WARWICK — Toymaker Hasbro Inc. will receive up to $1.6 million in sales tax breaks for its plans to add nearly 300 jobs to its Rhode Island payroll.
The state's Economic Development Corp. board approved the incentives at a meeting Monday. The incentives are part of a program designed to encourage companies to relocate to or expand in the state.
Hasbro products include Easy-Bake ovens and G.I. Joe action figures. Chief Operations Officer David Hargreaves says the company has outgrown its facilities in Pawtucket and East Providence. The firm is looking to locate the new facility in downtown Providence.
The $24 million expansion will create an estimated 284 professional and administrative positions within three years.
Hasbro is based in Pawtucket and employs 1,400 people in Rhode Island.
