Macy's, AMD, Citigroup, New York Times big movers

NEW YORK — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE:

Macy's Inc., up 98 cents at $18.77

A Citigroup analyst upgraded the department chain, saying she's optimistic about localized offerings at stores and sees improved margins.

FactSet Research Systems Inc., up $5.31 at $67.66

Shares hit a 12-month high after the financial research provider's fourth-quarter profit rose and its outlook beat expectations.

Citigroup Inc., up 22 cents at $4.65

A Singapore sovereign wealth fund cut its stake in the bank to below 5 percent, the level it had planned on before a recent debt exchange.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc., up 27 cents at $6.08

The European Union revealed its evidence of strong-arm sales tactics by rival chip maker Intel Corp. after setting a record antitrust fine.

AMR Corp., down 59 cents at $8.44

Plans to sell 30 million new shares as part of a $500 million capital raise are dilutive, but mean the airline is likelier to avoid bankruptcy.

CarMax Inc., up $1.87 at $21.20

Higher sales and a gain related to the car dealership chain's auto financing businesses drove second-quarter profit higher.

New York Times Co., up 21 cents at $8.37

Hedge fund Harbinger Capital Partners LLC sold 5 million shares of the newspaper company, leaving it with a 16.4 percent stake.

NASDAQ:

VeriChip Corp., up 83 cents at $3.63

The radio-frequency identification system maker was granted an exclusive license to patents related to a swine flu detection system.
