Obama orders pizza from St. Louis, Chicago miffed

advertisement

CHICAGO — The news is hitting Chicago deep dish pizza makers' eye like a big pizza pie.

President Barack Obama is having 140 people over to the White House Friday night for a some deep-dish pizza — St. Louis deep dish pizza.

It seems during his campaign he had pizza from a restaurant called Pi in St. Louis. That's the story Pi assistant manager Lindsey Tornetto tells.

Whatever happened, the restaurant says the owner and his partner packed dough, cheese and pizza pans in their suitcases and flew to Washington.

It all has Marc Malnati — owner of 30 Lou Malnati's Pizzarias in the Chicago area — shaking his head. He says he likes Obama's economic policy, but thinks the president's pizza policy should change.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Sly, the articles I've read INFER that the chef/owner of the restaurant will be footing his own bill. Nothing actually says for sure though.\

Makes sense, this is HUGE publicity for him and his restaurant.

"A pizza so good, the PRESIDENT asked us to fly to DC to make it for him."

You can't get better marketing than that if you tried.

The added sales alone are worth the expense.

The experience alone is worth the expense...

The money made afterward.... priceless... well, almost! I'm sure this dude will be making a lot of money for a long time! If he'd mail one on dry ice, I'd order one to try it!!!

Unless I'm mistaken then it does seem to me the answer is in the news report....

Whatever happened, the restaurant says the owner and his partner packed dough, cheese and pizza pans in their suitcases and flew to Washington

So unless you mean the 'transportation costs', and also did he/they actually shell out for the dough, chees and pizza pans etc, and as they took the items needed with them according to this report to make them.

As has been said.. it's great publicity too. All round.. shows that he (Obama) is a normal guy... likes pizza etc and the pizza place too gets great publicity from it as well. So they probably 'waived' the bill, aka a 'loss-leader', and then picked up a huge amount of orders on the back of this

I wonder. Did they actually claimed for a meal allowance as well? You tell me, as we never heard of this little snippet of news here in the UK so I'd be interested to know what the outcome was.

Not exactly Earth shattering news now... but it's amusing to say the least.

Pizza to go is a slight understatement. Also a doggy bag with a difference too... lol

Ah, brings back the old debate of who makes a better pizza Chicago or New York? I'd be willing to try this guys pizza if he shipped. Maybe we'll add another name to the contest soon.

On a side note: when I was in Chicago for a family function, we had pizza brought in and I wasn't that impressed. It had lots of sauce and very little cheese. New York pizza is tops in my book.

OH WHAT? Michele can't cook? This is an amusing story though; I wonder what those pizza guys told the airport security about the 'unique' items in their luggage. I couldn't keep a straight face if that were me: "Uh, yeah, we're flying to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to make pizza for President Obama".

I saw that Pizza Hut and Domino's are having specials. Maybe someone can give them a local number and I'm sure the delivery driver would make sure it got there in 30 minutes or less...

In prosperous times this would not look so bad. When you have loads of people unemployed this appears a bit too extravagant. But after all it is for the Messiah. I cant figure out why he just didn't perform a miracle there at the White House and turn the bread into pizza.
