CAIRO — Rival Palestinian groups Hamas and Fatah have resumed reconciliation talks aimed at producing a power-sharing government.
The previous round of talks broke down last month, threatening deeper Arab divisions and setting back efforts for a durable Israel-Hamas peace.
The key sticking point is the new government's program and to what extent Hamas would abide by past accords with Israel.
The official MENA news agency says Egypt's intelligence chief Omar Suleiman is leading the talks Wednesday in Cairo. Fatah's delegation is led by Ahmed Qurei and Nabil Shaath. The top Hamas negotiator is the militant group's deputy leader Moussa Abu Marzouk.
Hamas seized the Gaza Strip in a bloody 2007 power struggle, leaving Fatah in control of the West Bank.
