NEW YORK — DVD players that could catch fire, a child's bicycle trailer with a faulty wheel and a ceiling fan that could come crashing down on your head are among the recalled products this week.
Those items were recalled along with a couple of food items including a Mexican-style soft cheese product that could be contaminated with Listeria and a wheat-free pancakes that might contain undeclared wheat, gluten, milk and egg.

PRODUCT: Black and Decker thermal coffee makers, made in China and distributed by Applica Consumer Products Inc. of Miramar, Fla. The recalled models are 8-cup programmable coffee makers sold at Wal-Mart and small retail stores nationwide from April 2008 through last month.
HOW MANY: About 9,000
WHY: The coffee makers can overheat and melt, posing a burn hazard. The company has received one report of a coffee maker melting. No injuries have been reported.

PRODUCT: Shop Fox dust collection remote switches, made in China by Woodstock International, of Bellingham, Wash. The recall involves a remote dust collector switch, which remotely turns on and off a woodworking dust collector. The recalled products were sold at woodworking stores nationwide from July 2008 through June this year.
HOW MANY: About 450
WHY: An incorrectly sized wire can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The company has received 10 reports of the remote switch overheating. No injuries have been reported.

PRODUCT: 2009 d'lite ST and Solo ST two-wheeled child trailers designed to be hitched to bicycles. They have serial numbers starting with D939 or D948. The serial number is located behind the seat on the lower left rear frame tube. The products say "d'lite ST" or "solo ST" on the cover. The trailers were sold by bike and specialty outdoor retailers nationwide and on the Internet from November 2008 through June 2009 for between $550 and $600. They were manufactured in the Philippines
HOW MANY: About 2,700
WHY: A sleeve inside the axle assembly can loosen, causing one wheel to come off the trailer, risking injury to the child or bike rider. No injuries have been reported.

PRODUCT: Van's Wheat-Free Homestyle Pancakes, manufactured by Van's International Foods of Vernon, Calif. The 12.4-ounce packages have lot number 200060629B1 and a "best if used by" date of March 30, 2010. They were sold at retail outlets nationwide.
HOW MANY: 1,416 boxes
WHY: They contain undeclared wheat, gluten, milk and egg. People who have allergies or sensitivities to wheat, gluten, milk or eggs may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

PRODUCT: Durabrand DVD players, which were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2006 through July 2009. They were made in China and imported by Wal-Mart. The recall involves a single DVD player with a remote control. The silver-colored electronic device has a U-shaped opening at the top to insert the DVD.
HOW MANY: About 1.5 million
WHY: They can overheat, which poses as a fire and burn hazard to consumers. Wal-Mart said it has received 12 reports of the DVD players overheating, including the five reports that resulted in fires.

WHY: The product might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the Passaic, N.J., company.
