JERUSALEM — Israel has begun distributing new gas masks to its 7 million citizens to offer protection against a possible chemical attack.

Israel's postal service is handing out the equipment. It says the process will take about three years.

Distribution began Sunday. The Israeli military says it is routine and not in response to a specific threat. Israel believes a chemical attack could potentially come from Syria or Iran.

Israel has distributed gas masks and kits with antidotes in the past, beginning with the first Gulf War in 1991. Three years ago, Israel recalled masks after some components passed their expiration date.

This is just normal practice for Israel, war with Iran would be devastating to the world economy I think all politicians are trying to avoid it. I hope

It's sad, when people in their own land, can't sit outside of their homes and not have to worry about objects and or gases being released on them. Then again, I'm in P-cola FL U.S.A, as I was just reminded by my oldest girl.,"" neither can I"". "Aviation noise", since initial complaint to FAA, "coincidentally"; So... they might be better off.

I am so sorry that even the gesture is necessary. A "better safe than sorry" attitude may save lives over there. But what the heck does it say about the whole scenario that would require any peoples to protect themselves in that way?

The extreme hatred and lack of compassion for one another is almost impossible for me to fathom.

That war is inevitable can not be denied. No one is willing to offer an olive branch of any sustainable duration. That is why war will come. And then again, many innocents will bear the brunt of that type of exchange. It is always so.
