Minnesota teen who fled chemo now cancer-free

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota teen who fled the state to avoid chemotherapy has finished his cancer treatment.

Daniel Hauser of Sleepy Eye underwent his final radiation session Friday, and his family says the 13-year-old is cancer-free.

Daniel gained national attention when he stopped treatment after one session in February and fled, citing his religious beliefs. After he returned, he underwent court-ordered chemo to treat Hodgkin's lymphoma, then started radiation therapy.

Family spokesman Dan Zwakman tells KSTP-TV everything is going as planned. A call to the family's home from The Associated Press rang unanswered Saturday.

A Brown County judge has asked for reports from Brown County Family Services and Daniel's doctor. If everything looks good, the case will likely be closed.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

He may be cancer free for now. However, it is premature to declare him healed.

My daughter was stricken with soft tissue sarcoma. After chemo, radiation, and surgery , her scans showed up as clear. 6 months later, she died from the cancer that had spread to her brain.

I wish this boy a long, healthy life. They just need to be ever vigilant.

I thought one needed to be tested for 5 years before being determined 'cancer free' ? (not that it means anything in relation to this article)

You're right. A minimum of 5 years. My husband had prostate cancer 9 years ago and he is still tested every year.

Where is the outrage..!?

Enlightened spiritual leaders with Christ as the first, have declared that the "Christ" is within us ALL. The "Christ" is the specific individual conscious that guides the individual in pursuit of personal direction.

The courts stand in direct conflict to these teachings on behalf of the "State". The Courts intervention into matters that are an individuals personal beliefs, and "Guide", are intended to deprive the individual from the "Christ" guide that "is in, and of, us ALL"; this, so that the "State" guide would be the only influence in man's direction.

Whatever course the individual uses to treat his illness, is "Private" and no jurisdiction or concern to the "State".., unless it infringes on another individuals physical pursuit of their "Christ" consciousness; not until a ban on "State" control of personal decisions is imposed, will we will acquire relief from the "States" intentions to enslave the ignorant and mis-guided masses....

The "State" is in pursuit of replacing the relationship between the individual and their mental "guide"..; this, is the "States" only obstacle to total control of the masses; physical control is not suffice for their ambitions of a NWO....

When the "Christ guide" is replaced with the "States Guide" as your conscious adviser.., you become a zombie to the "States" material interpretation to purpose of existence.., and thereafter suffer accordingly....

Do not go softly into that "good Night"....

Zankee, the person in question here is a 13/14 year old boy. He doesn't have the ability to make nor formulate any sort of informed consent.

Further, he's rather strongly considered by almost anyone with a modicum of sense to be profoundly retarded. Not retarded in that he cannot learn, nor that he's unable/unwilling -- he's 13/14 and is not able to read. He's never read a book, couldn't read the word "THE" on a legal document.

So he's entirely unfamiliar with the concepts and situations surrounding both his condition, prognosis and treatment options.

His parents, on the other hand have the right to practice their religions. Heck, any mythological path you've selected as appropriate for yourself is wonderful, more power to ya. But such selections give you no right to endanger nor neglect (nor murder, harm nor commit other crimes) against other people, including your own children (relatives, friends, pets, etc...).

So you are seeing the outrage -- the parents are savage and cretinous barbarians existing on the outskirts of society in a cultural limbo where ignorance is an ideal.

My comment was not addressing the "boys" plight. My comment was addressing the "peoples" plight.., and the courts expanding power over personal affairs. If you were unable to comprehend that.., then; you may "also" be contributing to the "...ignorance...".., by your definition,.. to the "...ideal."....

Zank, the people's rights are being protected. You have, as a parent, the right to teach your kid and let your kids watch tv (or not)...

But the rights of the state take effect when you think that feeding your kid is optional, or you try to drown them in the bathtub because you think they are possessed, witches, or because a sky-fairy said it's the thing to do.

These parents are preventing their child from getting life-saving attention. It's not like we don't know how food works and sure, you can do without food today, and maybe tomorrow. But the mechanism is understood and the benefit is universally appreciated by all but the most obtuse.

The medical therapies which they (or at least the mom) tried to deny her son was the absolute best shot at saving his life. Her withholding of it was nothing less than drowning or starving her child whilest hiding behind a charade of "personal beliefs"...

Freedom to worship and freedom to privacy end at the physical well-being (or risks, thereto) of others.

My previous comment still stands. Parental instinct has guided man since his creation and has evolved successfully with little negative impact on the social structure. Political Bull****, on the other hand, has guided us to the NWO; the eugenics lab ; that intends to eliminate 3/4 of the worlds population for the benifit of the rest....

Education is the best medicine for ignorance, get educated, watch the following videos; if your mind's eye fails to open.., there's no hope...:

Wait.. actually, nature intends to eliminate more than 3/4ths of the world's population. And it intends to eliminate the rest of the population. Nature strongly abhors life itself, as is evident when you look at the universe, to find that 99.99999%+ is devoid of life. It's either way too cold for molecular interactions in the vast majority of the universe, or it's at least tens of thousands of degrees (or millions) in the largest concentrations of mass, callled stars (or quasars or black-holes, or pulsars, etc...).

Who cares about the social-structure factor for this article or event... the parents were neglecting the health, after years of neglecting his education.

For centuries parents have tried to pull stuff like this, claiming that their daughter doesn't need food, or their daughter would be cured by Jesus if she had faith that the pain would be taken away, only to find out that food is really important, and diabetes wins. Nothing fails like prayer, as they say.

Fortunately, the loon-fringe is tiny. But it's had the ability to esconce itself within protections that have no basis in logic, and which serve NO societal benefit.

Parental instinct is to do whatever it takes to protect your children. When you say that God is more important than your kids, then you've demonstrated that you are wholly incapable of that task. If a parent is not able to comprehend the situation and ramifications that their child(children) are experiencing, then they've relinquished their parental responsibilities.

It's illegal to drown or starve your kids intentionally. It is illegal for a reason.

You paranoid rants are both irrelevant and tiresome. Don't blame Obama for delusional parents. The parents said that their reasons were "religious" then said it was because he (the kid) didn't like the way the therapy made him feel and ...

That's called "moving the goal-posts". Much like you are doing.

The Hauser case had him stopping Chemo in Feb of 2009. When did Obama take office? The month before?
