KUALA LUMPUR — R&B star Beyonce Knowles has postponed a planned concert in Malaysia, the event's organizer said Monday, following accusations by Islamic conservatives that the show would be immoral.

Knowles, known for her provocative clothes and choreography, had been scheduled to perform at a Kuala Lumpur stadium Oct. 25. The show "has been postponed to a future date to be announced shortly," Malaysian entertainment company Marctensia said in a statement.

"The postponement is solely (the) decision of the artist and has nothing to do with other external reasons," the statement said.

A Marctensia representative declined to say whether the decision was prompted by criticism from the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, the country's largest opposition group, which has called for the show to be scrapped because it would promote "Western sexy performances."

Knowles also canceled a planned performance in Malaysia in 2007 following protest threats by the opposition Islamic party. At the time, her talent agency said the show was called off due to a scheduling conflict.

Instead, Knowles went to Indonesia, also a largely Muslim country, which has less stringent rules about how performers should dress and behave. Female artists at Malaysian concerts are required by government rules to cover up from the shoulders to knees, with no cleavage showing.

Last month, Marctensia addressed concerns that Knowles might wear inappropriate outfits, saying "all parties have come to an amicable understanding" about stage costumes.

Other female pop stars such as Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani have performed in Malaysia despite similar protest threats by conservative Muslims. Both singers wore clothes that revealed little skin.

Some entertainment industry officials say the strict regulations and frequent controversies have discouraged many international artists from visiting Malaysia.

Oh friggin well. I wish she would cancel all of her shows in the US. The people of Malaysia will hopefully be saved from her sub-par music and pedestrian singing voice. If only the rest of us were so lucky....

Her music is not subpar IMO, and if you're holding out for another Ella Fitzgerald, sorry, but they broke the mold.

All in all, I like Beyonce and I think she handles herself with class and dignity.

      Just one question:

If Beyonce didn't look like she looks (and she is indeed absolutely beautiful), would she be a "Superstar"?

Perhaps Beyonce clearly understands that her status on the world entertainment stage has a lot to do with her looks, and therefore a concert with Beyonce which included conservative costume changes would bore everyone to tears?

She has one slow song, one club song, and one love song. Thats it. This last album sounded EXACTLY like the one before. She's not a stronger singer and her lyrics are shaky at best.

There are much better female artists out there, but Beyonce gets all of the hype because of her looks and the fact that she hakes her a$$ all over the stage. Thats it.

So what? The issue here is that music should be about song and voice. Then again, we all know that video killed the radio star in 1981 or so, and Beyonce is a prime example of this issue.

Like I say above, she is indeed beautiful, no denying that.

Realistically any women who parades her body as Beyonce, does not have much dignity. Do not get me wrong I would proabaly be the first person on the couch to view her perform on TV. But I wouldn't want my mother, sister, daughter nor wife exposing her goodies as does Beyonce, and if I had a chance I would tell Beyounce she beautiful but exposing your form and figure should be reserveed for JZ.
