Palin resigning as Alaska governor

advertisement

WASILLA — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin surprised supporters Friday and announced she is resigning from office at the end of the month without explaining why she plans to step down — throwing into question whether she would seek a run for the White House in 2012.

The news rattles a Republican Party plagued with setbacks in recent weeks, including extramarital affairs disclosed by two other 2012 presidential prospects, Nevada Sen. John Ensign and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.

Palin hastily called a news conference Friday morning at her home in suburban Wasilla, giving such short notice that only a few reporters actually made it to the announcement. Security blocked late-arriving media outside her home, and her spokesman, Dave Murrow, finally emerged to confirm that Palin will step down July 26. He refused to give details about the governor's future plans.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate said she had been considering leaving office since she decided not to run for re-election.

"Many just accept that lame duck status, and they hit that road. They draw a paycheck. They kind of milk it. And I'm not going to put Alaskans through that," Palin said.

Palin spokesman David Murrow said the governor didn't say anything to him about this being her "political finale." Murrow said he interpreted Palin's comment about working outside government as reflecting her current job only.

"She's looking forward to serving the public outside the governor's chair," he said.

Political analyst Larry Sabato, in Charlottesville, Va., said Palin's announcement left many wondering what her plans were.

"It's absolutely bizarre, and I think it eliminates her from serious consideration for the presidency in 2012," he said.

Palin hinted that she had a bigger role in mind, saying she wanted to make a "positive change outside government." But she kept supporters in suspense, promising later Friday on Twitter: "We'll soon attach info on decision to not seek re-election ... this is in Alaska's best interest, my family's happy ... it is good. Stay tuned."

Jerry McBeath, a veteran political science professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, called the pending resignation a "smart move," both for Palin and the state.

"Alaska is an isolated stage from which to operate if you want to figure in American national politics. I don't know what she has in mind, some TV show or some national radio show. There are opportunities for her, I'm sure."

"After all, Rush Limbaugh is getting old, and cranky, and the airwaves and the videowaves would benefit form a new present. She certainly is photogenic, and that is her area of experience. So I would say it's a response to opportunity instead of 'getting out before they get you,'" he said.

As for the state, he said Palin's departure will reduce the distractions and return Alaska to normal politics.

Palin said her family weighed heavily in her decision.

"This decision has been in the works for a while. This decision comes after much consideration, prayer and consideration," she said. "Finally, I polled the most important people in my life, my kids, where the count was unanimous. Well, in response to asking, 'Hey, you want me to make a positive difference and fight for all our children's future from outside the governor's office?' It was four yeses and one 'Hell, yeah!" And the hell, yeah sealed it."

Palin's decision not to seek re-election was a familiar one for a potential presidential candidate. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney chose not to seek another term as he geared up for an unsuccessful 2008 presidential bid. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has announced he won't seek another term, giving him plenty of free time ahead of a potential 2012 bid.

And Alaska's remote location seemed prohibitive for her to visit key early states such as Iowa, New Hampshire or South Carolina. She would lose at least a day for travel on each trip, while her competitors could make day trips to Des Moines, Manchester or Columbia to drive news.

By exiting the governor's office early, she wouldn't be held back by her day job's duties or be drawn into state-level fights with national implications. But the early exit from the governorship also raised questions about how seriously she takes her job.

Palin emerged from relative obscurity nearly a year ago when she was tapped as then Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate.

She was a controversial figure from the start, with comedian Tina Fey famously imitating her elaborate hairstyle and folksy "You betcha!" on "Saturday Night Live."

She didn't leave the limelight once McCain lost the presidency. She recently led a public spat with "Late Show" host David Letterman over a joke he made about one of her daughters being "knocked up" by New York Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez during the governor's recent visit to New York. Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, is an unwed, teenage mother. Letterman later apologized for the joke.

Her 2008 running mate, Sen. John McCain, wouldn't be offering reaction on Friday, a spokeswoman said.

Palin also complained that her 14-month-old son, Trig, who was diagnosed with Down's syndrome, had been "mocked and ridiculed by some mean-spirited adults recently." She didn't elaborate.

Fred Malek, a Republican strategist who has advised Palin over the past year, said Palin was "really unhappy with the way her life was going."

"She felt that the pressures of the job combined with her family obligations and the demands and desires to help other Republican candidates led her to decide not to run again. Once that decision was made, she realized, why not do it now and let the lieutenant governor take over and get a head start on his election," Malek said.

The 2008 vice presidential nominee was seen as a likely presidential contender in 2012 and had proved formidable among the party's base. But the last week brought a highly critical piece in Vanity Fair magazine, with unnamed campaign aides questioning if she was ever really prepared for the presidency.

The backbiting continued through the week, with follow-up articles recounting the nasty infighting that plagued her failed bid. Her advisers sniped with other Republicans, underscoring the deeply divided GOP looking for its next standard bearer.

Palin's resignation announcement caught Republicans and Democrats alike by surprise, but it also suggested she had her eyes on another presidential run. She alluded to how she could help change the country and help military members — code that she didn't think her time on the national stage was over.

But the early exit from the governorship also raised questions about how serious she takes her job.

Palin's resignation, timed on the eve of the July 4 holiday when many Americans had already begun a three-day weekend, seemed designed to avoid publicity while openly leaving office.

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the governor's picnic in Fairbanks at the end of the month.

Palin was first elected in 2006 on a populist platform. But her popularity has waned as she waged in partisan politics following her return from the presidential campaign. Her term would have ended in 2010.

Palin expressed frustration with her current role as governor.

"I cannot stand here as your governor and allow the millions of dollars and all that time go to waste just so I can hold the title of governor," Palin said.

Palin's decision even took Parnell by surprise. He said he was told on Wednesday evening, and was not aware that any presidential ambitions were behind the move.

Other recent GOP troubles include affairs by Ensign and Sanford. Ensign, a member of the Christian ministry Promise Keepers, stepped down from the Senate Republican leadership last month after admitting he had an affair for much of last year with a woman on his campaign staff who was married to one of his Senate aides. Ensign later disclosed he had helped the woman's husband get two jobs during the affair.

A government watchdog group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, wants the Senate ethics committee and the Federal Election Commission to investigate.

Just days after news of Ensign's affair broke, Sanford admitted an affair with a woman in Argentina. Some lawmakers are now calling for his resignation. Before the admission, Sanford had been missing from the state for five days visiting his lover. He had slipped his security detail, lied to his staff about where he was and failed to transfer power to the lieutenant governor in case of a state emergency.

The party's troubles seem to have left two prominent 2012 prospects, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and 2008 presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, unscathed, however.

And get off our airwaves and internet space. Seeing as how she just lost the only real authority she once had. Though somehow I think this will increase the amount we see of her.

Maybe she realized that she wasn't fit to be governor? Though that might be asking a bit much.

Let me just get this out of the way: We all know Sarah Palin's an absolutely fascinating figure. And there's plenty to speculate about here.

Follow the Code of Honor in the ensuing discussion. Thank you.

...

I am very surprised that there wasn't a reason given immediately. She seems like such an intuitive politician I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a plan behind the lack of stated reason.

I believe the reason she resigned was so she can focus on her upcoming reality show "Pallin' around with the Palins" Levi and his mother will be moving in to the palin home and each week will feature challenges like who can shoot the most animals from a helicopter or who can sell the most Oxy in a set time. Every week a new house member will be nominated for resignation.

You guys kill me. If, and I say that carefully, she is planning a run for Pres in 2012, this is exactly what she should do. The left would be all over her in the media and internet if she continued to be governor " and was using Alaska funds to campaign" like some other well known politicians like John Edwards, John McCain, Obama, Hillary Clinton, etc. At LEAST, if she is going to run, she decided not to stay on the payroll and waste taxpayers money like so many others do and have done. BTW, although she did campaign in the fall - it was nowhere near the amount of campaigning those mentioned above and certainly a whole lot LESS than Obama who was in the Senate for all of 143 days.

Sorry to disagree with you SR, but if it is population control, then there' wouldn't be any need for nature to control itself...You see, let's have moose being hunted by wolves. When the moose population goes down, so does the wolf population. If moose goes up, wolf goes up until the moose drops again. Therefore, it seems that nature and life itself is controlling the population rises and falls of those two animals, and for humans to interfere and kill wolves just for their version of "population control"...that's just not right.

Simplistic, do you eat wolves? She supports the practice of aerial wolf "hunting" (which many consider a inferior way to hunt, because of the difficulty in getting off a clean shot- the target is likely to get wounded and not die), not because of wolf overpopulation, but because wolves might (heaven forbid) prey on the moose and caribou SHE wants to hunt (from a plane).

There are only 18 months left in her term. All that she doesn't know about politics and world affairs today will not make a bit of difference in a few months because imo she's got a LOT of studying to do. I believe there is MORE to this resignation and it's gonna be a HOTTER MESS than Rob, Mark and all the others combined when it comes out.

It sounded to me, from that rambling speech, that she wants to do community organizing. The same thing she ridiculed Pres. Obama for during the campaign. Regardless of what she was trying to say, imo she just came off sounding like Mark Sanford....saying a whole lot without saying anything.

I imagine this is the tip of an iceberg. Either there are new ethics violations and she's getting out before she is thrown out, or she wants to take all the next years to work solely on learning what are countries and what are continents and what it is exactly that a president does. Or it could be she finally realized she cannot be a governor, much less a president and is leaving the political arena. The last though would require intelligence and personal strength/insight. So... not likely.

Let me just say that as a move toward a 2012 presidential run, this is a titanically stupid move. She has an obligation to serve out her term, unless there is something drastically wrong-- "I don't feel like being a lame duck" is not something drastically wrong, it's selfish gamesmanship, sending exactly the wrong message for hopes for future involvement in national politics.

What are we learning from this? That a Palin presidency would only serve from January 2013 to November 2016? Would she quit early on being President because she didn't feel like being a lame duck? The truth is that she isn't saving Alaska's taxpayers a dime with this stunt-- in fact she is costing them. Gotta swear in the Lt Governor, can't ensure a smooth transition to the next Governor's team, et cetera, ad nauseam.

It is an act which highlights just how horrible a Palin Presidency would actually be, and draws attention to the disaster which was narrowly averted last Fall.

There is simply no way this won't have negative ramifications for a future run at the White House.

My guess is that she will try to turn her faux martyrdom into some serious coin by trying to become a "non-politician" leader of the marginalized religious fundamentalists in the Culture Wars. Expect lots of speeches and fund-raising, and perhaps guest pundit spots on Fox News and conservative talk radio.

For Palin to leave before the end of her term without explanation to her constituency is extremely self-serving, no matter how she tries to spin it.

Bottom line: nobody likes a quitter.

Her popularity sinks, so she decides to get out before her approval ratings go down any farther... a year and a half before the end of her term. I suppose, on top of the rest of her "qualifications" to be President, we can add "quitter".

When the going gets tough, Palin quits. Perfect! She just gets more "qualified" every day.

Most recently, she led a public spat with "Late Show" host David Letterman over a joke he made about one of her daughters being "knocked up" by New York Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez during the governor's recent visit to New York. Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, is an unwed, teenage mother.

What is the purpose of mentioning 18 year old Bristol who was not with Palin in New York and did not attend the ball game?

It is well known that the 14 year old daughter, Willow, was in New York with Palin and was the daughter who did attend the baseball game

Looks very much like a pathetic intentional attempt at deception to try to excuse Letterman's boorish and perverted comments about the underage girl

Palin said she planned to make a "positive change outside government,"without elaborating.
Palin's decision even took Parnell by surprise. He said he was told on Wednesday evening, and was not aware that any presidential ambitions were behind the move.

a pathetic intentional attempt at deception

Yeah! That's what it is! Sorta' like a "well-known fact" after the fact, if you get my meaning, if you get my drift.

Like, say:

It is well known that the 14 year old daughter, Willow, was in New York with Palin and was the daughter who did attend the baseball game(.)

Like I say, after-the-fact; 'nuff said.

As for Puff, he or she is just angry because most of us does not think, act or share his or her views.

I think there something more to the resignation. It has nothing to do with 2012 or her presidential run.

She did something really horrible, immoral, unforgivable, evil, unethical or some combination. She stepping down before it become news so big, global that it will rock the world.

Speculation:

  • Some of her kids has different fathers
  • She committed adultery worst than Sanford
  • She has Sex video that may be release. Some Hillbilly Swingers Tape
  • She contributed to some White Supremacist movement
  • She embezzled money from the state
  • She accepted bribe money from Oil Industry
  • She accepted bribe money from somebody or some entity
  • She violated several state and federal laws regarding nepotism.
  • Her Last Child was actually her daughters, not hers.
  • She Getting Divorced
  • One or more of her child is pleading the courts to divorce her parents and became a Democrat
  • Fill in the blank!
  • BTW, If she resign to fully dedicate her time for 2012 Presidential run. This tells something about her character. She can't handle the job of Alaskan Governor. So, why would you any person want her to be President. Being Governor of Alaska is one of more easier Governor jobs compare to the other states.

So she can't be governor, mother, wife, candidate, etc.

The woman trashed herself by her ridiculous behavior. She paraded those kids around like they were circus ponies, and aired her family's dirty laundry in public. She even used Trig as part of her excuse for abandoning the Governor's office.....the only part of the excuse that sounded rational, by the way.

And what woman in her right mind is going to respect a woman who wants to push women's rights back into the Dark Ages?

I think that Obama will very quickly wish that the libs had let Gov. Palin alone after the election. She would have completed two terms as Alaska Governor, and perhaps faded back into obscurity. Instead, as with Letterman, the personal attacks just kept coming.

Now, I expect Sarah to campaign for conservative candidates for the 2010 election cycle, and garner chits for a possible 2012 Presidential run. She will provide a much-needed focal-point for conservative opposition to the current administration.

Seemingly, Obama is going to have the first major fight of his political career. One that I don't think that he can win. Thus far, he has bested political opponents via stabbing them in the back, by proxy. Like the two candidates in his first election for office that he managed to get off the ticket via news about their personal lives and divorces.

Now Obama, who has the soul of a pimp, is going to be faced by some one who is willing to fight as necessary. I don't think that he will like it one bit.

For such a failure, for such a loser, the liberals are sure wasting all their torpedoes. From the descriptions, Palin is already resting on the bottom of the sea, but there is salvo after salvo coming from every faction of the left. It is fascinating to watch the champions of diversity attacking the little niches of diversity that don't support their agenda, trimming the diversity down to uniformity. Keep up the show. Most of us conservatives know what hideous monsters comprise the left, but the attacks on Palin put liberalism on display for all, so maybe any decent but deceived Democrats will find the courage to reject the Democrat party of hate.

We know. We know you have unlimited pussy ammo. Keep firing away. It is amusing. Palin is riding high and full steam even after months of the liberal left pussy fire. She's going to make millions, and she should send you guys a thank you card. But it doesn't mean the left isn't still full of perverts. Maybe you can get her to sign a copy of her new book for you to sniff and lust after when you go to bed each night.

ROTFLMBO!!! a Freaking liberal Dem reporting ANYONE on this thread for ANYTHING. That's toilet scum reporting a clean sink.

The issue on this thread is NOT Sarah Palin - it's her resignation. Good thing for you all that I"m not moderating this thread or most of the crap you've posted would have been deleted.

And the REALLy funny part of all this is that she's NOT going to go away. I listened to her "I'm going to resign" talk last night and she plans to go around the country counter attacking you slimeballs. Without running for office, she can do that without incurring the millions of dollars you all cost the tax payers of Alaska in legal fees fighting your empty accusation - of which she has been cleared.

I am glad I left the Democrap party. You're not worth the time it would take to fart in your faces.

          Dave #1.72 & 1.78

In 1.72 you demonstrate your ignorance of the law and of actual custom and usage. ON any aircraft or ship, the Captain isn't the law - he's GOD with the literal power of life and death. Period. The President can tell the pilot or Captain where he wants to go, but he cannot tell him how to get there or how to fly the plane, or any number of other issues.

          in 1.78

Yep, your hero went down in flames and we are going to keep shooting until there is nothing left.

Dude - you had nothing to START with. You should have quit long ago.

BTW - the TOPIC of this thread is Sarah Palin's RESIGNATION. If this seed had any kind of moderator at all - most of the crap about her personally would have been deleted. But then your people can't seem to read anyway. I referenced the attack on Trig and one of your shining stars asked me to SOURCE it. IT'S IN THE ARTICLE - MORON!

Yep - if I hadn't left the Democrap party years ago, I'd damn sure be doing it now!

Then we'd be assured the people making less than $250000.00 wouldn't get the Obama energy tax, healthcare tax and life style taxes!! Best of all, the stimulus wouldn't go to ACORN and other community funds to destroy America. Another Obama tax would disappear. One does not not have to be a psycho-pathologist to discern from your statements that you do have; issues of a psycho sexual nature.

Look at what you wrote: "pussy fire" "sniff and lust after". Even your name is an indication, Kissmyarsenal; Kiss my ass.

Those are all words that you chose to use, it does not take an expert to see that you do have issues.

The fact that you call others perverted, shows that you are not even aware of your own issues.

I do hope you get some help so that you can understand yourself better, and embrace yourself with acceptance, for your short comings.

First you drop the Obama load on America, and now you try to go after the individual resisters of Marxism. I can see you read and re-read my post several times, drawn to the words that already fill your imagination, perhaps your childhood. Butt sniffing is not very becoming, so you liberals should give it up.

The truth has a way of evaporating around Sarah Palin, I don't know why. Check this flatly untrue assertion by the unsympathic writer at Vanity Fair:

Palin was able to increase the annual distribution from the state's Permanent Fund to about $3,000 per resident, almost double the amount received the previous year. She could be a fiscal conservative and a big spender all at the same time.

            http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2009/08/sarah-palin200908?currentPage=3

This is simply not true. There is an extra check she gave out last year- a one-time deal called the Alaska Resource Rebate, but the above is just a wrong portrayal of the situation; its only relationship to the Permanent Fund Dividend is that PFD eligibility was used to determine ARR eligibility- and the checks were mailed together.

The writer seems to think the Permanent Fund Dividend is reliant on oil prices, but that's not the case; it's invested in the stock market and rises and falls with the Dow Jones, and has since its inception in 1982.

            Here's a link showing payouts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Permanent_Fund

            Kissmyarsenal:

"Brightstone, thanks for the advice, it is as insightful and useful as a turd, but what would one expect to be delivered from the digestive tract.?"

Uh...oh....I thought you only had psycho sexual issues, now I see you also have scatological issues............what Pandora's box have I opened? every tawdry word you post, reveals deeper and ever more intricate dark layers of illness and perversion.

"first you drop the Obama load on America, and now you try to go after individual resisters of Marxism."

whew!...that is some serious hyperbolic prose, it is totally out of context with reality. Let's put this in context shall we? first of all, President Obama made his case for the Presidency of the United States to the American voters. The American voters responded by electing him to office with the majority of electoral and popular vote. "Obama ran the best campaign in history" those words were spoken by that extreme left wing Marxist Nancy Reagan.

The extremist right wing ideologues did not follow the honorable example of John McCain, his gracious concession speech was patriotic and spoke about pulling together and moving forward with the new President. The ideolouges could not lose with dignity and grace, instead they went on the attack, even before Obama was sworn in they were attacking him and trying to scare the American people by predicting that the sky would now fall because he was President. They have continued to attack his barely 6 month old Presidency non stop, because he did not instantly correct the mess that George the Buffoon Bush left behind, after his eight year rule of this country.

The right wing ideologues have shown themselves to be nothing more then; Treasonous, Unpatriotic, secessionist cry babies who would rather see the President and country fail so that they can be right and say "I told you so" They are a transparently pathetic bunch of sore losers and phony patriots who care more about their ideology then their country.

"I can see you read and re-read my post several times, drawn to the words that already fill your imagination..."

That is also out of context, you do not know anything about what is in my imagination. The only thing you know about me is what words I post to express myself. Just like the only thing I know about you are the words that you chose to post on this website, words like - "pussy fire" "sniff and lust after" "kissmyarsenal" (kiss my ass) "turd" "digestive tract" -material- "butt sniffing". Those are all your words, they came from your mind, you wrote them, no one else did. Now your running away from your own words and trying to spin it by saying it was in my imagination. what's up with that? Do you enjoy making a fool out of yourself?

I did not read your post several times, I read it twice because I did not understand the first time, so I read it a second time to try and make sense out of your convoluted logic.

"If you want to help me and America with our issues, dump the chumps Obama, Reid, and Pelossi and give America back it's freedom"

More hyperbolic right wing dribble, first of all you write as though I am not a citizen of America. wouldn't it have been more appropriate to write "if we want to help our fellow Americans" Then you write about fixing everything by dumping Pelossi and Reid etc... So you don't see the value of working with people, you just want to get rid of everybody that disagrees with you, no common ground, no communication, no civility, no attempt at unity? just wipe out the other side and then have it all your way.

Sorry, that's not the system we have here in America, we have something called Democracy, which requires hard work and vigilance by those that have consented to be Governed, and if they don't like it they can change it every few years by voting, just like happened in 2008. See how it works?

The get rid of the opposition and have it all my way philosophy is in play in Iran today. I prefer what we have here in America better, I think it is the best system.

"...and give America back its freedom and liberty"

what the hell does that mean? I took away Americas freedom?; how?, by voting?, by exercising my Constitutional Right of free speech?, by working and paying taxes?, by behaving in a lawful manner? tell me what exactly are you talking about?

If you want to see a country that has lost it's freedom, again look to Iran. Thousands of Iranians have been denied their freedom and are being arrested, murdered, disappeared, tortured...etc Their free news media has been shut down and the only news they hear is what the Government wants them to hear and public protest has been banned.

where in America do you see all that happening? has any Government agent arrested you or knocked on your door? are you truly afraid for your life when you speak out or post your opposition to the Government, truly afraid like the people in Iran are afraid? can you show us real proof of the loss of freedom in America today? or is your notion of loss of liberty the fact that the guy you did not vote for is president? That is not loss of freedom, it is proof of a healthy American Democracy, the oldest functioning Democracy the world has ever seen.

I will take a guess as to what will happen to you now that you have posted all of your Hate Obama and the Democrats rant. You will not be arrested or jailed, instead you will go to your refrigerater and get some processed fatty food to eat while you watch FOX NEWS spew their daily right wing propaganda, as they have been doing for years and years with out the Government ever shutting them down.

"give America back its freedom and liberty"

American freedom and liberty is doing very well thank you very much. You only make a fool of yourself when you cry about your loss of freedom while watching Fox News. You don't know what tyranny is, your like a spoiled ignorant ingrate that does not understand what he has. All you know how to do is whine and cry like a baby because the man you hate became President in 2008. Grow up your embarassing yourself.

brightastarone, such sage and fatherly advice from a whimped out liberal who doesn't even know what freedom is. From a liberal who would drop drawers and bend over at the finger snap of Obama, Reid, or Pelosi.

Tyranny, soft tyranny to date, is Obama, Reid, and Pelosi ignoring the Constitution and taking this country down an authoritarian path by defeating the human spirit with their trumped up and manufactured crises and turning everyone into pathetic government dependents. So far they have been successful at causing the people to misdirect their outrage at each other rather than the government, but that has a finite play time and it is starting to change.

If growing up means being a wuss liberal who can't wipe his own butt without a hand from the government, then keep me young God, please, because those grown up liberals are despicable creatures, sorry excuses for Americans, sorry excuses for humans, and that life isn't for me.

Being the good liberal you are, you will turn on CNN or MSLSD, get a picture of Sarah Palin, grasp your short limb with your right hand, and exercise it vigorously for a minute or two, and then have your cat give you a bath. Then there is a hit on a joint, the obligatory check in with the parole officer, and later maybe a strip joint with the procedes of the paycheck from ACORN.

If you want to see a country that has lost it's freedom, again look to Iran. Thousands of Iranians have been denied their freedom and are being arrested, murdered, disappeared, tortured...etc

"drop drawers and bend over..." "...get pictures of Sarah Palin, grasp your short limb with your right hand and exercise it vigorously for a minute or two, and then have your cat give you a bath..."

Remember what I posted on # 1.100: ".......what Pandora's box have I opened? every tawdry word you post, reveals deeper and ever more intricate dark layers of illness and perversion."

Thank you for proving my point for me, Kissytroll.

You know Kissytroll, in all the ranting that you posted, you never answered my question; has the Government ever come after you or anyone you know for speaking out against the Government? Have you been followed and surveiled?, is your phone tapped?, have Government agents come to your home and threatened you? has the Government stopped you from speaking out or posting your opposition on the Internet?, were thousands of TEA BAGGERS arrested when they had their allegedly massive nation wide protest? What consequences have you endured that would prove you're losing your freedom?

"....give America back its freedom and liberty."

You did not offer any proof or share any stories or experiences that would back up your claim that Americans have lost their freedom and liberty. Instead you gave a long winded right wing rant, with the same stale talking points, nothing new or original just the S.O.S. same old s--t. I guess your incapable of original thought,...huh....Kissytroll?

It's alright Kissytroll, I understand you got nothing. You can comfort yourself by going to your refrigerator and getting another tasty process food snack, sit yourself down on your favorite comfy sofa and watch FOX NEWS, and try to find some new talking points that you can write down, which might strengthen your fantasy about Americas lost freedom and liberty, no one will bother or try to stop you, because you live in a free country.

what Pandora's box have I opened?

brightastaronce, It is Palin's "box" you and your disgusting gang of Obama drones would like to open. Weirdos and perverts attacking virtue because they have none themselves.

I write the talking points for conservatives. It isn't hard to come up with the faults of the libs, always wanting something for nothing, always envious of what others earned that they are too lazy or incompetent to learn themselves. Libs are barbarians who use the government and law to pillage their fellow man.

I find it amazing liberals can suck the government teat and type at the same time. One would thing that with even that little coordination and capacity for effort they could manage to get a job and take care of themselves and their families, but no, life isn't fair to them, so they have to monkey up the works for everyone.

FoxNews is number one for a reason. Mock it all you want. Your attacks on FoxNews derive from the same "unfairness doctrine" that fuels the psychopathology of the left, of Democrats, of liberals, reasoning that your news of choice sucks, FoxNews is better, so level the playing field by damaging the opposition rather than rising to quality to compete. Pathetic.

What's with your food fixation? Don't tell me you're one of those pasty faced sack of bone eating disordered body image distorted libs. Let me guess, you are a huge Michael Jackson fan? I knew it.

"......it is Palins box you and your disgusting gang of Obama drones would like to open." "Weirdos and perverts attacking virtue because they have none themselves."

Kissytroll; of the two of us, the only one that has posted words that show a weird perverted pyshco sexual mentality is......YOU, remember what YOU wrote?

Post # 1.81 - "we know you have unlimited pussy ammo...liberal left pussy fire...maybe you can get her to sign a copy of her new book for you to sniff and lust after, when you go to bed each night."

Post # 1.88 - "A pussy (cat) torpedo fired my way"

Post # 1.96 - "....useful as a turd,....delivered from the end of the digestive tract?"

Post # 1.102 - "....drop drawers and bend over....get a picture of Sarah Palin, grasp your short limb with your right hand and exercise....then your cat can give you a bath...."

Post # 1.104 - "it is Palins box you and....would like to open."

That's all you Kissytroll, all those words came from you and you alone, those are your words, from your mind; no one Else's. What can be reasonably discerned from your choice of words is that you, do have definite psycho sexual perversions with scatological and bestiality undertones. You are one sick puppy Kissytroll, and you really...really...really... like Sarah Palin. You know what Kissytroll, I think that even Saint Sara would be weirded out by a perverted word smith like you.

I was trying to help you out by pointing it out, so that you could stop embarrassing yourself. But you keep on injecting your perverted sexual innuendos in what is suppose to be a political discussion.

            "what's with your food fixation?"

Did I hit another nerve with that one Kissytroll?. I wonder, are you one of those over weight trolls that spends most of his life watching TV, and blogging on the Internet in his parents basement? Just asking.

Now Kissytroll, in all of your predictable boring right wing rant; you never once answered my question. Let me remind you - You made the allegation that Americans have lost their freedom and liberty. I asked you to share with us the horrific experiences that you have personally had with the Government oppression that has been inflicted upon you since your freedom and liberty have been taken away.

I'm waiting Kissytroll tell everyone about your oppression, remember what you said in Post # 1.96 "...give America back it's freedom and liberty."

I stand by my words. To be effective, one has to communicate at the level of the audience. I was quite effective in reaching you and your contemporaries and thanks for proving that. And your effort to prove you are not a pervert by trying to pin your title on someone else is to no avail. The Democrat party is the party of perversion.

You seem to dwell on the the words and thoughts you deride. Those are called intrusive thoughts, common in mental illness. And again, the food obsession. What is it you have against food and fat intrusive thoughts? I would venture to say it has something to do with a relationship gone weird you had with a first degree relative when you were young, maybe still ongoing.

And enough with the kissytroll. Sounds like a term of endearment one would use to gain a sexual favor -- forget it. Stick with your heterospecies bent.

            Kissytroll:

"I stand by my words. to be effective, one has to communicate at the level of the audience."

Of course you stand by your words, good for you. As far as your level of communicating, it's obvious that your level of communication is that of a sexually obsessed pervert. On your last post #1.106 you try to sound dignified and professorial in your prose to save face because, I called you out on being a perverted word smith, that even Sarah Palin would be creep-ed out by. But you can't quite pull it off, you mess up when you speculate that I had a relationship gone weird with a first degree relative when I was young that may still be ongoing. You see, now we can add incest to your laundry list of perverted sexual obsessions.

As for my referring to you as Kissytroll, I took the first 4 letters of your web name "kiss" and eliminated the last 9 "myarsenal" and added Troll because you are a Troll, so I used that because, I figured it would be more appropriate, but of course in your perverted mind it has to do with a term of endearment to gain sexual favor with you, man you are sick.

And still you have not answered my question, Kissytroll; you made the charge that American freedom and liberty have been taken away, and you want them back. So share with us your sad stories of oppression since your freedom and liberty have been taken away. I think this is the 3rd time I've asked you and you have not answered.

What's the matter Kissytroll, are you not man enough to admit when you are wrong, that maybe you went overboard with your hyperbolic prose, and excessive exaggeration? If not, then please tell us about your brutal oppression in America today.

So kissytroll; the entire Internet community is waiting to hear how you have been brutalized and savaged by our Government since your freedom and liberty have been taken away. Please back up what you said with facts.....there are many people reading these posts, quick give us the breaking news on the oppressiveness of America, come on chicken little, tell us how the sky is falling.

Unless you can't because you lied, and can't think of anything else to say, and are to embarrassed to admit it.

You've got my attention Kissytroll, can you answer with a reasoned well thought out cogent response based on logical factual thought. Instead of the hysterical hyperbolic name calling, lame witless sexual innuendos, copy cat prose and non-sequitursthat you have so far given us. Are you capable of an original thought?

If not, then I respectfully suggest that you go back down to your parents basement and with your favorite tasty fatty snack food, sit on your comfy sofa chair and watch FOX NEWS again for more talking points, so that you can go back on the Internet and troll your right wing dribble, like the good little FOX NEWS zombie that you are.

I thought the Government had kidnapped you...

So far, I'm one step ahead of the capture, but they are hammering me on the private property, private business, taxes, and economic fronts.

the entire Internet community is waiting to hear how you have been brutalized and savaged by our Government

No, maybe some of the unabled special wants kids of the Democrat Party. All the intelligent, engaged, observant Americans, the ones I am concerned with, already know the government intrusions enacted and those coming down the pike. Your idea of loss of freedom and liberty is the government capturing and confining to prison. It is foreign to you that confiscation of wealth and property is loss of freedom and liberty. It is foreign to you that having to get government approval for business interactions is a loss of freedom. It is foreign to you that working extra hours to pay taxes, fees and penalties takes away time from your life and your family and pursuit of happiness.

You set your idea of freedom loss threshold at imprisonment, and I'll set mine at excessive taxation, confiscation of private property, and the demand to receive government permission for the common activites and possessions of daily private life, and we'll part as the good friends we've been here.

Typical liberal alive only for power, sex, and pleasure. You're still stuck on food and sex, I see, and still trying to gain a favor with the terms of endearment. I still say Obama is missing out not having you as his right hand thing.

                Kissytroll;

After asking 4 times you finally answer the question. What took you so long? Did you need a lot of time to come up with a plausible spin to justify your ridiculous exaggeration about Americas loss of freedom and liberty?

                Kissytroll answers:

"....but they are hammering me on private property, private business taxes..."

That's it,.....so paying taxes equates to the loss of freedom and liberty?

That's not a loss of freedom and liberty, that is a civic responsibility that nobody likes, but which is necessary for the common good and the running of the country. In-fact, the taxing authority is an economic mechanism that every country on earth uses to run their societies. It has been that way for thousands of years, unless one lives in a small primitive tribal society with no currency. I think you will agree that the United States is not a small primitive society, it is instead, a very complex economic and military super power with a varied and diverse population, containing people from all corners of the earth all contributing to its greatness.

Our Government has used taxes to partially or completely fund projects that some people would say contribute to the common good. Things like the interstate highway system, or the most potent and effective military the world has ever seen, or the social security system which is very popular with the American people and the greatest anti poverty program the Government ever created and let's not forget NASA the space program, that Government program put the first human on the moon and the American flag is still up there to proclaim that historic achievement, along with many scientific, medical and technological advances that have benefited and advanced all human kind in general, as a direct result of the governments space program. Which incidentally also created new jobs and economic activity.

"... is it foreign to you that confiscation of wealth and property is a loss of freedom and liberty."

So your wealth and property have been confiscated by the Government?....really?....how did that happen?

"is it foreign to you that having to get approval for business interactions is a loss of freedom and liberty."

So the Government regulation of businesses that make products and provide services that can affect the life and health of its citizens equates to a loss of freedom and liberty?

That's like saying we don't need stop signs, traffic lights, regulations for our roads - streets and highways. Leave the drivers alone, they know what to do. Stop impinging on their freedom and liberty. Things will run smoothly with out all of the Governmental intrusions into their private interactions on the road.

That philosophy worked really well with the financial markets, now- didn't it Kissytroll?

"is it foreign to you that working extra hours to pay taxes, fees and penalties takes away from your family and pursuit of happiness"

That is not foreign to me and my wife, she and I did not like paying high payroll taxes for the last eight years. So this last election cycle we voted for a man that reduced our payroll tax in April '09 But I never felt it was a loss of my freedom and liberty, I was never afraid to speak my mind because I was and still am free. I was free to vote for the man that reduced payroll taxes. I have the right to protest publicly if I want to. Everything worked out the way it's suppose to in a healthy Democracy.

"Typical liberal alive only for power, sex and pleasure. you're still stuck on food sex, I see, and still trying to gain favor with the terms of endearment. I still say Obama is missing out not having you as his right hand thing"

Stuck on food?.... Terms of endearment?.... what the hell are you talking about.? Your ridiculous statement about the loss of liberty and freedom in America is exaggerated delusional thinking, and completely wrong. You know that - that is why you resort to ad-homonym attacks and sweeping of the cuff right wing generalizations, about people you know nothing about, except for the fact that you don't agree with them politically.

You have consistently, in every post injected personal sexually perverted attacks that have no place in a political discussion. That has not strengthened your arguments, or proved your points. It has made you look desperate and to dumb to realize that people reading it will see that you are a perverted fool with no wit or real intelligence.

But if that is what works for you, then good luck with that Kissytroll.

Bright-as-tar-once, turn all the fruits of your labors, if any (fruits or labor) over to the government for the common good if you'd like. That common good mainly benefits the few, the most undeserving few. Some people just earn enslavement with stupidity and ignorance. If you feel like a free person spending 5 out of twelve months working for the government without your consent, and a few more months for the rest of your government, hoping to have enough left to keep your kids in a home with some utility service, and with clothes and shoes, and to save for their college, and to pay their healthcare, then by all means your a a "free" slave of the common good. On the other hand, you might be one of those jokers who works zero out of twelve months in one of the government pay to play welfare or disability schemes that suits a lard butt's idea of freedom just fine.

I know what freedom is and the ability to opt out of idiotic government waste and fraud is part of that freedom.

By the way, what Saul Alinsky's rule for radicals are you on? You've botched several, like going outside your experience on issues of freedom and liberty. Or are you just an ameteur radical? Here they are so you can be a more organized radical.

Rule 1: Power is not only what you have, but what an opponent thinks you have. If your organization is small, hide your numbers in the dark and raise a din that will make everyone think you have many more people than you do.

Rule 2: Never go outside the experience of your people.
The result is confusion, fear, and retreat.

Rule 3: Whenever possible, go outside the experience of an opponent. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.

Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. "You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."

Rule 5: Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It's hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

Rule 6: A good tactic is one your people enjoy. "If your people aren't having a ball doing it, there is something very wrong with the tactic."

Rule 7: A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues.

Rule 8: Keep the pressure on. Use different tactics and actions and use all events of the period for your purpose. "The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this that will cause the opposition to react to your advantage."

Rule 9: The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself. When Alinsky leaked word that large numbers of poor people were going to tie up the washrooms of O'Hare Airport, Chicago city authorities quickly agreed to act on a longstanding commitment to a ghetto organization. They imagined the mayhem as thousands of passengers poured off airplanes to discover every washroom occupied. Then they imagined the international embarrassment and the damage to the city's reputation.

Rule 10: The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, "Okay, what would you do?"

Rule 11: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don't try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.

                      You know Kissytroll,

I have very little idea of what the hell you were talking about on your last posting. (#1.115) That was the most convoluted gibberish you have posted to date.

You make a reference to a Saul Alinsky and write a bunch of rules that he wrote, like I know who that guy is, that is what has been most comical about you, your simplistic assumptions about me based on my posts. Guess what Kissytroll you don't have a clue, every assumption that you have made has been totally wrong. You don't know me.

                      Kissytroll said:

"It was the sexual innuendo that kept drawing you back......"

Only in your mind which unfortunately is heavy with delusional sexual perversions, my mind is reality based and I will tell you what the reality is: I have always posted my views and thoughts on the newsvine to exercise my freedom of speech and to make my small and humble contribution to the national conversation concerning topical political issues of the day. In so doing I some times have a back and forth with another poster like I had with you. The reason I have a back and forth is to respond to the poster that is communicating with me. The sexual innuendo that you kept injecting into the discussion was perverted, inappropriate and had absolutely nothing to do with the subject in discussion. I called you out on it, and pointed to the fact that you were injecting your own perverted sexual physcology into a political discussion.

You did not like the fact that I pointed it out, and were embarrassed by that simple truth and so you tried to save face by spinning it back on me saying; I was being drawn back by your perverted sexual innuendos. That's like a pervert who exposes himself in public and when the public reacts and point out the inappropriate and perverted nature of his behaviour, the pervert spins it back to the offended public by saying that they are the perverts for noticing and pointing out what he did in front of them.

Even in your last post you still had to drag up sex again, you cannot help it you are obsessed.

You make a reference to a Saul Alinsky and write a bunch of rules that he wrote, like I know who that guy is,

Let me speak for kissmyarsenal, if I may be so bold. How could you not know who the most influential man in the life of BO is? This is what I write about in other blogs about people voting who have no clue as to who their candidate is or who their opponent is and go through life uniformed and ignorant voters. Saul ALinsky is a a self avowed socialist that wrote the seminal book on liberal/socialist rebellion called Rules for Radicals. This book is the entire intellectual foundation of BO's political thought and the reason he enetered the field of "community agitation." Saul Alinsky, socialist, was dear Chairman Maobama's philisophical mentor. It is through Rules for Radicals that the socialist Alinisky tells his accolytes on how to further the socialist agenda in a country that normally would not stand for it. The election of socialist Barack Hussein Obama is, in part, due to David Axelrod and the philosophy of Saul Alinsky. Please read this book as you'll get a better picture of who the real BO really is.

It's "Piece", as in "piece of ___" for brightastaronce, "piece" being another sexual innuendo for him to ponder, a wish he'd have sex available always. Oh well, it went past.

So you don't know Saul Alinsky? That makes you an amateur radical.

This seed is about sex. That's why so many libs responded and why so many libs are interested in Palin. I'm waiting for even one lib, one neocomm, to be honest about what drives their obsession with her (sexual desire) and how their verbal abuse of Palin is a an extension of their desire to abuse all women for sexual arousal. If Palin was close enough, they'd probably be slapping her around, spouting humiliating derogatory remarks, all the while sporting a woody.

Wow, all of this is so embarrassing.

Speak for Kissmyarsenal.......or are you Kissmyarsenal?........Hmmm,,,,,,just wondering. There are so many Trolls on the vine aren't there Kissytroll.

"so you don't know Saul Alinsky, that makes you an amateur radical."

So you think I'm a radical, that makes you an ignorant, uninformed presumptuous fool.

"if palin was close enough they'd probably be slapping her around, sporting a woody."

Another fine example of Kissytrolls intelligent political commentary, and on topic as always and very informative. Now everyone that read your little Gem about slapping palin around while sporting a woody; can understand your wants and desires for Saint Sara. Like I said before, even she would be creep-ed out by you.

                        "wow this is so embarrassing"

You should be embarrassed, but your to dumb to realize that you make a complete fool of yourself with every perverted off topic comment that you post. By the way, why are you continuing the back and forth with me? I thought you "already had your way with me" apparently you can't help yourself can you. Let's try something new Kissytroll, if you respond again, try to leave out all of your off topic and perverted sexual fantasies about Saint Sara, or anyone or anything else for that matter, just make it about the topic alone. You think you can manage that? I don't think so, your to dumb and perverted. Here's your chance to prove me wrong Kissytroll, if you respond in your own name that is. Have a nice day TROLL.

But don't rest on your laurels KissyTroll; you have much more work to do, in order to completely rehabilitate yourself. You must give up your convoluted non-logic and your habit of going off on tangents. You must also abandon your practise of name calling and making off handed sweeping generalizations about people you do not know.

You have to adopt the concept of logical linear well connected thought, in order to clean up your chaotic right wing gibberish, which has infected your posts with syntactically aphasic prose.

The habitual viewing of FOX NEWS has damaged your IQ - Thus: you are only capable of right wing gibberish. The cure is simple: withdraw and stop watching FOX NEWS, you can do this by watching something that is more informative and intelligent then FOX NEWS, may I suggest perhaps, watching grass grow or paint dry.

FoxNews is an intellectual's best friend. I understand its sophistication is a turnoff for simpletons, who tend to favor CNN, MSLSB, ABC/NBC/CBS, and MTV for their news, as those kindergartennews channels cater to the left's special wants kids.

Now KissyTroll what did I tell you about name calling and off handed sweeping generalizations about folks you don't know. I understand that you are wrong and that you have the burden of trying to find strong arguments to defend your weak position. But name calling and making up insults about people you don't know, does not prove your point or make you right. All it does is make you look desperate and foolish.

"Hey, troll rhymes with parole, so we made poetry together."

There you go again, generalizing about people who don't agree with your opinions. So tell me KissyTroll, is everyone that disagrees with your point of view, a pot smoking, welfare taking convict? I'll say this for you KissyTRoll, you are not just wrong, you are consistently wrong every time. You don't have a clue.

By the way, for your information; rhyming is not poetry, rhyming is a literary device that is sometimes used in poetry, Poetry is metaphor and simile....and...........oh never mind, I give up you can't improve yourself, your excessive consumption of FOX NEWS propaganda poo has permeated your brain; with the stench of ignorance, you are incapable of cognitive coherent thoughts. The damage is complete, their is no hope for you. But on the bright side - ignorance is bliss, so waddle over to your parents refrigerator and take out another tasty food snack. Then waddle downstairs to your parents basement and plant your lard-butt onto your comfy sofa chair; grab the remote and put it on FOX NEWS suspend your thinking and thought processes and just let the FOX poo enter your mind and absorb all of their talking points as though it were all the Gospel truth.

Then afterward you can waddle over to your computer key board and Troll the websites, like a heroic Internet warrior advancing the right wing propaganda agenda. Helping to mold public opinion so that the Republicans can win back both houses in 2010. You see KissyTroll that's what poetry is, no rhyming.

                              Right back at ya!.....have fun TROLL........You betcha....wink...wink... ;-)

Finishing school. And Market surveys so she can focus on topics. Then reading up on those topics. Lots and Lots of reading about stuff that market surveys say is important. And, more difficult, thinking about the reading...maybe - face it, it's the NASCAR crowd she's going for so she doesn't have to be too deep.

If she does run in 2012 look for her head to be about 3 times its current size - like a snake digesting a meal.

But it won't work unless the finishing school is run by geniuses - masking her degree of stupid is a tall order.

Palin was first elected in 2006 on a populist platform. But her popularity has waned as she waged in partisan politics following her return from the presidential campaign.

I don't understand why she would need to "step down" now to focus on the 2012 race

Well Obama focused on his race and didn't step down as Senator which he did a very poor job at doing. If this is the case.. this was a good move. If she too busy to do the job, she did the right thing.. instead of being like Obama and campaigning around the country for years while being a Senator and not doing his job or representing this people properly like he was elected to do. He missed a ton of votes and sessions being "Mr. Celebrity". He got a paycheck for doing jack @!$%#.

                                  Obsess much?

How you could stretch this thread to make it about Obama is quite entertaining. He did well enough as a senator to have been elected President by the people in his state.

She's made some kind of statement about affecting positive change from outside government. She also said that politics had become a superficial, wasteful bloodsport, so I kind of doubt that she's gearing up for another run at the top of that system.

Goodness knows, she's made one heck of a mess of herself in the public eye. You betcha I'm not going to forget the manner in which she put herself out there, running for VP. I don't think her own party will let her forget either.

She has no one else to blame but herself; uneducated, not a public speaker, proven liar, lacks understanding of human issues & foreign policies, etc.

Palin is an extremely ambitious person. I can appreciate that quality (although I don't respect many of her methods). And if her goal is to run for office at the national level, that is her right.

However, if her reasons for resigning are to prepare for a 2010 campaign run for Senate, then she should have the courage of her convictions and respect for her constituency and say so. To avoid explaining her reasons is sheer selfishness and cowardice.

TheJonesGirl in post# 2.16 hit the nail right on the head.

Palin will make up excuses for why she resigned but the only thing we know for sure is that she resigned. Call it resignation if you want, many, including members of her own party will call it quitting. Alaska is facing some serious problems right now, the last thing they need is their elected leader quitting, for whatever reason. Palin has had problems with the press, members of her own party and her constituency in Alaska. Not everyone sees her as God's gift to conservative politics. Her viability as a candidate has been ham-stringed by her current actions.

Imagine being a political strategist and having to campaign against someone like Sarah Palin? You'd never stop letting the voting public know she quit her job when her constituents needed her leadership most. You would constantly raise the question of how she could be the Commander in Chief if she couldn't even finish her job as Governor? Every chance you got you'd be seeding questions as to how she could handle delicate foreign affairs matters if she couldn't even handle Alaskan politics, which is tame by comparison?

If she thought answering Katie Couric's question about what she reads to keep herself informed was tough, imagine trying to answer questions about why you quit your former job as Governor?

                                    Simplistic Reality @ 2.8:

A state has two senators and can get by just fine as we saw previous to Franken getting seated as Jr. Senator of Minnesota. There is only one Governor of each state and that position carry's a tremendous responsibility which Sarah Palin is giving up voluntarily.(?)

Maybe, STI, but I'll be keeping an eye on the Alaska blogs most likely to report if anything is happening. I'm thinking she may have convinced herself that if she steps down, she can get out before the next big ethics complaint hits.

She probably got sick of the rabid dogs out here snapping and snarling at nothing. Personally, if I were Michael Steele and I saw someone in the party who just makes the Dems RABID - like Palin does you "people", I'd want to keep her around just to make you foam at the mouth and say really really stupid things. (As most of the posts on this thread are.)

The lady's got a little boy who has done nothing, and who is not responsible for the deficit, or for the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, or for the price of gasoline yet Dem scum attack the little guy like he's Satan Incarnate. You're trash. Are there NO depths that you will not go to? Why don't you all crawl back into your worm holes.

If I were her, I'd quit too. Go back to being a parent, and to HELL with you all. As governor she attacked corruption in her own party - and only his corrupt buddies kept his ass out of jail. But SHE was your target! And she was exonerated COMPLETELY of EVERY ethics charge brought against her by jealous politicians and friends of corruption. Guess you prefer your politicians corrupt, eh? Enjoy. You're getting a bucket full of that in Washington DC right now. Sucks to be all of us.

Wow. You don't need to look any further than Palin supporters on this thread to see the results of thirty years of Republican anti-intellectualism. Seriously, you guys actually think quitting your elected post 18 months early with no explanation is a good career move for a local politician hoping to make it in national politics without riding on John McCain's coattails?

Democrats have been saying it all along. Guarantee Barack Obama another 4 years-- nominate Palin in 2012.

What sorts of fantasies will you be spinning if she runs and he wins? ACORN, redux? The MSM? Mean-spirited bloggers? Minority voters? Muslim terrorists conducting a DoS attack on the ballot boxes? The Red Chinese?

                                    For @!$%#'s sake. Grow up.

Bob, I asked the same thing, but I was told I "need to read" I can't find it anywhere, and noone on any of the major news networks knew anything about it, and they all asked.

I guess it's true, because she said it in her speech today

They can't source it, because it never happened

                                    KFPH,

If I'm translating from the Neocon correctly, the fact that one blogger in Alaska posted a photoshopped photo in which Trig's face had been replaced with one of Palin's bestest buddies counted as an "attack," a blasphemy (and, yes, Palin's mouthpiece used that word) the likes of which nothing but taking a dump in the Pope's hat could compare.

Fallacies, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways!

                                    1. perceived attack faux martyrdom is not martyrdom, and "perceived attacks" aren't generally attacks. Nice weasel words.
                                    2. on one of her children Despite the intent of conservatives to paint this as attacking Trig Palin, the photo in question cannot reasonably be considered to be about Trig Palin.
                                    3. malicious words have meanings. Political cartoons generally aren't considered "malicious" using the same standard we might use at a tea party... strike that... that we might use in polite company. You actually have to show some sort of intent to commit an unlawful act, harm, cause pain to, or otherwise injure for this photo to truly be malicious.
                                    4. desecration of a photo This photo is not holy, nor are such cut-and-paste political cartoons generally considered "outrageous."
                                    5. iconic representation Despite the worship of her followers, images of Sarah Palin, with or without child, are in no way "iconic." I have said this before, and conservatives have generally ignored it. The image of Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima is iconic; as are those of Kim Phuc running down a dirt road in Vietnam, covered in napalm; a sailor kissing a girl on VJ day; Martin Luther King giving his "I have a dream" speech; Oswald being shot, et cetera. This photo of Palin and child is simply the ubiquitous product of one of thousands of photo ops. It represents nothing particularly special, nor does it portray anything iconic n(like "motherly love," for instance).

Meghan can pretend that this was "apalling," "sickening," "atrocious," et cetera, ad nauseam, but in reality neither the photo nor Meghan's statement are anything other than political grandstanding.

In fact, Meghan's is a bit worse because it actually does try to capitalize on Trig's disability. Go figure.

"Some are going to question the timing of this and let me just say that this decision has been in the works for a while. In fact this decision comes after much consideration," Palin said, holding up her left index finger as she amended her thought, "Much prayer and consideration. And finally, I polled the most important people in my life, my kids. And the count was unanimous. While in response to asking, 'Hey, do you want me to be a positive influence and fight for all our children's futures from outside the governor's office?' it was four yeses and one 'Hell, yeah.' The 'Hell, yeah' sold it." (emphasis added)

Does that mean little Trig voted too? Is this kind of tally what we can look for in a future election?

I don't think that she is going to go away, look for her to be on FOX as a regular guest or/and have a talk radio spot, look out Rush she just may take away some of your audience.

so what if she's in the public eye?

If she runs for VP or Prez in the future, you think I'm going to vote for a quitter? It would be hard to convince many people to vote for a quitter.

Just because she's in the public eye doesn't equate to political success. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani --- all examples of people who are very much in the public eye. But, that doesn't automatically translate into success.

Sorry, your argument doesn't make sense.

rk6, you have noooo idea how much I dislike this ignorant woman...

When I say she will be more in the public eye...I mean it. There is more to this than we know, and there is more to come from her, she really wants that national attention...

I feel there is more to the 'ethic's' charges coming down the pike...

Also, yes, she will be considered a 'quitter', how is quitting the job of 'a governor' going to play on the national stage...I certainly wouldn't want a quitter running for President...what is going to happen if in the horrible scenario she is elected president and some bad situation happens...is she going to quit being president...I don't think so...

CNN has a few people right now saying this isn't resting well even with the GOP...they don't like quitters.

I think there is more behind the scenes than we know...there is something going on. And, perhaps legitimately she could have been given an 'offer she couldn't refuse'...

I'm with 3 sheets, here. It's awfully early to step down for a 2012 run (and, as others said, she now looks like a "quitter"). I don't see her going away, though. Wasn't her original "dream" to be a news anchor? Maybe she's been offered a deal somewhere for a show - TV/radio?

My husband is wondering if maybe she's got some other ethics problems out there and has been asked to just go away and they'll be kept quiet. NOT SAYING THAT'S HAPPENED!!

BTW wasn't it some of you ALL who said those on the right are just looking to find something to complain about with Obama (which, you don't have to look hard - for instance the firing of the Inspector General who called out his buddy Kevin Johnson who was misusing gov't funds, among many, many others). that busness about "lame duck" is BS... that is when you can pretty much do as you want and get things done... but how can she do that when she is never in the state.

and she does not give a crippled crap about her family.

She wanted something to get the news off of Sanford and Michael Jackson, and even took the time to remind the press about the picture of Trigg....

and may I say... I KNEW IT... I knew she would find a way to belly ache some more.... most people did not see that damn picture or what Letterman said until she complained.

According to comments made from all political affiliated news stations, she is looking to start touring and raising $$ to run come 2012...YIKES!

Don't think she'll make it and if she does hell will have frozen over.

Personally, I think she got the taste of more power, more publicity, and the lime light (freebies too) her mini show provided her and she cannot stand being locked down in her sweet, Alaskan hometown.

She's star struck & starry eyed and has a serious desire to leave her not so glamorous or uneventful lifestyle she's been having to exist in since her demise.

I think it is possible she is "starstruck" as some have suggested but I really never bought into that, at least not to the extreme it has become.

I think it is just as likely the book deal allows her to keep her "fame" and have financial freedom as well. Legal battles can be a constant drain on one's life.

I think she may actually be waving a white flag here but I also thought McCain would throw her overboard, so...

There's no smoking gun. She has made herself a national figure and now she is able to cash in on her name recognition. NYC's Rudy Giuliani has done the same and it has fattened his wallet considerably.

She will earn far more money in the private sector than she ever could as a public servant. Can't say I blame her, as she has a large family to support.

OMG - Sanford is a whack job. He isn't quitting because King David didn't quit, then he goes on about his mistress and what a loving relationship it was a minute after he says he and his wife are working on rebuilding trust.

This is the guy who wanted Clinton impeached for Monica. Monica catered in at no cost, and Sanford was going thousands of miles and paying thousands of dollars for his "tryst." Why arent' the holy Christian South Carolina GOP politicians calling for his skin? Suddenly, it's a "family situation" and we need to respect Mark and his wife. There was no respect for e President Clinton and his family.

Republicans are such incredible hypocrites. Their ethics are extremely elastic.

The AP writer only included Sanford and other scandals to try to tar Palin with the same brush. Judging by the comments above, it seems to have worked.

I see little difference, though, between Sanford and Edwards or Clinton, except in the media coverage. Amusing that the National Enquirer scooped the LA Times on the Edwards case, even though LAT was shutting down speculation by readers of their blog. As for Bill and Monica, the issue was Bill's perjury in the sexual harassment case of Paula Jones.

Republicans and Democrats are people. Each has his/her imperfections, some worse than others.

Getting back to Palin, I think it's as likely that she wants to be a stay-at-home mom as doing a "reality TV" show. Given the dearth of details, it could also be that there's some personal tragedy, such as cancer, that she needs to deal with without having to put up with hateful commentary such as Letterman's comment that her 14 year-old got "knocked-up by A-rod".

                                        @estela2008

What does she think a presidential campaign is--a cheerleaders competition?

Take it to the rim and jam it, "estela!" How the hell is she gonna justify running for President & handling a country and she can't stay in the Governor's job and serve just one state? The door hit her in 2008 when Couric & voters slammed dunk she & McCain. She is an imbecile. She does not know how to take a hint. Go away! Shoo fly!!

OMG how desperate are the republicans - it's only 2009! They're already gearing up to fight in 2012 and they don't even know what they'll be up against. I mean, besides Obama - but they'd look stupid to start criticizing so early - oh wait, they already are - and of course, stupid and republican aren't mutually exclusive.

(yes, I used to be a republican, so I can say that)

Is that a problem? Seems to me that Democrats were pushing for Obama after his speech before he was even a US Senator, weren't they? And he made it too.

Howard Dean needs to comment on Sarah Palin and so he shall. As follows:

"Hypocrisy is a value that I think has been embraced by the Republican Party. We get lectured by people all day long about moral values by people who have their own moral shortcomings".

Nobody has to "dis" Saint Sara, she does that all by herself.

As for Saint Sara going: "all the way to Washington" Nope! I don't think so.

It's true that there are a size-able minority of Palin Lovers, but not enough to get her to the white house, as was plainly evident in the 2008 Presidential election. I've said it before and I'll say it again; I know Saint Sara is real purr-tee and all, but she is not Presidential material. She is George Bush in a skirt, and it would be another disaster for America if she were to be elected president, she would finish what George the buffoon started - the destruction of our country with incompetent maleficence, cronyism and a disrespect for our Constitution and certain parts of America. She brings nothing but divisiveness and incompetence.

To all of you Palin worshippers, I am sorry to have to tell you the bad news, the only place Saint Sara can really go is, on television - she would be an excellent traffic or maybe weather reporter.

You must know what to read and comprehend to perform those jobs. She may join the voice of the GOP, Lumpybaugh & he & she can just rush straight to Buenos Aires, Argentina with Governor Mark Sanford and get a taste of honey and share a marga-maria. Hm. Most candidates keep their current positions during presidential bids, if nothing else than to look responsible enough to carry things on multiple plates. If this is her move to spend more time prepping for 2012, it doesn't seem like a very sound strategic decision.

Most candidates keep their current positions during presidential bids, if nothing else than to look responsible enough to carry things on multiple plates.

True, but the positions of most candidates tend to be in the continental US. Having to continually fly back to Alaska would have been a liability for her, while waiting longer to do it would have made it look less like a reasoned decision than she was being overburdened.

That all said, the quick timing of this does seem super off, and I wonder what's going to be the next shoe to drop…

'She did say in her speech that she feels she can be more effective working outside of government'.

Ms Palin said her decision came after much 'prayer and consideration'.

She said she did not want to waste time on 'political blood sport' and cited public criticism of her actions and her family since the 2008 campaign.

The Republicans are full of punching bags.

Bobby Jindal, Sanford are just 2 examples.

Don't worry, we'll find enough punching bags in the republican party.

The GOP is the gift that keeps giving so plenty of folks around for us 'looney left' to continue to mock: Jindhal, Sanford, Limbaugh, Darth Vader, Karl Rove - waxing eloquent on Faux News and lecturing about morality (that was good for a belly laugh), the Triplets on Fox and Friends, Steele, eye of Newt (like Rove, great for a laugh when he is talking about morality and family and other), Michelle Malkin, the great Christian Laura Ingram (so christ like it's almost scary), Michael Savage (another stalwart christian and so full of good information), magic underpants wearing and again - BIG christian - crazy person Glenn Beck, OMG can't forget Michele Bachmann, Joe the Plumber, Buchanan, so many more....the right in general gives up a lot of funny material, or at least it would be funny if it weren't so scary.

Palin has Borderline Personality Disorder with secondary Narcisism Disorder - she is not going away - she will make her run for some other office perhaps POTUS and lose by a mile. She will give years of jokes and scandals and lies and etc etc etc. She believes her own myths that she is important, smart, has the ear of GOD, etc so not likely to go away any time soon.

We're all human. You right wingers do it too. Don't pretend as if you're all innocent & don't pick on L.L. either. You constantly blame big government, the media, etc. You do the same things too. This is basic human psychology 101. So, folks on here admit to being the L.L? I don't consider all who critisize Conservatives or Republicans as "the L.L". Those who attack any and all who disagree with them, using any tactic (including lying) to destroy the target (including the children of said targets) .There are those on the Right who do the same, and I call them evil nuts as well. There is a proper place for discussion on differring views - the L.L. and L.R. are not part of it. If some folks on here want to be part of the Looneys, so be it - just don't include me or those who disagree fairly without picking targets to destroy as part of it.

I said! I said! That woman is wacky, a sicko and the most inept person McCain stumbled upon. Falin Palin thrust her family into the spot light for her own personal satisfaction. She tried to hide Bristol's pregnancy but was un-able to. Because of all the lies she put out there for the public sort of glorifying her family; she opened up every criticism imaginable towards her family; especially Bristol & Levi. She exploits her kids to continue keeping the "search light" on herself when the faulty light bulb diminishes in her head and she is afraid it will flicker out. She doesn't care about her kids. They are just live bait for her to get any news media to bite and put her in the headline news. Alaskans should throw a party. Wacko, Falin Palin is history....negative history at its best. I am celebrating with you , Alaska.

janice - So, what lies did Palin put out there about her family? Did she immediately tell the press her daughter was pregnant as soon as she found out - of course not - who does that? As for her family - every politician has a family they don't normally hide from the press. The anti-Palin media and anti-Palin loons took it upon themselves to attack the children. There is no excuse for that.

Besibug - not referring to lies about her family - I wouldn't know about it if she did. As an aside, I find it pretty galling that she took the kids out of school and everywhere with her and put them on stage, bought them clothes with the GOP makeover, etc and then complains that the kids are being talked about. I personally think the kids should be left alone - that includes comments from the right (like calling Amy Carter a 'dog', Rush's comments on Chelsea, etc)

Her lies were about the 'thanks but no thanks' on the bridge when in fact she supported it all the way until it died in the house, her talking about not wanting so called 'pork' when in fact she left Wasilla in huge debt and took millions and millions of federal $$ for a town of 6500.

The anti-Palin rhetoric is harsh at times but for me - someone who proudly campaigned and voted for President Obama - what I have heard from the right and leaders of the GOP and talking pundits about him and his family (from a commentator for Faux News calling Michelle Obama 'trash' to comparing Obama to Hitler, to wanting to change the name of my party to Socialist Democratic Party, to cartoons of police officers shooting President Obama who is portrayed as a monkee, to a Baptist Minister calling for the death of President Obama in prayer (once his prayers for Dr Tiller were answered) to every minute of every day on Fox spent trashing every decision he's made or is trying to make.

So yeah, both the left and the right trash talk but for me as a serious political junkie, I see much much much more of it on the right.

The discourse in this country is in the crapper and we have people who can call for the death of the president or who can advocate for another terrorist attack (Glen Beck and guest) as a way to 'get his attention' to an ex- vice president who proves every day that he is a sociopathic liar and revisionist without class.

We have to monitor ourselves and behave like adults. I am against Palin for many many reasons - her ignorance of real people, real life, real information, her religiosity tarnishing everything she does, her anti abortion stance, her belief in Creationism, her denial of environmental issues being caused and worsened by our insatiable need for oil, etc. I see her as a truly uneducated and completely unqualified for any national office but particularly POTUS or VP.

Anyone who attacks others in unethical ways to destroy them for merely disagreeing with them is the L.L. OR L.R. That is who I am talking about. I hope there are no folks on this board that fall into that catagory.

If you are referring to Failin Palin...no one dis-agrees with her. She has not said anything of substance to agree or dis-agree with. She is a lunatic. She craves attention and will exploit her family by any means necessary to garner that spotlight . She is shallow. Palin abuses Palin. The GOP created this monster and I hope they come up with someone with a great deal of intelligence & respect for themselves who does not run to the media for attention. I hope the GOP is serious about wanting the white house back in 2012. There are far more formidable women in this country in politics and whom are not in politics that can contribute greatly in being a front-runner for the GOP. Palin is not one of those women. As for children of any politician, no matter what party; no one should attack them....they should be off limits. As for L.L or L.R.............whatever you think I am, Go For It!!

Watching a rerun of this press conference. She is gasping for breath! I know she never sounded very sincere, always snide and nasty, but this is bizarre. She is rushing through this and taking jabs at everyone. This is an angry woman who is acting like she has been forced to do this.

Why is she not finishing her term and then focusing on 2012? There is a BIG story out there that is going to drop soon. There is no way she would walk away from this voluntarily she is too ambitious. Less than one term as governor of Alaska and a proven lack of intellect? Not really what we need in a presidential candidate.

She knows it. I betting she will be signing a big multi-year contract with FOX next week, before the other shoe drops.

My speculation is that she has decided she can make a lot more private money in the private sector. Right now she is just hanging out there on a limb with an ethics commission and a legislature and a state senator checking in what she is doing with state money in Wasilla and Juneau. If she is going to get beat with a stick up north why not just pack it up and move south. Shorter flights, closer proximity to national media and national power and some big, if not guaranteed money in the world of political deal and odds making.

This is a big deal. She is stepping down from a position to which she was elected. Wow.

She is a very ambitious person.

It was a good choice for her to step down. The way she has been attacked has cost her,and her family extreme amounts of money to fight. If she choices to run in 2012 I wish her luck but don't feel it would be good for her or her family. By stepping down the state can now get back to the business of running the state.

The best argument for Democrats in her presidential run will be:

"Why should the American people vote for you as their president when you quit the last job they were kind enough to elect you to?"

Then she'll blame the "Gotcha" media for asking a "tricky" question and bat her beauty pageant eyes at the camera and hope to God we all buy it. We won't...

McCain had the worst Senate attendance record in the 110th Congress (Jan 2007 - Dec 2008), having missed 420 out of Senate 657 votes cast, or 63.9%.

The second-worst 110th Senate attendance record was held by Tim Johnson (D-SD), who suffered a brain hemorrhage on Dec. 13, 2006 and spent several months recovering. Johnson missed 311 votes, or 47.3%.

Obama came in third, with 303 votes missed, or 46.3%.

When Obama was not running for president his attendance record was much higher. During the 109th Congress (Jan 2005 - Dec 2006), Obama missed 11 of the 645 Senate votes cast, or 1.7%. McCain missed 58 votes in the 109th Congress, or 9.0%; the fifth-worst attendance record in the 109th Congress.

For all intents and purposes, BO acted like a lame duck senator the minute he was sworn in as senator in 2004. Not only did he fail to represent his constituants by runninjg around the country campaigning for POTUS he cashed all his paychecks like he was a full time senator actually working on Illinois business. The question really is what did he do in those six years? What major piece of legislation did he help create? For that matter, what did he even bother to write? BO ran for senator and for two years worked for his Illinois constituants. For four years he quit his job in the senate and ran for president. But the libs see BO's quitting as par for the course for running for president. Well, it seems that Sarah palin resigned her job to maybe run for president in four years. This, however, the libs are "outraged." It is the same liberal double-speak that they are world famous for.

okay, I'll do one better. Libs are so "concerned" about the lives of terrorists, vis a vis waterboarding, yet nonchalant abort aborting a baby. Now that is the pentultimate double speak there ever is. There is nothing you can cite that is more hypocritical than that. And what is so pathetic about this is that libs do not care. They simply hurl insults in a retort but the fact that cannot be denied is that you choose one life over another and not only don't you see this you say to yourself, "its a fetus not a baby." Now, once a human life is devalued to just a lump of flesh and not a baby, you can sleep better at night. The truth is they are both precious lives yet you only see one.

Both are the laws of the land and on the books, don't like them change them. Why hasn't any Republican president/SCOTUS ever turn back the Roe V Wade decision yet you hate abortion under any circumstances? That's hypocrisy.

It's hypocracy that I don't personally get the GOP to help overturn Roe v Wade? How is what a political party does or does not do any relevence on me? I would love for that highly flawed decision to be overturned. I know I am a popular person amongst my peers; however, I don't think I can sway the powers that be to overturn Roe v Wade all by my lonesome. And as for abortion under any circumstances I am, as every conservative I am aware of, cognizant that rape, the health of mother and incest as exceptions. So, where is this hypocracy that you speek of?

What do you want me to do, burn down an abortion clinic? You think that is fighting hypocrisy? Aside from voting for a conservative that I think will change Roe v Wade and maybe picketing something like Planned Parenthood and the occasional abortion clinic, I am not sure what you think I can or should do. I think you might want to come with another example because this one you came up with just doesn't make any sense.

Ah yes the death penalty vs abortion quandry. On the face there does seem to be a double standard. However, let us break down the characters at play. On the one hand we have the product of a man and woman, the baby, that has done nothing wrong. And then you have some scumbag that has been found guilty by a jury of his/her peers of some heinous, vicious crime. The taking the life of an innocent baby does not equate as the same as the taking the life of a convicted murderer. You see this as hypocrisy; I see this as justice.

On that I agree with you 100%. Everytime I vote for a conservative I expect some action that would overturn Roe v Wade. So far it has only been lip service. One of the most fundamental issues I have with Roe v Wade is that this is a state issue, yet the federal SCOTUS ruled on it. Yes I am against abortion; however, if individual states want to legislate anti/pro abortion law than it is up to those state to live with the consequences. Anyway, the GOP has indeed been vocal against abortion although they have done nothing meaningful to overturn this flawed decision. Either they better figure out how best to proceed or the GOP will continue to lose membership.

We are probably closer than you think. I do not agree that abortion be used as a birth control method, but on the other hand I do believe that it CAN be used in certain circumstances where as rape, incest and the health of the mother and or child is involved. To blanket abortion in every circumstance as the Republicans advocate is just wrong. Would , for the sake of argument deny you daughter if she were to be raped and carry the child full term when the thoughts she had be detrimental to the heath of the child and mother? Do you see what I mean? We are not that far apart. I am just against a blanket law forbidding it all together. As I believe most liberals are, actually probably most Republicans are too. That is one reason that the Republicans have not rescinded the law. The other is that I believe that most Americans would not either. But then again this is IMO. It has been a pleasure to discuss this with you. Friends request sent, and I hope to engage you in the future.

No argument here but I'm not sure that it is a correct statement. As far as I know, I have always understood abortion was condoned for incest, rape and health of child/mother. I am speaking for only those conservatives that would agree that abortion is acceptable under those conditions.

Well, like her or hate her she has the ability to communicate very effectively with the "masses" of people living in red states....(many who don't have jobs) she can rally the troops and the Republicans have very few people like her. She does not have to run for President to be effective in influencing the mid-term elections in 2010....critical for the Democrats to hold onto power. If there is a major change Obama is "toast" and will be effectively neutered. Right now all the responsibilities for the economy and job creation lies with Democrats...all the Republicans have to do is sit on the sidelines and HOPEFULLY control their members and stop having stupid personal scandals!

Palin will probably not run for President but she can work within the political power structure on the inside and maintain a lower profile. She is actually helping the Party by getting out of Alaska where she is stuck with local responsibilities. Since Alaska is in very good financial shape she is not leaving her people without a leader at a bad time....don't imagine the people will hold it against her.

Liberals?....be careful for what you have wished for....things are going to get a LOT worse for all of us including government workers..the recession is only in the 3rd inning of a very long ball game. Next year we will begin to face higher inflation, higher home energy prices and the list goes on and on.....but where are the jobs? Obama feels sorry for us but is that all he can do? Taxes? They are coming, hidden of course...but will stop consumer spending even more....more layoffs....are we riding a carousel???????

The most likely person to run in 2012 will be Romney....he is a businessman and since the economy will be in shambles by that time and people will be very frustrated and disappointed in what the Democrats promised as reform and change he has a good chance of coming back....just a thought but of course anything can happen between now and then. But since it takes a couple of years to get a politician off the ground, Romney has name recognition and a clean wholesome personal life. Don't count him out.

I think so as well. The dems choose a bad time to make the entrance. I think we will see the the Carter Regan change over. Romney will step in proclaiming supply side and such and the public will take it. The scary thing is if this happens this will be the shortest lived demand side and consumer advocacy stint we will have seen in a long time.

Well, like her or hate her she has the ability to communicate very effectively with the "masses" of people

I disagree, she has the ability to reguritate crap a few extremist like to hear. She has no national appeal sufficient to win the GOP nomination, let alone to beat Obama in 2012.

Obama is sliding down Capital Hill already. He'll be lucky if he and his party can keep this train wreak of a presidency together. We have a no nothing in office and that's scarey. We'll be luck to have a country in 2012.

She could be setting up to run for the Alaska senate seat in 2010. She could realize she's not up to the job of Governor. She might be eyeing the 2012 National race. She might do this, she might do that... Whatever Sarah Palin chooses to do it will be unorthodox and maverick like. Wait and see. She is still in the news and will continue to be simply by being outside the box.

That's the problem with your argument: "whatever she chooses to do".

The problem with that is, it's too late for her to be deciding now. She's already been thrown into the public eye. Your positive attitude is very naive; the american public isn't stupid; they're not going to vote for a quitter.

You're right; she can choose what she wants, but she has to complete a task. Otherwise, it looks very flaky.

rk61979--That's the point--her whatevers are limited. Her behavior seems to indicate that she is getting very bad direction from her political future advisors. No one will vote for a quitter and that is exactely what Palin appears to be, today. I am not supporting her in the least. I may have been excited that she was a candidate, then she opened her mouth. Dang me, missed it by that much.

she knows what she wants and will go for it.Why did she make a trip overseas to see what it was like around Iraq. read some where on the computer she made that trip. So why if she was going to step down from the Gov. job.In less the other shoe is about to drop and this is a way to get them not to drop It just doesn't make since . Took her 6 years and I believe 3 colleges before she even got a degree in journalism.Which is a simple one to get. But if going to go around talking to other country's I really wish she would learn how to speak proper English.

Probably because she knew it was her last chance to get an exotic trip paid for by somebody else. (Who DID pay for that trip, anyway?)

Giving up the best job she'll ever have. Well, public office wise anyway. I am sure she can do quite well on the lecture circuit for awhile if she wanted to. People will may money to see ANYTHING.
