— Mild weather was expected over the Central U.S. as light showers continued over the Great Lakes on Wednesday.
A weak low pressure system was forecast to track eastward from the Upper Midwest and move into the Great Lakes. Flow around this system could create a cold front and push into the Upper and Mid-Mississippi Valley while sweeping through the Central Plains.
Not much moisture was expected to be associated with this system, so no significant rainfall was expected. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain could sprinkle over the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley, while the rest of the front was expected to produce patchy clouds.
The northern regions could see highs in the 50s, while temperatures in the Southeast could reach into the 70s again on Wednesday. High pressure was expected to build in behind this system and allow for mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures.
Temperatures in the Northern Plains could approach the 60s, while the Southern Plains were expected to remain in the 70s. Cool overnight low temperatures could accompany this system again on Wednesday as clear skies were expected to allow for drastic nighttime cooling.
The Northern Plains could see lows near freezing, as the Central and Southern Plains were forecast to see another chilly night in the 40s.
Ahead of the front, in the Tennessee Valley and Mid-Atlantic States, cool conditions were expected. Freeze warnings were to remain in effect for the region as lows could dip into the 30s Wednesday night.
The Northeast may see a mix of snow and rain as the front approaches from the west, but no significant precipitation was anticipated over the region.
In the West, a low pressure system was expected to approach the Pacific Northwest but not yet reach the region. Thus, the West Coast could see another sunny and warm day on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from a low of 12 degrees at Kremmling, Colo. to a high of 98 degrees at East Mesa, Ariz.
