MACHIAS — Two defendants targeted by Ralph Nader's lawsuit in Maine accusing Democrats of conspiring to keep him off the ballot in the 2004 presidential race have been awarded $1.
The Ballot Project and Toby Moffett filed a motion for attorney fees after the case was tossed in mid-November.
Ballot Project Inc. was formed to keep Nader off state ballots. It and Moffett get to share the dollar.
Justice Kevin Cuddy's decision was posted on Dec. 29 in Washington County Superior Court.
Nader said in his 2009 complaint Democratic leaders used illegal and malicious tactics to try to keep him off the ballot in Maine and more than a dozen other states. The consumer activist and corporate scourge appeared on the ballots in 34 states in the election, which Republican George W. Bush won.
Nader plans to appeal.
