LOS ANGELES — The sticking point in Conan O'Brien's exit negotiations with NBC may involve his TV staff, not Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

A person close to the talks said Tuesday that O'Brien is intent on guaranteeing severance deals for his "Tonight Show" staff and crew and he is dug in on that point. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract talks were intended to be private.

The issue of whether NBC retains rights to familiar O'Brien comedy bits including Triumph or Pimpbot 5000 was undecided Tuesday but not a key issue for O'Brien, whose focus was his staff's welfare, the person said.

The proposed deal could pay more than $30 million to O'Brien to leave NBC and "Tonight," allowing Jay Leno to move back to late night.

Leno started slipping a couple of years ago. I don't think he got a fair deal when they promised it to Conan, but I think Conan has made it a bit better. Like Conan much better now that when he did Late Night. Hoping the leave Jimmy Fallon alone. I really appreciate the way he tries to be nice to people, and the variety in the bits, even if I don't always think he's that funny. He's new and learning the ropes and gets better constantly. As for Leno, other than Headlines, I've lost interest. I'll probably watch Conan most of the time wherever he is, will continue to watch Jimmy Fallon unless they do something else stupid and drop him or make him WAY late, but probably won't watch Leno all that much.

I thought they were kidding when I read that Leno was moving to 10 PM, that was an automatic failure. Leno's only drawing card was the tonight show brand, the 10PM idea was laughable. Now the same execs have made an even worse decision. Of course Conan said no, as we all knew he would(apart from NBC execs) . Whoever is the boss of these execs needs to fire them immediately. They seem to be in the dark when it comes to very obvious things.

They need to let go of Leno and give leave Conan at 11:30. Its an easy decision. Conan is the more talented performer. Leno is an adequate host, but without the tonight show brand, he won't succeed. Let him go to ABC, he will fail there. With a decent prime time lead in and some more time, Conan will pull even with Letterman. I'm not sure how many more years Letterman will do his show, but Conan will be in his seat for many years longer, that is assured. When Letterman retires, Conan will rule the ratings.

    Think NBC...think.

When Letterman retires, Conan will rule the ratings.

      Given what reasoning?

That Conan has consistently remained DEAD LAST in the ratings?

Conan took a #1 rated show and put it into dead last place.

If they let Conan go, it's a huge loss.

I agree with all of you. I'm a young adult that watches and enjoys the comedy routines of Conan. I enjoy Leno too, but I also said I'm young. Leno should've retired just as he was, coming to the end of his Tonight Show contract. NBC is showing they're an 'old' person company. OBrien speaks to a younger crowd than Leno. After heavy hype of a new 'format' show when they promoted Leno's new show. Its actually the same routines as watch the Tonight Show when Jay Leno was hosting. Headlines, monologue, and guest performing acts and talents. Sounds like NBC is ran by Jay.

Please NBC get rid of grandpa Jay.

The Tonight show with Leno was number one in its time slot ratings.

The Tonight show with Conan was dead last in its time slot ratings. Even Jay show that got canceled had better rating than it.

No doubt Conan will go somewhere like fox and guess what? He will again be DEAD LAST in ratings again.
