NEW YORK — Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Wednesday it recieved Food and Drug Administration approval for a generic version of Duramed Pharmaceuticals' Plan B emergency contraceptive.
The generic version is approved for prescription use only.
Duramed has exclusive rights from Barr Pharmaceuticals to sell an over-the-counter version of the emergency contraceptive, but those rights expire Aug. 24.
Watson will market its prescription product under the name Next Choice.
Shares of Corona, Calif.-based Watson rose 4 cents to close at $32.02.
