LOS ANGELES — Michael Jackson, defined in equal parts as the world's greatest entertainer and perhaps its most enigmatic figure, was about to attempt one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Then his life was cut shockingly — and so far, mysteriously — short.

The 50-year-old musical superstar died Thursday, just as he was preparing for what would be a series of 50 concerts starting July 13 at London's famed 02 arena. Jackson had been spending hours and hours toiling with a team of dancers for a performance he and his fans hoped would restore his tarnished legacy to its proper place in pop.

An autopsy was planned for Friday, though results were not likely to be final until toxicology tests could be completed, a process that could take several days and maybe weeks. However, if a cause can be determined by the autopsy, the results will be announced, said Los Angeles County Coroner Investigator Jerry McKibben.

Police said they were investigating, standard procedure in high-profile cases.

Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center after being stricken at his rented home in the posh Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him at his home for nearly three-quarters of an hour, then rushed him to the hospital, where doctors continued to work on him.

"It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home. However, the cause of his death is unknown until results of the autopsy are known," his brother Jermaine said.

Cardiac arrest is an abnormal heart rhythm that stops the heart from pumping blood to the body. It can occur after a heart attack or be caused by other heart problems.

Jackson's death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

His 1982 album, "Thriller" — which included the blockbuster hits "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" — is the best-selling album of all time, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.

Yet after selling more than 61 million albums in the U.S. and having a decade-long attraction open at Disney theme parks, Jackson died reportedly awash in about $400 million in debt, on the cusp of a final comeback after well over a decade of scandal.

Stephen Hill, an executive producer for the BET Awards, said Sunday's show would be dedicated to Jackson because of his influence on music and pop culture.

"I think what you're going to find is that acceptance speeches for awards will have nothing to do about the artists themselves, but about the influence that Michael Jackson had on them," Hill said in a phone interview.

As word of his death spread, MTV switched its programming to play videos from Jackson's heyday. Radio stations began playing marathons of his hits. Hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital. In New York's Times Square, a low groan went up in the crowd when a screen flashed that Jackson had died, and people began relaying the news to friends by cell phone.

"No joke. King of Pop is no more. Wow," Michael Harris, 36, of New York City, read from a text message a friend had sent him. "It's like when Kennedy was assassinated. I will always remember being in Times Square when Michael Jackson died."

The public first knew him as a boy in the late 1960s, when he was the precocious, spinning lead singer of the Jackson 5, the singing group he formed with his four older brothers out of Gary, Ind. Among their No. 1 hits were "I Want You Back," "ABC" and "I'll Be There."

He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation, known for his backward-gliding moonwalk, his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves and his high-pitched singing, punctuated with squeals and titters. His single sequined glove, tight, military-style jacket and aviator sunglasses were trademarks, as was his ever-changing, surgically altered appearance.

"For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words," said Quincy Jones, who produced "Thriller." "He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Jackson ranked alongside Elvis Presley and the Beatles as the biggest pop sensations of all time. He united two of music's biggest names when he was briefly married to Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie. Jackson's sudden death immediately evoked comparisons to that of Presley himself, who died at age 42 in 1977.

"I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible," Lisa Marie Presley said in a statement. "I am heartbroken for his children who I know were everything to him and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me."

As years went by, Jackson became an increasingly freakish figure — a middle-aged man-child weirdly out of touch with grown-up life. His skin became lighter, his nose narrower, and he spoke in a breathy, girlish voice. He often wore a germ mask while traveling, kept a pet chimpanzee named Bubbles as one of his closest companions and surrounded himself with children at his Neverland ranch, a storybook playland filled with toys, rides and animals. The tabloids dubbed him "Wacko Jacko."

"It seemed to me that his internal essence was at war with the norms of the world. It's as if he was trying to defy gravity," said Michael Levine, a Hollywood publicist who represented Jackson in the early 1990s. He called Jackson a "disciple of P.T. Barnum" and said the star appeared fragile at the time but was "much more cunning and shrewd about the industry than anyone knew."

Jackson caused a furor in 2002 when he playfully dangled his infant son, Prince Michael II, over a hotel balcony in Berlin while a throng of fans watched from below.

In 2005, he was cleared of charges that he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at Neverland in 2003. He had been accused of plying the boy with alcohol and groping him, and of engaging in strange and inappropriate behavior with other children.

The case followed years of rumors about Jackson and young boys. In a TV documentary, he acknowledged sharing his bed with children, a practice he described as sweet and not at all sexual.

Despite the acquittal, the lurid allegations that came out in court took a fearsome toll on his career and image, and he fell into serious financial trouble.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born Aug. 29, 1958, in Gary. He was 4 years old when he began singing with his brothers — Marlon, Jermaine, Jackie and Tito — in the Jackson 5. After his early success with bubblegum soul, he struck out on his own, generating innovative, explosive, unstoppable music.

The album "Thriller" alone mixed the dark, serpentine bass and drums and synthesizer approach of "Billie Jean," the grinding Eddie Van Halen guitar solo on "Beat It" and the hiccups and falsettos on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'."

The peak may have come in 1983, when Motown celebrated its 25th anniversary with an all-star televised concert and Jackson moonwalked off with the show, joining his brothers for a medley of old hits and then leaving them behind with a pointing, crouching, high-kicking, splay-footed, crotch-grabbing run through "Billie Jean."

The audience stood and roared. Jackson raised his fist.

During production of a 1984 Pepsi commercial, Jackson's scalp sustained burns when an explosion set his hair on fire.

He had strong follow-up albums with 1987's "Bad" and 1991's "Dangerous," but his career began to collapse in 1993 after he was accused of molesting a boy who often stayed at his home. The singer denied any wrongdoing, reached a settlement with the boy's family, reported to be $20 million, and criminal charges were never filed.

Jackson expressed anger over the allegations on the 1995 album, "HIStory," which sold more than 2.4 million copies, but by then, the popularity of Jackson's music was clearly waning even as public fascination with his increasingly erratic behavior was growing.

Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley in 1994, and they divorced in 1996. Later that year, Jackson married Deborah Rowe, a former nurse for his dermatologist. They had two children together: Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., known as Prince Michael, now 12; and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11. Rowe filed for divorce in 1999.

Jackson also had a third child, Prince Michael II, now 7. Jackson said the boy, nicknamed Blanket as a baby, was his biological child born from a surrogate mother.

Billboard magazine editorial director Bill Werde said Jackson's star power was unmatched. "The world just lost the biggest pop star in history, no matter how you cut it," Werde said. "He's literally the king of pop."

Jackson's 13 No. 1 one hits on the Billboard charts put him behind only Presley, the Beatles and Mariah Carey, Werde said.

"He was on the eve of potentially redeeming his career a little bit," he said. "People might have started to think of him again in a different light."

Michael was all about stage presence; I have an eerie feeling he may have planned his own death. He was, after all, about showmanship, to the very end.

This man took more secrets to his grave than any mega-celebrity in the last 50 years, I think.

The music world will indeed miss him.

What killed him? Heart attack while having sex w/minors?

Whatever. Feel free to bring up the allegations, but they didn't appear to have anything to do with his death:

but seriously he was a horrible person who raped children

Funny how he was never convicted of a crime, and the crimes he was accused of didn't even include rape.

Well, MJ practically invented the (aberrant) genre of dance I've trained in, so I suppose your amateur psychanalysis has some validity, regardless of your thinly veiled attempt at an "OMFG, you're a child rapist" ad hominem.

Ah CJ, I think Michael Jackson did do just exactly that, did he not?

Yep, yet you're whining incessantly about just that issue. I guess Frodo's pronouncements > US law, eh?

He is the greatest. No only was he a great artist but through his involvement with the Ryan White Foundation he helped millions of people living with HIV afford the emmensely expensive drugs that help keep them alive. Michael Jackson was, is, and will always be the GREATEST. My heart is broken and my sole is missing part of its light. We will always love you Michael.

Yup he gets the trial he tried to by his way out of in 1993.

Of course this time he won't get his legal dream team, won't get to bride witnesses, won't have nothing but the truth.

Then an eternity of some demons showing him just how being the victim of rape feels

again like in other threads-- if your so dam upset about how our system of justice works PLEASE DEPORT YOUR SELVES

And again as in other post-- THE ruling of the court system judged by his peers said acquittal, and be very clear -- you would hope the same would be true for anybody you cared about--so move on

cause if i said your brother mother father or such molested my kids and u knew i was lying -- you sure would like to yell at me about how your family member was acquitted.

Plus i might add - the question i would want you to buffoons to answer is this---

Is the truth worth more then the money received

And since minors cant enter into a legal binding contract, what is the parents role in saying lets not settle

again the words MJ and add you family members-- i bet your tune would change

          so sad

You know, I always thought that what he had done to himself with plastic surgery, made him hideous looking. And the drugs that was used to lighten his skin color probably didn't do him any good. It's too bad, for it may have played a part in what has happened.

Not just American music history. He was a worldwide sensation, hardly confined within American borders. Just look at how popular he was in Japan. People paid hundreds, even thousands of dollars just to stand in the same room as him. Like him or not, this man commanded the presence of every stage he was on, from 1969 until now.

It's still just a total shock to my senses. I mean, he's always been around. Michael was in the public eye (which never ceased to be curious about him) nigh on his entire life, and just to have him gone like this...it's heartbreaking.

He touched the lives of many people and there are many people that havent taken the time to recognize how peaceful and meaningful his music has played in the world.

As for those people who aimlessly comment on his life in a negative light...need to take a moment to self reflect! Everyone has done something in their life that another person would object to....and in the time of death and mourning for a loved one lost to someone in this world, if not in this case to MILLIONS - it is selfish, inconsiderate, and solidifies all the reason why this world has issues today. Ignorance. If you lived under a rock or in a cave for the past 50 years of this legends life- than you have deserve no air time because you missed HIStory!

It is a sad day today that the King of Pop has left us.....I heart goes out to the Jackson family and the children that he has left behind....just remember that the children have lost their father and best friend.....He was protraded as a pedophile but in today's law if that was true he would not have been able to have his children with him....stupidity reins with everyone but using your brain takes alot of practice....Michael will be missed by all that loved and adored him as a singer and artist.....

My younger brother (in his 30's) is so sad today. Michael was his hero growing up. I recall him begging for a red leather outfit (thriller) and desperately wanting to dance like Michael...

His wall in his room was covered with MJ posters.

I honestly don't know WHAT to think about the molestation charges. I wasn't there. It is between him and God. (although, I find it hard to imagine Lisa Marie would have lied to cover for him...I recall her saying in an interview, "If I ever thought he would touch a kid like that, I would have kicked his a**."). He was (granted) certainly odd, and he should have known better, than to let kids sleep in his room, if he were innocent...

All I know is, he was an extremely talented, if deeply troubled, man. His death is a loss of a tremendously talented presence for the world. God be with his family.

If Mahmoud Ahmadinejadhad died I would have considered it just as news worthy, but that doesn't mean I would have thought he was as good of an entertainer as Sinatra or as good of a dancer as Astaire. An entertainer died today. A great entertainer? Well, that's arguable, but a legend like is being portrayed in the press and on TV, no. He simply was not god's gift to entertainment. He was good, but just not that good. We lost a Shecky Green or Wally Cox, not a Bob Newhart or George Carlin.

I didn't know that either of us, in comments 13 & 13.1, mentioned anything about his relative entertainment prowess.

I thought you were simply brushing his death under the rug while trying to milk pageviews from it. Perhaps I should work on reading invisible digital text in the future.

FLORIDA- the point of why we just dont turn our heads and let you ramble and rip this man is --

becuase for us proud americans that still believe in those who accomplish ANY thing they want to -- and go farther then most ever have-- and bring together people from all differant races all differant colors that speak all differant languages, there is a sense of respect that is shown

i dont care if you dont like him-- but i do care that you make sure that you be HONEST of what you want to provide even in a negitive light about someone who happens to have provided over 40 years of music, hope, inspiration and energy to all parts of this planet

he did what he did longer then most people hold a steady job-- and with his PERSONAL issues you have no doubt the right to provide your opinion on that privately but should not assume that publicly -- it will be tolerated in a form that is less then truthful in the light of facts

facts such as how our criminal justice system works (not guilty is as it is said "not guilty") (aquittal is his PEERS processed the information provided and made a decision!)

facts as far as how settlement offers work(meaning parents were not brainwashed to take money)

And lastly it is not about us controlling any thing-- it is to let you and some others know that WE are tired of some of our fellow americans that at least PUBLICLY clearly dont respect our rule of laws and have respect for people that have crossed over generations in some familys.

That are arragant about how simple life can be turned off and forget that our justice system is not a open and shut door but a revolving door that can provide for hope to prevail even in the darkest deepest mounds of evidence.

So we are tired of the negitive nellys that simple forget how GOOD THEY HAVE IT- and we are the ones who do stand up to bullies and wont let you type you sillyness --

thus when somebody that acts like you comes along to spit half truths and incorrect facts-- we meet you head on--

and again i dont care if you like him or hate him-- the point is most of just want ONE DAY TO PROCESS this and be respectful to a man that was known in almost every part of this planet - the MJ Newsvine police are busting your chops-- cuase in the end--

most of know the saying-- "just cause you can doesnt mean you should"--

when somebody that acts like you comes along to spit half truths and incorrect facts-- we meet you head on--

Half truths? Incorrect facts? O.K., CJ, let's see.

....ignoring the dinosaur in the living room.

This is a telling statement about the tone of the response, and a challenge to you and your apologists to look closer at what is the salient concern, i.e., that of the attempted deification of one of the world's most visible "...abusers of themselves with mankind".

...I pray he found the truth and really repented before the end.

I cannot fathom your objection here.

                  ....he certainly is now.

                  "Be afraid. Be very afraid."

My quote from "The Fly" is fitting for you, as the issue concerns monsters, metaphorically speaking.

Certainly no half-truth there, or "incorrect" facts. (If something is "fact" per se, then by definition is it not automatically "correct"?) Just because the inquisitors burned as heretics those who reported astronomical observations inconsistent with the papal view, none of that ever changed the fact that we do not live in a geocentric solar system, much less the universe.

one is most vocal about issues closest to their own abberations.....

Even you will have to agree that one need not subscribe to Psychology Today to recognize the truth here, no?

That's the sum above this post, and below it....

...filthy communication, especially in a public venue, displays a discernable lack of moral fiber. Those are "standards of decency" worldwide. "Beyond crude"??? Your vocabulary betrays you.

In the civilised world, this is indisputable. If you do not care to reside there, then at least for the short time you visit the Vine, please try to remember and consider this "truth".

I merely quoted from Peter Comb's post that you took issue with, and frankly, they are all true. Research yourself.

...fawn prostrate before the media babel.

No half-truths there, as you can see if you take the time to simply read the majority of the posts in this thread alone.

The other week I saw some beautiful evening gown-clad airhead introduce Quentin Tarantino as "...a god!", and I could not change the channel fast enough. The media "babel" may be my opinion, but really now, can you honestly deny it is true to the core? Surely, even you will grudgingly admit "no half-truth there".

At least Jack throws out a thoughtful bone every now and then.

Read more of Jack Huang and his postings. Though I see little I can agree with, there at least is thought behind his musings, and I stand by that statement as well... no half-truth or "incorrect" fact there either.

Please, enlighten me. Enlighten the world.

Or keep your acusations to another more suited arena.

(I on the other hand, have herein the illustrious 'Vine been accused of "rambling", and would plead the 5th, but in the spirit of "truth" that is this discussion, must plead guilty. On occasion.)

Well its great you went through all that trouble-- but its very clear that people who have to put things in a box-- based on books--

seems to be the type of persons that reality is not a constant---

my tone is about the fact that i see negatives and positives every day

and am so tired of people who PUBLICLY knock others down even though facts based on the laws of this great country are as they are.

I could care less if you privately dont like MJ but on the first day of his death you wont get alot of us to feel it is right to down a man who for 30 yrs of his life - has done more good then ALL the bad you think has to be focused on the day of his death.

Since i work in the jail--- i have seen enough people who were DEAD guilty after arrest, but the rule of law wrongly applied by prosecutors gave them a pass-- i have seen innocent folks get jail time until appeal of there case-- i have seen people who will stay in the system cause that's all they know-- and i have seen the people who can barely breath cuase they have been arrested for a felony and go threw the system and were found not guilty--

guess what same thing happened to MJ and alot of us have Maturity enough to accept the system as it is-- and expect to work when our loved one have issues - so

when i say speak facts and at least for one day FACTS about aquittals and settlements and not guilty are simply that.

                    move on

Cathie, for anyone to stoop to filthy communication, especially in a public venue, displays a discernable lack of moral fiber. Those are "standards of decency" worldwide. "Beyond crude"??? Your vocabulary betrays you.

"John Gacey was a great Clown", and "OJ was a great football player" and "Cardinal Law in Boston was a great Religious intellect" are all true. Not crude. Not rude.

First, "...they found 15 plus children's bodies under his house.", and then, "...and a murderer.", and also: "he protected legions of pedophile priests." are granted, inflamatory. But there is truth there, and they in no way can be called crude and rude simply because one does't like to be bothered with the rest of the story.

Lets not fall prey to those who avoid the facts to tell their story, but allow the light of truth to enlighten us all to another side of the public debate.

                        Says the saint, I'm sure.

Jack, even you must admit it does not take a saint to see "The world needs standards of decency."

Manners arose as man congregated together out of necessity, and decency and "standards" followed and/or codeveloped. From these underpinings came what we call Common Law, irrefutable standards of conduct.

Jackson never met any of them in his personal life.

I take umbrage with this blanket statement, as his personal life overlapped his public persona, and vice versa.

Some of his giving was "decent" by any standard, and there are instances where a gem of noble gestures are found, even in his personal life. (I am not referring to his $110 million expenditure to construct landing zones for aliens.)

But we have to face it folks. Anyone who goes to such trouble and lengths to install laser alarm systems and bells and warning indicators around his bedroom, (no cockroach could get by undetected) is obviously hiding something creepy behind the closed doors. It does not take a rocket scientist intellect to figure out.

But to require sainthood to discern these truths, well 'cmom Jack. That's a stretch.

Jack, even you must admit it does not take a saint to see "The world needs standards of decency."

Oh, I don't disagree with that at all.

I'm simply saying that pretending moral superiority and overarching condemnation by declaring "the world needs standards of decency" falls flat until the speaker is, indeed, a faultless saint.

The idiocy is only heightened by "Jackson never met any of them in his personal life," as if there was a well-defined closed set of universal "standards of decency," which MJ entirely failed at meeting.

(I am not referring to his $110 million expenditure to construct landing zones for aliens.)

You have to admit that the idea was way cool in a "Wow, that's useless but awesomely random" way.

Or he's paranoid, often a symptom of deep mental disturbance, which many will agree he embodied. That, or he just piles his entire jewelry collection on top of his dresser. :-P

Due to the fact that Micheal Jackson is 99% plastic, he will be melted down into lego blocks so little kids can play with him for a change.

Hahahaha! Mabye it could be a Catholic church set you could build, complete with belltower and alter boys changing room. The lego priest could drive a windowless white lego van. The lego van could stop at the lego liquor store for some Jesus juice on the way to the MJ benefit concert for a lego orphanage.

Funny, I thought it was because he liked to touch boys in their "no no" places. He was broke because he tried to shut everyone up as to his bad deeds.
Anyone that names their child Blanket can't really be taken seriously.

His music was fantastic and the first album I ever owned as teenager, but that does not redeem his actions as a human being. The guy was just plain strange.

He didn't name the kid Blanket. His actual name is Prince Michael II. He's just been referred to as "Blanket" by the media after the Berlin incident.

Your comments speak volumes about your own unspoken issues, Jack.

No one has to be an "...armchair judge and jury" to see the merits of the arguments presented about the personal psycho-sexual characteristics manifested in the life and times of Michael Joseph Jackson from Gary, Indiana.

It is too late to worry about his soul. "As a tree falls, so shall it lay."

For once I agree with Jack; we should all be concerned about our own souls.

It's rather amusing that you repackage "pedophile (come on, OJ" as "the arguments presented about the personal psycho-sexual characteristics manifested in the life."

Rhetorical grandeur without an accompanying expansion of substantive thought simply indicates a penchant for self-inflation.

Jackson: Musical talent and showmanship beyond imagination and a work of genius, that will all time rank with the best elite.

His personal life and peculiar presence only added to the entire mystic and showmanship to elevate him to extraordinary super star heights.

Such musical brilliance will be missed and not again seen.

I'm sure you are. Empty claims are easy to make.

Our dog is more of an assett to humanity than MJ.

Perhaps. It, at least, is edible.

The only reason why we dont know your dirt is because you arent in the media every day for making any positive marks or contributions to society. The people that give back and are humanitarians are those people that are hated most. Sooooo if you consider your negative blogging a claim to fame than so be it, but in my books I wouldnt call that good morals. Being critical of someones life once they have past away is very insensitive and shows the world that you disregard peoples feelings....Treat others how you want to be treated is the old saying...That is called having morals....Listen to "Man In The Mirror" or Michael Jackson's HIStory CD you may learn a thing or two.

                                      Not true, mx.

It shows the world an avenue of critical thinking, a direction, if you will, down a pathway to explore what most would rather ignore and sweep under the rug. It is the hallmark of a healthy society to be able to freely, and critically analyze the merits of the life of its public figures.

Yes, but however most people would agree that distinction does not extend to child molesters.

People would have let his oddities go, and you would not have heard one bad word about him if he didn't rape those children.

                                            abacass- ARE YOU FOR REAL

where is the documentation that states that those or any kids were raped and that MJ was found guilty of that offense in a court of law in this country.

I have no issues with you feeling that MJ may have some screws loose-- but as i have said before and will say it too you!!

THE LAWS OF THIS GREAT COUNTY IS ALL WE HAVE AND THEY EVEN ARE AFFORDED TO YOU!

And assuming doesn't make it fact-- rumors doesn't make it fact--- parents who settle out of court and TAKE money doesn't make it fact --- So again be careful how you speak to people who still believe in the justice system

And then maybe you should step back and count your lucky stars that you or your family or friends don't have to deal with the justice system. And i know you have your mind made up-- but for one moment

                                            be humble

and think how you would feel if your mother- daddy- brother-sister- was arrested and booked into jail for a offense YOU KNOW they could not have committed because they were hanging out with you.

Now add in the fact that you cant pay the bail after it is set-- then you know once that court date is here and you notice the D.A is running his mouth about things that aren't relative to the case about your relative.

Then you sit and watch it all and in the end your family member is aquitted of the charges.

OOH but wait-- not only does the local paper still run the story again as if court had not sent down it ruling.

OOh but wait, -- the neighbors are still picketing out side because they cant believe your family got off.

OOh but wait-- your family member lost their job because they needed them to show up but since you didn't have enough bail to get them out humm.

OOh but wait-- you go to work in the same town and every one recognizes you as that "persons "family member and they want to tell you what they think,

So again in the scenario about your family member -- i would hope you see that if your family member was dealing with the justice system-- you hope the same words apply to you

                                            an aquittal is just that

                                            Not guilty is just that

and settlement is just what it is-- and in MJ's case it seems the parents found the truth was not a primary goal!!

So don't throw the word(child molester) around here, where they are some of us who are not here to say MJ is the best human on the planet == but are here to say that being negative is all right, but then at least try to be Honest about it.

just cause you can doesnt me you should!

FYI: Michael Jackson's spiritual advisor was Rabbi Schmuley Boteach. So much for the anti-semitic myth about Michael. I think you both should get your facts straight.

The song "they don't care about us" of the HIStory album contains the lyrics:

Jew me, sue me, everybody do me/ Kick me, kike me, don't you black or white me'"

He also left a voicemail on his former business manger's voicemail calling jews "leeches" and said "they suck." So maybe when you tell people to get their facts straight you should probably do a little research so you're less embarrassed when you speak to someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

That case never went to trial.

Also by that logic Nixon was innocent, because he was never convicted of a crime.

                                                  Does "soph" stand for sophomore?

If not "witnessed", perhaps read? Even in your country I am sure a Juris Doctotate has reading the classics and a bit of world history as a prerequisite.

"Hateful"? How about the conflict with the Serbs and Croatians? Or for that matter, between the Protestants and the Catholics in Ireland?

I can't see anything but hate in India for those unfortunate enough to be born an untouchable.

Oh wait...let's see. A British african. Tell me, was it love that prompted so many British to relo and subjigate the African continent? Maybe aparteid was a figment of the world's imagination?

Or consider Palestine, a hotbed of such hate that children are given to terrorists organizations in return for payment, and trained to become walking human bombs.

To be sure, America has its hate mongers, and yes, they have public venues to spout forth their rhetoric and poison. But to relagate our nation as "hateful" on the few hundred posts in Newsvine is, at best, infantile.

Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and no doubt others fancied young pubescent and attractive females. In both of these famous examples, love, not hate, was the motive. These guys married these youthful girls, and for all the world to see, loved them.

To juxtapose them, with their shortcomings and their true love to the sick and perverse lust of homosexual predilection, and the predatory tendencies that manifests around and for 8 - 10 year-old boys, is wrong. It is derelict.

One who attains a law degree should be able to see the difference.
