NEW YORK — Drug developer Sanofi-Aventis says it will close its Kansas City, Mo., plant by 2012, citing a decline in demand for products made at the site.
The plant makes solid dose forms of oral medications, including the seasonal allergy medication Allegra-D. It employs 370 people.
Alain Peychaud, head of manufacturing for Sanofi-Aventis' pharma solids operations, said in a statement Friday that the site has an excellent performance record and strong community support.
But he says a "strong decline in demand" drove the decision to close it.
The process for closing the site will take more than two years. More details will be provided by the end of November.
