WASHINGTON — A week after the planned speech first drew controversy, President Barack Obama is delivering an address to the nation's schoolchildren.

He and Education Secretary Arne Duncan will host a group discussion Tuesday with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Va., before the president speaks to students nationwide through C-SPAN television. He'll be discussing the importance of students working hard, staying in school and taking responsibility for their success.

Back in Washington, Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will attend a Supreme Court investiture ceremony for its newest justice, Sonia Sotomayor.

Later, the president meets with congressional leaders and welcomes professional golf champions to the White House.

Well, finally there's something he's good at - taking time off. If we could just get congress to follow his example we might get our country back.

OK People

When I heard that today's top story from the White House press room was "Swine Flu", I naturally assumed the Obamas were aboard Air Force One and headed for another vacation...

I think all parties of this country would agree on one thing. He should not be taking a "long weekend" off with everything going on in this country. Again, he shows just how arrogant he is, what he wants to do he will do. And most people dont question him.

Hopefully, that wont be the case with healthcare reform. Something like that should take 1-2 yrs to perfect. Not 5 months.

What planet am I on? Is it the same planet on which our former President used to take the entire month of August - while Congress was out of session - to go to Crawford and cut down trees?

Obama took about a week and a half in Martha's Vineyard and at Camp David...but he also brought his work home with him (e.g., today's speech). It was his first time off since January 20.

We wouldn't expect him to stay in DC for a whole week, would we? Why do those who criticized Bush for his time off make excuses for Obama?

Sort of different giving a speech and being unavailable but don't let facts stop your rhetoric.

    c anderson...

Why do those who criticized Bush for his time off make excuses for Obama?

Because when Bush took time off, he really took time off...we never heard from him. We merely saw video of him cutting down trees.

Throughout his ten or so days of "vacation," Obama has been working...meeting with the progressive caucus in Congress, conducting conference calls with Senators, and giving today's speech.

I can't stand it when my boss thinks his job is so important that he has to keep emailing me during his vacations...but I don't give the President the same pass. Yes, Obama's been "off" of work, but he's actually been working...Bush took a different angle.

I don'tunderstandwhy people can't just be even handed. You nor I know what Bushwas doing besides clearing brush. I don't fuss about Obama going out for ice cream.

The truth is, no President really gets any time off. They are on duty 24/7 no matter where they are.

The media and the left makes excuses for him because he's a minority, in my view. I am a minority and I could care less what that loser does on his time off. But what I am sick of his the media trying to portray his as a common man in the white house. I thought the electoral college whole purpose was to prevent the American people from electing somebody like Bozo the clown.

The poplular vote is the way to tell how well a candidate does. Obama has been a politician all of his adult years. So he is good at spending taxpayers money and living off of taxpayers money/.
