BELIZE CITY — Police in Belize say authorities have seized 2 tons of cocaine flown into the country aboard a small plane that made a bold midnight landing on a highway.
Authorities have also detained five officers thought to have cordoned off a section of the road so the twin-engine Beechcraft could land early Saturday.
A police report released Monday says authorities found 80 bales of cocaine in a village near the highway, a main thoroughfare in southern Belize.
It was not immediately clear where the plane came from or what happened to the aircraft and its pilot.
