Bra colors sweep Facebook in cancer awareness push

NEW YORK — If you thought there was enough personal information floating around on Facebook, brace yourself.

This week a campaign apparently designed to raise awareness about breast cancer is sweeping the social networking site with a message asking women to update their status with one simple word: the color of their bra.

Facebook Inc. says it hasn't been able to find out who came up with the idea.

Andrea Rader, a spokeswoman for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, said the group was not behind the campaign but called it "a terrific tool for raising awareness."

She added, "We just hope people act on it — get educated, get a mammogram."

As a Breast Cancer survivor, I would rather have a Pink Ribbon icon on FaceBook, not a bra.

A bra color notation reminded me of the 1960's when bras were burned in protest. Both men and women get breast cancer so let's just stick to awareness of a disease and not make a gender gender issue.

Frankly, I think the men will be paying more attention to those updates than the women will.

Tor those that did not receive this request to post - there is a link to inform and encourage examines - not sure why those that feel this is offensive have to even leave a comment... this is about lives, if you have nothing positive to say, say nothing.

My guy friends on FB were soooooo confused about what was going on. That was too funny. I still think it was a good thing.

How about a jock-strap for testicular cancer awareness? Relatively little is even said about it anymore. I'll bet if Lance Armstrong had died it would be all over the media, but he didn't die, and interest seems to have slowly waned away.
