BERLIN — Germany's Lutheran Church has elected a woman to lead the nation's Protestants for the first time in its history.

Margot Kaessmann was overwhelmingly voted into the church's top position on Wednesday.

The 51-year-old bishop holds a doctorate in theology and has four grown children. She is one of only two women to serve as bishop in Germany's Protestant church.

She was ordained in 1985 and has held many offices within the church. Kaessmann is viewed as being politically active and media savvy.

The more desperate organized religions become the more moderate they pretend to be.

This is another one of thos "stories with an agenda" that make today's politicized, anti-religious mainstream media the people we know and love (sarcasm). For God's sake (pun inttended), it is not even the UNITED STATES. No, the outrageous nature of this story is NOT that it is "reported", but that it is FEATURED as a major story. There can't be any LESS significant "news" story today. My reaction to this "news" can be summarized in two words: "Who cares?"

By the way, one of the major news stories of our time is the DECLINE of "mainline" Protestant religions, and even the Catholic Church, and the RISE of "fundamentalist", evangelical Christian churches. But that is a story in which the mainstream media has no interest, as mainstream "journalists" have no interest in evngelicals--EXCEPT to feature them in a NEGATIVE light, or to feature some evangelical church adopting what "journalists" regard as the "right" kind of religion (welcoming homosexuals, sex, or whatever). I am an agnostic myself, and therefore I am probably only 99% better informed on--and tolerant of--religion than mainstream "journalists", rather than 1000%.
