ANCHORAGE — Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, will take her conservative message to Fox News as a regular commentator, the cable channel announced Monday.

"I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News," Palin said in a statement posted on the network's Web site. "It's wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news."

Fox said that according to the multiyear deal, Palin will offer political commentary and analysis. She also will host occasional episodes of Fox News "Real American Stories," a series featuring true inspirational stories about Americans.

"Governor Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the FOX News lineup," Bill Shine, executive vice president of programming, said in a statement.

Palin is hugely popular with conservatives and has more than 1.1 million Facebook followers.

She stepped down as Alaska governor in July, 17 months before the end of her first term in office. Her resignation came less than a year after she vaulted to overnight fame as John McCain's running mate.

Palin worked part-time as a weekend sportscaster in the 1980s for KTUU-TV in Anchorage.

Her upcoming commentary career had her Facebook fans giddy with excitement Monday.

"Tell 'em like it is girl!!!!!!," one poster wrote.

Palin finished a nationwide tour in December to promote her best-selling book, "Going Rogue."

With 1 million on her facebook, and millions of books sold....it has to say something for her popularity. Fox has a new "hen" in the house! Sarahs credibility rating was Zero!..now it delves into the negative numbers. AmPhoto...I see you responded to Ritas half baked crowing about Sarah's alleged talents, she has no idea what this woman is about. If she had a clue then her opinion might be in the realm of reality. Besides..where else could this clueless woman go..to NewsHax! Sarah would last less than 1 week on MSNBC! the reality of the world around her would be way to much for her lizard brain but at least Pat Buchanan would give her some comfort.

Given the choice between serving the people of Alaska who elected her governor or leaving two and a half year early to sell her book and hook up with Fox News, Sarah Palin showed her true American patriotism by opting for the money instead. Sarah's new favorite saying is now, "I can see the money from here."

Palin may not be well versed in world affairs...but I reckon that she's a very shrewd political operator. Becoming a contributor on Fox News so she can stay in the limelight with the Conservative viewers...but stopping short of actually having her own show so she can have some semblance of political credibility?

Put it this way; if she hasn't thought that out then someone else has on her behalf. I should also mention that I don't support her in the slightest, but this is, regrettably, a clever move.

On Ms. Palin's part? Or Fox's?

Arguably both, certainly a clever coup from Fox. They know exactly who their audience is and Palin is the conservative's queen. Having her appear on the channel will not only captivate their audience but it will probably result in greater circulation across the channels/internet as Palin is an enthralling figure politically.

With regards to Palin? That depends, but I would argue that in preparation for a return to the political stage (which is still a possibility) appearing as a contributor on a channel where the vast majority of viewers (I would imagine) would vote for her cannot be a bad thing. It's whether she can make the transition back, which remains to be seen.

If she has no intention of returning to politics at all, let alone running in 2012, then it's still a financially lucrative deal and therefore, a clever move.

I still find her to be an odious character, however.

With 1 million on her facebook,

First, not all those facebook people are supporters. I could see signing up just for the amusement of seeing whatever garbage she spouts next.

Secondly, only a twit like Palin would think that having a million facebook friends means anything.

I can't imagine watching her on a show for even 30 minutes at a time. I hear her voice/accent for 30 SECONDS and get a migraine. I would have to watch it muted with closed captioning turned on. But honestly, I'd rather watch ANYTHING other than her.

I hope she keeps her political aspirations. She will run under a third party and split the GOP. Then we can have our "permanent majority". I'd even donate to her campaign fund.

That's only true if you consider Fox News 'the top'.

Stop the ignorance.

I think this is a great thing!

... hopefully she hasn't ended her aspirations for the political arena.

Yes I hope 'she' hasn't either, I would rather see her aspirations dashed on national television for all to see!

With 1 million on her facebook, and millions of books sold ... it has to say something for her popularity.

Does it? Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Even though the liberals try to make her look like a goof ...

For a woman who can't name a newspaper or magazine that she reads to keep herself informed, I don't think she needs any help 'looking like a goof!'

... she is far more intelligent and cunning than they will ever imagine or believe.

I think the jury is still out on this one...

One thing is for sure, Sarah will no longer be able to play the 'politician card' that we all detest so very much. You see, being a politician is about making speeches, or rather, stringing together statements. As far as forensics goes, it's really a very special kind of communication. It's not a question and answer format, the speaker simply makes a statement then goes on with the oration, which may or may not have anything to do with the original statement. The hearer of such communications may come away from the exchange with no more of an idea what was said than someone who missed the exchange altogether!

This is where it gets better, you see, Sarah won't be able to duck statements anymore. When she makes erroneous comments she will be pinned down by other news anchors on rival stations as to exactly what she meant. She will then be forced to either explain herself or show herself for the fool that she is.

Another thing that will become very apparent to the listening public is that Sarah employed a ghost writer for her book. She isn't nearly as verbally gifted as her carefully crafted image would have one believe.

ZeroX.... no one cares about rating except you Fox News Channel groupies. It is funny that is the only victory for Reps and Cons. To cheer that Fox News won the rating wars just go to show how far you Reps and Cons fell. You people went from the Pres to cheering that Fox News has the most viewers and then brag about it. That is funny. Also most people now days get their news from the computer okay. Yeah we hate Palin because she went overboard in the way that she attacked Pres Obama. The sad thing is that Palin has the same things that she was accusing Obama of. She is one of the biggest hypocrites in America's history. Last thing is that I stop watching Fox News when O'Reilly went overboard too in how he attack Dr. Tiller. I can get my news about Fox and Palin from other medias without boosting their rating.

You don't here the other politicians crying that the media is picking on them or there kids like Sarah Falin was doing, That's my point and the other politicians you are referring to will finish there terms unlike Super Sarah Falin! The other Politicians are working for there salaries around $165,000 and year and they all get paid the same unless you're a ranking politician and then you make a little more.

If it was me and I really cared about my families privacy and the media was getting to be to much I wouldn't have picked politics for my line of work like Sarah Falin did! I also wouldn't have took a new media job if my kids was suffering from the media picking on them & I especially wouldn't have paraded them around on stage like she did during the campaign, If I were her I would keep writing fiction novels just like her last book because there is very little truth to it!

Strange, I don't recall any of the Palin kids being mauled by the media. In fact, I recall Obama, just after the news of Bristol's pregnancy broke, declaring flat-out that they were off-limits.

This is one site that she says stop picking on my family and don't pick on the new governors family! I'm not going to waist my time researching the clown's every word. If you go to Google they have page after page of her points and if someone really can't get enough of the queen of lies then Google is the place to be!

The good news is, I think we can take this as a sign that she won't be running for office again. Another good thing is we can watch her continue adding to the list of Caribou Barbie quotes.

No, the guests will be carefully selected and she'll never have anyone on who would have an opposing view, so FNC won't have to adopt a variation of the "Don't speak to the former Governor unless she speaks to you" policy that came up at her book signings.

That won't take away from the comedy of it, though. She'll still deliver gems on a regular basis like how we have to take a stand against the Ayatollahs in Iraq regarding their nucular ( spelling it like she's said it ) ambitions.

Really .... Why would she quit? She is taking everyone who supports her for office on a ride. She has no intention of running for President. She is using the "thought of it" to push her career in front of the camera.

Rather look at Sarah for an hour than Rachel Maddow. The wink is far more appealing than the false serious facial expressions.

Your statement just shows your male chauvinism and your intelligence!! Good thing your lead has your male name or no one would've ever guessed that's what you are (sarcasm)!!!

        Just a matter of time.

She's somewhere right now doing her idiot version of the Cabbage Patch dance thinking she's beaten everyone!

        Moron.

She's about as welcome as a wet burp or an SBD on an overcrowded elevator during a a heatwave and the AC has broken down.

Well, if this is her plan to change politics from the "outside", as she put it at her resignation speech, I'm happy as hell. Her efforts will be wasted right along side all the other blowhards at the asylum known as FOX noise, although her performance as a tryout sportscaster indicates the network may be her skill level. Competition between those pundits and commentators is too fierce to really be heard over the din. They all seem alike. I try watching and get lulled to sleep in noisy boredom. So, good luck with that Sarah. At least you are where you cant do any real damage to the country.

An attorney for the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate says Palin will provide some type of commentary for the cable network.

Easy job without much work just doing what she does best - Lie and run her mouth. No value.

you have to love the comment her own mother in law made when asked .........

"I'm not sure what she brings to the ticket other than she's a woman and a conservative." Sarah Palin's mother-in-law, Faye Palin, indicating she may vote for Obama

lol. I'm sure she's just as qualified to sit on the set of Fox news like the rest and spout opinion masked as news . The no facts zone !

Maybe. Only Todd knows if she would need to bleach or if she's been dyeing her hair in an attempt at "artificial intelligence."

Apologies to SH-2000 and any other blondes out there. I tried but couldn't resist.

"I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News," Palin said in a statement posted on the network's Web site. "It's wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news."

Are we sure this isn't satire?

completely predictable... this is the job she was seeking when she left the governor's office. No responsibilities, flexible schedule, decent money, and an opportunity to work the book and speech circuit on the side. I doubt that she will ever run for public office again. Why subject herself to the stress and effort of having to butt heads with smart people 7/365 when she can just be a pretty talking head.
