Maples resigns as Post-Dispatch managing editor

— St. Louis Post-Dispatch managing editor Pam Maples has announced her resignation after nearly three years in the job. Her last day will be Aug. 18.

In a story posted Friday on the newspaper's Web site, STLtoday.com., Maples said in a note to the staff, "Sometimes, it's just time to do something new." She said she's not certain what she will do next but that she's "eager to explore some new ideas and avenues."

Post-Dispatch Editor Arnie Robbins says he's accepted the resignation reluctantly and won't fill the position.

Robbins says Maples has agreed to do some projects for the newspaper and STLtoday.com over the next couple months, probably including research of paid online models.
