recruiting tool the Democrats have. And by the way I own my own business and I'm not on welfare. But thank god the Dems created social safety nets for times just like these.

We will have to do something ourselves since the govt. has forgotten we exist. Too busy catering to everyone who thinks it is their "right" to have a handout.

Sorry Crazy, but he ain't going anywhere. Obama is here for AT LEAST the next 4 years. Get used to it. I know how hard it must be to abide a President that is smart and has a plan. Change is always hard to accept for conservatives, but thank god the country voted for change. And as far as a review after 30 days, how can you review a plan that hasn't had a chance to work or fail yet? And didn't you ever hear the old maxim that you have to spend money to make money?

He's really pulling the wool over the eyes of the indoctrinated masses. It's amazing that he's promised to spend more money in one month than the sum total of all reported property damage, adjusted for inflation, of every hurricane to make landfall in the United States of Amerikhastan since record-keeping began in 1908.

He has PROMISED to spend more money than the eight administrations preceding him.

And yet the sheeple cheer as if he's doing them a favor.

And he still hasn't certified his Constitutional eligibility to serve the office.

Peace, prosperity, and optimism. Considering this, it is fully understandable why conservatives have such a constipated look on their faces. These things are not permissible in their tilted little world.

I won't bore you with all the details but here is the last nine years of spending

                                          2008 - 2.9 Trillion

                                          2007 - 2.7 Trillion

                                          2006 - 2.6 Trillion

                                          2005 - 2.4 Trillion

                                          2004 - 2.3 Trillion

                                          2003 - 2.1 Trillion

                                          2002 - 2.0 Trillion

                                          2001 - 1.8 Trillion

                                          2000 - 1.8 Trillion

Total spending last 9 years 20.6 Trillion - we don't need to add up the previous 223 years - this should be suffice.....

From the time George W. Bush took office to the time he left office, national debt (the really IMPORTANT number) rose by about $4.5T. Now if spending WAS $20.6T, that means the government must have had revenues coming in of about $16T over those 8 years, correct?

                                          http://www.cedarcomm.com/~stevelm1/USDebt.png

Since Obama took office, the national debt has risen by just under $4T......in how many days? Think he is going to have that $16T revenues that Bush had in the current economy? So how is Obama going to offset this kind of spending?

He has almost spent, in just over a month, as much as George W. Bush did in 8 years (including TARP I). And yes, if the previous spending was Bush's fault (actually it's congress), then Obama IS spending this money.

Good for you and Obama has spent over 5 trillion in 6 weeks!! And had the nerve to preach to us about fiscal responability. The taxes are coming for everyone. His budget plan has huge tax increases on energy. That is a tax not just on the rich but everyone. Gas and electrical bills will become outragious. And by the way he keeps telling everyone he gave all Americans a tax cut. I don't think so he did not lower the tax rate. Which means they may take less out of your pay but you will also get less back in the end, that is if you get money back. And the money Bush spent was on 2 wars, katrina, and 9/11. And we are now a safer country do to Bushes efforts with national security. And no it did not come cheep. The Amercan tax payer is going to get screwed with Obama. Most of his money is going to his Social agenda, which we have to pay.

That's rediculous who in Gods name are they polling. Everytime Obama opens his mouth the economy tanks. They must be polling the ghetto. The man is a communist he now wants to trade with Cuba!!!! Florida senators are furious! It is written into the new bill about to be passed by the senate. He wants to cozy up to Castro and his brother! He also wants to deal with Russia. Obama's mother was an atheist and a communist. If you think this did not affect her son you are fooling yourself. In his book he described his mother as a sweet atheist with communist leanings. This man is attempting to turn our country into a communist state. If you think that sounds dramatic then read his book. Also read what other countries are saying about him. Australia wrote about him extensively in their papers. They did full expose about his marxist associations. As well as his friendships with known US terrorists. John McCain brought it up in his campaign but the press would not report on it. Look it up if you don't believe it.

The trouble I have with a lot of the math used is that it is fuzzy math. Do we count actual money spent? what about secondary sources? Do we include the guarantees that have been made and not yet spent. Pelosi said it doesn't count until it is spent and yet we have guaranteed trillions of toxic assets that we have not yet spent. Damn it gives me a headache.

If you look at the graph I linked above, you will see that the 4T of Obama's goes through 2012. That's because he signed it into law, so it becomes a "debt". Now the fuzzy part is that the debt is weighed against projected income (tax revenues), and this "guess" is currently using a best case scenario. I am guessing that by 2012, that number gets A LOT larger.

There is a revolution coming, and I don't think O or the rest of the government stands a chance. Tax the rich for over $250K? Then they lower productivity to $249k. Why work harder if you are only working for the government to give welfare? Then they lower it to $225k, people will go down to $224k. The government will not win because they cannot force productivity. Raise capital gains tax? Everyone pulls out of the market (like they are doing now).

A politician has no clue about business, but they are about to get a SEVERE and painful lesson. Unamerican? Depends on who you ask. I work my butt off and am gone away from home about 60-75% of the time. Why should I work so hard if that money is just going to go to someone that doesn't make that sacrifice? I'll just lower my workload. See, that's something else politicians (and libs) don't understand. When you make that kind of money, you become a great asset on the open market, and you pretty much decide when you work, and when you don't.

                                                1. Spending was 20.6 Trillion 9 years

                                                2. Less 1.8 Trillion (2000) = 18.8 Trillion

                                                3. 18.8 Trillion less 5 Trillion deficit Jan 2001 - Jan 2009 = 13.8 Trillion Spent in Bush Administration

                                                4. You stated Obama spent in over a month what Bush did entire administration....don't think that is accurate....

but he has spent alot of money - we'll have to see about the revenue and if some of this spending which is loans are repaid

No....I didn't. I said (check above) that O increased the National Debt.....that means spending minus projected tax revenues....in one month, almost as much as bush did in 8 years.

And when he finds that they will not be getting the revenues they project (see my other post above), that number is going to go higher.

you are right I am a lib and must admit a little slow......

I also went back and reread your post and can see "I didn't hear what you meant to say".....because you were talking debt...but I read what you posted and was tying it into the post from Beach44Z which irks my cookies because someone threw this "statement out about - since Washington" and most people just accept it.

And yes, I can't argue the increase in the Debt.....I wish I understood all of this economics more - let's be honest - I know we can break it down to simple - spend more then you take in....but really Rush, contrary to the descriptions given to the Treasury People, they have to have some kind of long term plan.

Now I will agree it certainly hasn't come to the forefront yet, but I do believe they see (or I hope they do) something more to this then us common lay people do....is that possible?

And there must have been something else the Bush team saw as well....I'm sure they just didn't go in with the idea of dropping 5 Trillion...

anyways, good spar....we all want the same end result....how to get there

My apologies on that (and the dunebuggy). I went strictly off your spending post and didn't even read theirs. Yes, they were wrong. Completely wrong. However, the "intent", though highly exaggerated (something I do not approve of), was that he is spending WAY more than his predecessors.

I rarely look at the one liners or ones without real content. So pat yourself on the back for that. ;)

But they do not have a long-term game plan and that is the problem. No one has really run up against anything like this before. They are shooting in the dark trying whatever plan sounds sexy(imho) or politically expedient. One of the things that is throwing the Stock market off is that they do not know which way to turn. The rules of the game change almost daily and we have no concrete plan here. This lack of a plan did start with the prior administration and has carried over into the current one. All they know is that they need to toss money around and hope that some of it sticks and works. The only real excuse is that most of this is unprecedented- how do you plan for it. AN analogy would be Katirna- how do you plan for it? At least with this crisis people are reacting- they may not have a game plan and you can attribute all kinds of motives any way you want but to give them credit-reluctantly- they are trying. My fear is that all this trying without a solid plan will do more damage than help. I have always thought you pick one or two things and focus on that, devote your energy on that and build on success. We are doing the shotgun approach hoping to hit something and score. God help us if it doesn't work because we all will be screwed.

It can only last until the citizens discover they can vote themselves largesse out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that the Democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, to be followed by a dictatorship, and then a monarchy."

To Rush and Dune.. Not disputing any of the facts / figures, etc. but I would like to add that one thing people never mention in the whole National Debt topic is what a true mosnter the interest on the debt is. Everyone always wants to take the easy way out and blame whichever party was in control for the recent past.

Every 8 year two term President increases the National Debt by about 1/3 even if there is a zero budget deficit. It's a mess that's been a long time coming, with both parties to blame. The person in the White House has so much less control over this then the Congress but people need a figurehead to blame although more and more people are calling for them all to go. Sadly, even more dangerous and totally overlooked, is the non-elected bureaucrat, the one who never pushes for anything outside their own self interest and clogs the arteries of government with useless levels of red tape and more self perpetuating bureaucracy. Those are the ones who really need to go, yet the current party in power wants to create even more of them.

There have been people warning us about deficit spending and predicting the current situation since the 1960s; In 1992 regardless of all the spending Bush did the figures H. Ross Perot used to warn us weren't that far off from what we have today. ANYONE old enough to vote in 1992 should remember that, because he got more attention then any third party candidate in history. Those that ignored a valid candidate because he was outside the two mainstream parties does not deserve the right to vote. Not liking someones ideology is a totally different thing then totally ignoring them. A full year before this all came to a head Ron Paul tried desperately to tell us that yes, Virginia, we are in a recession, headed for depression, and was ridiculed. He'd been trying to tell us this since 1978 but until 2007 very few people had ever even heard of him. People like Rush and Dunes above seem to be willing to think about more then just Bush / Obama even though I get the feeling they're from opposite parties maybe because of other issues, but how many people do we see here day after day, chanting endlessly about how much they hate Bush or Obama and never mentioning the broader picture, and it's time they wake up before it's too late.

Actually, having said that, it is too late. The time to restructure our Government before our Government restructures us is past. We've been being restructured for the last 8 years and are going to be in different ways for the next two and the only thing we can do now is fight back and try to set it right. Right now, before 2010, we need to start convincing people we know personally and respect to stand up for themselves and for us and run for an office in 2010 and 2012. It does not matter at all what your politics are, what matters is fresh faces who share YOUR values, the tiny percentage who rule this country are still far outnumbered by the common person and if we get off our collective butts we can do something about it. It doesn't matter if the office is local State or Federal, if it's an elected office it needs someone who can be trusted to put the good of the people ahead of their own needs.

Your enemies are twofold, the ignorant, who you must also deal with and convince, if at all possible not to vote at all. This is much easier then trying to convert them to your values if they disagree. And it would cheapen your candidate if they were only voting for them because they liked his or her hair, or the way they talk on TV. The biggest other enemy is large lobby groups, the ones who control the usual faces you see re-elected decade after decade, and the bureaucracy itself, both of which see any attack from the outside as an assault on their way of life. Mainly because it is. There's some tough times and hard work ahead of us, and we're at the end of the game, it's time to put up or shut up, to be destroyed or be saved as a nation.

I find it deeply disturbing that "There is a large disparity between the percentage of people who approve of Obama and who approve of his policies." Regardless of the candidate, why on earth would anyone vote for them if they did not agree with their policies? Let us presuppose for a minute that Obama and Bush are brothers, the kinds of twins that never fight with each other would give their life for each other, but hold the same political views they do outside this hypothesis. Does anyone think for one second they would vote for one another even though they were the closest of family? Would you vote for your own mother if they were a diehard Dem/Rep (pick your opposing party)? To me the one thing this article screams loudly is that a large percentage of the American public think (and vote!) too hard with their hearts and not enough with their brains for there to be any hope for this country.

I keep asking myself that but it provides such entertainment! Where else can you get the real insight into what the "American people" are really thinking . . . Most of the time I feel pretty good about what I am thinking and that there are soooo many others out there who feel the same way. It's listening to those who call into the conservative talk shows and blast way but hey - they are listening to! I soo don't believe this poll as I to have not spoken with anyone who agrees and I have many "crazy" friends.

We are open minded people. You have your own party members stating the liberals are close minded and if you disagree with the left you are burned at the cross (pardon the pun) by their own. Unlike us who can agree and agree to disagree with you or our own. Only GOD (not obama) and time will tell.

I think most people go to websites they can find people to argue with. Agreeing with each other and patting each other on the back seems to be as boring as good news.

I come here to try and convince others to agree with me, or at the very least see reality for what it is, be they red, blue, or plain old you. There is a difference. Sometimes the line gets a little fuzzy though when I'm overloaded by the sheer hatred so many seem to have for each other.

                                                    Betcha someone argues with this....

And every once in awhile a story is so silly it's fun to come see what others are saying.

It's also fun to see how far away from politics a story has to be before someone brings Bush or Obama into it. Although I haven't found one yet.

Was this poll taken in Harlem?

Polls can be whatever you want them to be. Just pick your area and call, heavily democrat great polls, heavey republlican not so great. What bothers most of us is the dishonesty and manipulation they pull on the public. Since they have the say so because they are a news media, we can't do much more than just to write here and tell you that there are a lot of folks who do not agree.

DaneLover, get over it! President Obama is half African, most Americans voted for him, he is our president, he is an intellectual, he is articulate, he knows how to communicate effectively, he knows how to put a productive team together, he knows how to negotiate, he knows constitutional law, he is versed in economics, he is smart and he is handsome. O yes, he knows how to pronounce nuclear. I'm so sorry that he doesn't fit your sterotype. Hardly anyone does. Get over it!

                                                        Hi all,

I have been unable to find support for the statement that Harlem contains more Democrats than anywhere else in the country. If you find some facts, please post them.

However, if Dane was looking for demographics about Democrats, he could have truthfully have said "where was the poll taken? Colleges?" I state this based on the results from the Gallup poll that compares education level to political party affiliation (please google "gallup poll april 10 2008 education" because I cannot post links, they always disappear. It is the first result). In this poll, they state that:

"Obama makes up for his poorer performance among voters with the least formal education by doing well against McCain among college graduates -- particularly those with postgraduate education (who tend to vote Democratic) but also on a relative basis among those with a four-year college degree only, a reliable Republican group"

                                                        DaneLover......

Regarding your response to my post - and I quote,

"Your have defined your truncated pathetic ignorance as a liberal"

That was a weak response, you called me names and you did not answer the question "Why Harlem?"

Then you said - and I quote,

"Your idiotic interpretation to my reference to Harlem boils the inner hatred of yourself as to anyone having a different opinion then you" end quote.

ah yeah, That was the most nonsensical conglomeration of psycho babble that I have ever heard, and you still did not answer the question. Why Harlem?"

Your finale sentence - and I quote,

"would you suggest my head be guillotined?"

OK DaneLover, that was your strangest sentence; are you on medication? "suggest my head be guillotined? what the hell are you talking about? That is your most bizarre nonsequiter; yet and you still did not answer the question, "Why Harlem?"

Let me refresh your memory, you said - and I quote,

"was this poll taken in Harlem?" and "the whole article is a pathetic bless Obamy diatribe" end quote.

Now DaneLover, you know and I know and everyone knows that Harlem is not populated by the Amish people. It is mostly populated by African Americans and President Ombama is our African American President, whom you mockingly refered to as "Ombamy" I'm guessing you put it that way because it rhymes with mammy. Very clever DaneLover.

I hope your starting to understand why I perceived you as a "Racist Piece of Scum" I hope your feeble mind will figure out that my assessment of your racist scumbaggy persona was in actuality correct and not idiotic after all.

Of course I could be wrong about you and you might even be a decent, compassionate and tolerant person with a good heart and charity for your fellow human-beings. If I have misjudged the intent of your words, then please educate me; answer the question "Why Harlem?" I will listen carefully and with an open mind, a concept that may be foreign to you.

Please DaneLover, if you decide to respond stay on subject. Don't go off on wild tangents and irrational nonsequiters, it's embarrassing and it makes you sound like a self important bag of hot air.

Reference to Harlem.....was due to the on street survey taken there, before Obama was elected. When People on the street were asked questions about Obama's Policies using McCain's Programs they all agreeded. Showing that they knew nothing about who's policies were who's and they were voting for Obama just because he was black.. Now you have your answer.. Or go to HOW OBAMA GOT ELECTED.

                                                        To stormerF,

I think you're responding to my question for DaneLover - "why Harlem?"

The Harlem street survey that you say answers my question as to why DaneLover referenced Harlem in his or her posting has nothing to do with DaneLovers response to Obamas popularity in the recent polls.

The Harlem street survey that you site happened many months ago during the presidential election campaign of 2008, long before this current poll of 2009 that DaneLover posted his or her comments on; in-fact, I heard that so called survey on the radio myself as I'm sure you did, it was not a legitimate scientific survey by a professional organization. It was a comedy routine done in an off handed way randomly on the street, and it was conducted by two comedians from the Howard Stern radio show Sal Gavernalli and Richard Cristy.

What you are trying to palm off as the answer to my question for DaneLover is not the correct answer it is a phony and deceptive answer. The only person that can answer the question as to the intent behind the words he or she used is DaneLover. As far as I can tell DaneLovers words show that he or she is a piece of racist scum. If I am incorrect then DaneLover should be clever enough to answer for him or herself to correct my assessment, not you stormerF. But thanks for trying any way.

The business section is conservative, the news section is not.

I can't believe alot of what I've been reading, mainly the bs about race. How in the world can people still be throwing the race card around and at the same time wish to be taken seriously? Anyone throwing that card around still simply looks like moron.

That is a weak arguement considering and Afro-American is now the President of the United States. Let it go already ... you ande the leftist mainstream mededia got their man.

I only hope this country is even recognizable when we get a competent President back in office. Hopefully by then America will have woken and realized the mistake they made by giving the liberals total control of our country. Idiots.

John, how about you read up on the great depression. Giving people jobs does work. fixing infrastructure does work. So do tax cuts but this needs to be combined to fix the economy. That is why 40% of the stimulus bill is tax cuts.

I have heard and read many times that the Republicans didn't have any ideas during the debate over the stimulus. This is absolutely wrong. I guess you think if you say this enough people will believe it.

Actually there were many plans offered in the house and senate. However they were ignored by the partisan leaders of the democratic party because they wanted it their way without input from the Republicans.

The easiest way to get money into peoples hands was to immediately suspend income taxes, which was one of the suggestions. This of course would only help those that still held jobs, so those drawing unemployment could also have been given an increase at the same time.

This could easily have started to funnel additional money into the economy by now.

For some reason it was decided to do the cut in income taxes, however the decrease will only be $13 per person and they won't start until June. Why? This could be turned on within two weeks, why wait.

There were also many ideas on generating economic stimulus that were ignored. They were ignored because the bill was being too rushed. It was not being rushed to help the American people it was being rushed to hide spending that if discussed fully would be under so much scrutiny that it would need to be eliminated from the bill.

If this bill was being rushed to help the American people then some of the items in it would have started immediately not wait until June. Also the vote for the bill took place on a Friday, after it was finished being written on Thursday night, not allowing all to read the bill prior to voting. If this needed to be done to help the American people so quickly, I would expect the President to sign the bill that night, not the following Tuesday. Why did he wait so long? The bill could have been read by all on Friday, Sat., Sun., vote on Monday.

The only reason I can see is the bill was a scam, they knew it and didn't want all the detail to come out before it was approved.

Republicans are out of touch??? Smells to me like the lberal democrats are out of touch with not only the people, but reality. Especially, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Franks, and don't forget Obama. They are going to get a big wake up call when the people finally get fed up and start using all those guns they have been buying. We do not want a Socialist/Communist country and will fight to make sure it doesn't become one.

Angie, do you know that Rush does not care if you like him or not. People listen to him. He has a lot to say that resonates with the working class of America. Sometimes he says things that people misinterpret, but you have to understand that 's just his way. Rush will stand up against those who try to distroy this country, those left wingers who want us to be sociallist or even communist. He will stand by the constitution. Even though you don't like him, listen to him and don't hate him because you think that is the popular thing to do and because he is willing to stand against Obama when he feels Obama is wrong about something. He did the same with George Bush when he didn't like what he did. The Clintons. There are two deeply devided philosophies in this country. There is a culture war going on between the two that will eventually change our nation back to what the founding forefathers wanted or to what the left wants it to be a socialistic government that tries to make all people on a financial basis the same. It doesn't work. it never has and it never will. Until you listen and pay attention, don't hate someone for the sake of hating them.

They have a excuse, they are multi national, hence no single loyalty. What's yours???Why aren't repubs calling them on the carpet for it??We have so much oil we are running out of storage. And still gas prices go up.

Only the sick lame and lazy are crying about not getting a fair shot. I have guys (cops) I work with that are struggling....because they spent money on homes, cars and boats they did not have. That is not my problem.....I don't fell poor and I have two kids in college, and a mortgage, and a toys I purchased responsibly. I worked hard and risked my life for the poor and wealthy alike. They need to get down on the streets and see what is really going on before they give away our money.

Yet, they ride in cars and planes that use gas. That's the problem laws that prohibit a lot of things. I do believe in our being good caretakers of our land. But I do not agree in the extreme that would take away jobs from people. If oil had never been discovered, we would not have many of the things that make our life better today. We will probably never be totally without its use.

I was in poverty in 2001 but after learning how to manage my finances and not spend more than I make, I am now in much better shape than I was then.

And yes, before you start , I have been laid of, fired by myself once, retired, gone back to work and am again waiting to go back to work part time. But I don't have to worry about losing my house because we bought one we could afford in retirement and everything else we own is paid for. Paid for by saving until we could afford it and then paid cash for. And no, it wasn't with huge paychecks either. Unless you call making 20 to 30 thousand a year (with both of us working) huge paychecks.

Bush knew the mess he was leaving. He didn't care, he knew his terms was up. that's just the mean, evil ways of those Republicans, we will get ours and let the country get theirs. We are not that impatience , nor are we not aware of the job that our President has to do. I'm sure the people that voted for him understands the task President Obama has. At least, he's doing something, the Republicans can complaint, but I have not heard not one of them come up with any solutions. We will back our President.

I will back the man when he comes to his senses and stops all the crazy nonsense he is putting out to punish the good American people who work hard. One should not compromise their beliefs when they are not in the best interest of our country. Look, if he was the man that could do the job properly, I don't for one second believe that he would have put us so in debt that even our great grandchildren will never get it paid off. He moves way too fast. When I was teaching my children and grandchildren how to make a decision, I told them now put down on one side the advantages and on the other side the disadvantages. Then make your decision in what to do. If too many things are wrong with the idea, trash it. If there are more good points then go ahead, if neither seems feasible, then start over with a new idea. Obama does not do that, he jumps in feet first and does no thinking outside the dummies he put in office with him.

He does not write of vote on any law or spending bill. It seems to me that a majority of Democrats are more concerned about what conservitive talk show hosts say than what is happening to our country.

Where exactly was your outrage when 26 TONS of US currency disappeared in Iraq? Where was your vitriol when Cheney held secret meetings with energy companies to hammer out legislation that would benefit the only richest companies while screwing the middle class? Where was your voice when Halliburton moved off shore to avoid paying taxes from war profiteering? Is your only answer....tax cuts? WTF did you think was going to pay for Bush's war in Iraq? There haven't been any TRUE Republican principles in Washington since Newt Gingrich's "contract with America". Cool your jets, dude....Let's see what happens in the next few years.

Guys like Rush Limbaugh who has expressed his wish for Obama to "fail", hence America to fail, and Shaun Hannity who has called for a "revolution" by conservatives, have struck a sour-chord with mainstream America. The GOP has made a mistake by not denouncing these blow-hards.

It's not the conservatives or the liberals that shape this country, it's the moderates. Whereas 75% of Americans believe that Obama has sincerly reached out to the Republicans, only 25% believe that the Republicans have reached back.

                                                                        And this poll reflects that.

It's important that we have at least 2 parties. It's important that the GOP moves back towards the middle. Bash President Obama if you like, but you're not in the majority.

Democrats have kept people poor in the way that the fireman who starts fires to put them out and be the hero works. But the difference is that we've spent trillions (of taxpayer money) and poverty hasn't budged an inch. The fire on the other hand eventually gets put out. You liberals are all talk and it shows.

This is exactly why the Republicans are in the gutter now, they have a hard time with the truth and like to rewrite history, especially the last eight years of it. President Obama has signed a bill to ensure equal pay for women, a bill to ensure that more children have medical care, prevented the collaspe of GM and Chrysler, and passed a stimulus plan to help get us through the economic tsunami that Republican leadership has saddled us with. What have Republicans done except be divisive and obstructive?

President Obama has signed a bill to ensure equal pay for women, a bill to ensure that more children have medical care, prevented the collapse of GM and Chrysler, and passed a stimulus plan to help get us through the economic tsunami that Republican leadership has saddled us with.

                                                                        1. He didn't sign a bill that ensured equal pay for women. He signed a bill that changed the statute of limitations for claiming discrimination in pay for all workers.

                                                                        2. He signed a bill to give more children health care by charging more tax on tobacco. Which will cause more people to quit, which might be good but who's going to make up those lost dollars.

                                                                        3. He didn't prevent the collapse of GM and Ford. It appears that all he did, and I'm not sure but I think that they were given their money before he was inaugurated, was to give them a little more time to self destruct.

                                                                        4. As for the so-called stimulus bill. Have you ever noticed that every time he went to defend it, he mentioned 270 billion dollars for tax cuts (credits) and 300 billion for infrastructure repair. Where did the other 200 billion dollars go? Read the bill, find out all the little (?) pet projects included in it that won't do anything except pay off election debts and keep various constituents (Acorn, Unions and San Francisco mice) happy.

Look at the 400 billion dollar spending bill just passed by congress and planned on being signed by Mr. Obama. After campaigning on transparency and the elimination of earmarks, this bill slides through with over 8,000 earmarks, most of which are either sponsored or supported by Mr. Obama and his administration. Of course, he now says that the issue of earmarks are being looked at and guidelines will be forth coming.

He's gone back or skirted most every promise he made all through the campaign but that's normal for a politician. While I didn't vote for him, I hope and pray that what he has done will work out to the county's benefit but I don't have much faith in it.

People need to learn that it is not a democrat or republican problem but an American problem and they need to get over their chauvinism and start by listening to both sides of the story, liberal and conservative, before they start calling names and blasting people.

                                                                        Good day.
