NEW ORLEANS — Bail bondsman Duane Chapman, known as "Dog the Bounty Hunter" to reality TV fans, says he put up the $11,000 bond that got actor Nicolas Cage out of jail Saturday after his arrest in the French Quarter.

Spokeswoman Heather Detert released a statement Tuesday in which Chapman describes himself as a Cage fan but says he was acting on behalf of Cage solely as a client and not for publicity for his cable TV show.

The statement said Chapman won't grant interviews.

New Orleans police said Cage was arrested after he grabbed his wife's arm and pounded on cars in a drunken argument about whether a nearby house was the one they were renting. He was booked on charges of domestic abuse, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness.

Agree with you devilsadvocates.

The man started out with promise, as being one of Hollywood's "Great", but everything, here lately, I've heard about him, has been a negative.

Jobe, have you been in the Quarter? I can see how a sober person could get confused over his rented residence there.

A cabby saw (a very drunk) Cage and his wife having a loud argument on the street. Cage supposedly pushed his wife. When the cops showed up he taunted them to arrest him, although they were just trying to get him to go home - so they arrested him.

The wife said there was no physical violence and declined to press charges.

Cage has always been a bit nuts, but hopefully he's not developing Charlie Sheen syndrome.

I've never known anything about his personal life. I just know that I've always thought he is a fine actor - always delivers, and I've enjoyed nearly every movie I've seen him in.

Sure hate to see him or anyone get caught up in substance abuse and/or domestic violence/abuse issues.

You know, I think I might have missed that one. I really enjoy NC's acting; he might be in my top three favorites of male actors. Thank you for the suggestion.

New Orleans is a city that promotes public drunkenness! Absurd that anyone could be arrested for that.

I have one question. Who in the French Quarter is not drunk? That's why it smells of urine and puke. You know what happens in the French Quarters. It is a street of buildings where there main function is to sell alcohol. Duh!!!! They are not for eating or sleeping, unless you fall asleep after you get drunk.

I wonder if the media, pundits, critics and women groups are going to make him the poster child for abuse, the same as they did with rapper Chirs Brown. So far, Nicolas's arrest has been quiet. Double standard?

A mistake was clearly made. The man they arrested impersonating Nicolas Cage was in reality John Travolta.

it gets old hearing about celebrities downfalls..... aren't they "human" and make mistakes too??? if we make a mistake we aren't on the news... really... let them have their own personal life. i don't agree with public intoxication or domestic violence but just because he is a celeb. his business is everyones business????

I support Nicholas Cage. he is my favorite actor and they were in New Orleans for goodness sakes. It does sound a bit like a scene from, "Leaving Las Vegas" though doesn't it? Whatever happened to Elizabeth Shue...damn fine movie...
