LOS ANGELES — Witness testimony has ended in Los Angeles about whether Televisa or Univision can transmit Televisa's popular telenovelas online and via satellite in the United States.
U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez said Friday that attorneys for Grupo Televisa and Univision Communications can present their arguments in July.
At issue is a 1992 partnership contract and amendments made in 1996 and 2001.
Univision says the contract does not give the Mexican conglomerate rights to stream programs online or transmit programs by satellite from Mexico to the U.S. Televisa argues it does have the rights and intends to launch an Internet video channel this summer in Latin America.
Dozens of executives testified over the last four days, including Televisa's president and majority stockholder, Emilio Azcarraga Jean.
