ND thief leaves note, advises car owner to lock up

advertisement

FARGO — A man said it's a tough way to learn a lesson but he's a lot wiser. Someone made off with Mark Neary's driver's license and other items from his unlocked car early Wednesday, and left a message behind. Neary said he found a note telling him he had "amazing taste" in music.

The note said the thief had taken credit cards and his driver's license and advised him to "lock your car in the future."

Neary said it could have been worse. The keys were in the ignition and the thief could have driven off with his car.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

You just gotta chuckle at some of the things people do. Perhaps the note will turn the case into one of the 'dumbest criminals'.

Sounds like it should be one of the "most considerate criminals." Robbed the guy and lectured him at the same time. This would happen in a place like Fargo.

Maybe next time he should make sure he locks up. I live in the middle of nowhere and I make sure every night that my car is locked, my house doors are locked and every window is locked....people should take an example from Fort Knox and make sure you're secure.

Being from a very small town in Iowa (in the 60s, our family of 7 put the population over the 100 mark LOL), I can tell you, from experience, that after years of not worrying about the boogie man it comes very hard to break those habits. My foster-father still lives there and he forgets to take his keys out of the ignition all of the time when he comes to the city to see us. It saddens me that we have to live in a Fort Knox type environment. Of course, there's much to be said about locks .. they do only keep the lazy criminals out, all others ... if there's a will there's a way. Too bad they don't put that energy into a job!

Yup, same as with the small town I'm from. Reading this article reminded me of an incident I seen on one of those 'stupid criminal' shows. The car thief stopped to ask for directions but it just so happened that the guy he asked was the car owner's father! LOL.
