WASHINGTON — Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism and architect of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was killed in a firefight with elite American forces Monday, then quickly buried at sea in a stunning finale to a furtive decade on the run.

Long believed to be hiding in caves, bin Laden was tracked down in a costly, custom-built hideout not far from a Pakistani military academy. The stunning news of his death prompted relief and euphoria outside the White House and around the globe, yet also deepening fears of terrorist reprisals against the United States and its allies.

"Justice has been done," President Barack Obama said late Sunday from the White House in an announcement that seemed sure to lift his own political standing.

The military operation took mere minutes, and there were no U.S. casualties.

U.S. Blackhawk helicopters ferried about two dozen troops from Navy SEAL Team Six, a top military counter-terrorism unit, into the compound identified by the CIA as bin Laden's hideout — and back out again in less than 40 minutes. Bin Laden was shot in the head, officials said, after he and his bodyguards resisted the assault.

Three adult males were also killed in the raid, including one of bin Laden's sons, whom officials did not name. One of bin Laden's sons, Hamza, is a senior member of al-Qaida. U.S. officials also said one woman was killed when she was used as a shield by a male combatant, and two other women were injured.

The U.S. official who disclosed the burial at sea said it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial.

"I heard a thundering sound, followed by heavy firing. Then firing suddenly stopped. Then more thundering, then a big blast," said Mohammad Haroon Rasheed, a resident of Abbottabad, Pakistan, after the choppers had swooped in and then out again.

Bin Laden's death marks a psychological triumph in a long struggle that began well before the Sept. 11 attacks. Al-Qaida was also blamed for the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa that killed 231 people and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed 17 American sailors in Yemen, as well as countless other plots, some successful and some foiled.

"We have rid the world of the most infamous terrorist of our time," CIA director Leon Panetta declared to employees of the agency in a memo Monday morning.

He warned that "terrorists almost certainly will attempt to avenge" the killing of a man deemed uncatchable. "Bin Laden is dead. Al-Qaida is not," Panetta said.

Retaliatory attacks against the U.S. and Western targets could come from members of al-Qaida's core branch in the tribal areas of Pakistan, al-Qaida franchises in other countries, and radicalized individuals in the U.S. with al-Qaida sympathies, according to a Homeland Security Department intelligence alert issued Sunday and obtained by The Associated Press.

While the intelligence community does not have insight into current al-Qaida plotting, the department believes symbolic, economic and transportation targets could be at risk, and small arms attacks against other targets can't be ruled out.

In all, nearly 3,000 were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks nearly 10 years ago, the worst terror assault on American soil.

As news of bin Laden's death spread, hundreds of people cheered and waved American flags at ground zero in New York, the site where al-Qaida hijacked jets toppled the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Thousands celebrated all night outside the White House gates.

As dawn came the crowd had thinned yet some still flowed in to be a part of it. A couple of people posed for photographs in front of the White House while holding up front pages of Monday's newspapers announcing bin Laden's death.

"It's a moment people have been waiting for," said, Eric Sauter, 22, a University of Delaware student who drove to Washington after seeing TV coverage of the celebrations.

The development seems certain to give Obama a political lift as the nation swelled in pride. Even Republican critics lauded him.

But its ultimate impact on al-Qaida is less clear.

The greatest terrorist threat to the U.S. is now considered to be the al-Qaida franchise in Yemen, far from al-Qaida's core in Pakistan. The Yemen branch almost took down a U.S.-bound airliner on Christmas 2009 and nearly detonated explosives aboard two U.S. cargo planes last fall. Those operations were carried out without any direct involvement from bin Laden.

The few fiery minutes in Abbottabad followed years in which U.S. officials struggled to piece together clues that ultimately led to bin Laden, according to an account provided by senior administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the operation.

Based on statements given by U.S. detainees since the 9/11 attacks, they said, intelligence officials have long known that bin Laden trusted one al-Qaida courier in particular, and they believed he might be living with him in hiding.

Four years ago, the United States learned the man's identity, which officials did not disclose, and then about two years later, they identified areas of Pakistan where he operated. Last August, the man's residence was found, officials said.

"Intelligence analysis concluded that this compound was custom built in 2005 to hide someone of significance," with walls as high as 18 feet and topped by barbed wire, according to one official. Despite the compound's estimated $1 million cost and two security gates, it had no phone or Internet running into the house.

By mid-February, intelligence from multiple sources was clear enough that Obama wanted to "pursue an aggressive course of action," a senior administration official said. Over the next two and a half months, the president led five meetings of the National Security Council focused solely on whether bin Laden was in that compound and, if so, how to get him, the official said.

Obama made a decision to launch the operation on Friday, shortly before flying to Alabama to inspect tornado damage, and aides set to work on the details.

The president spent part of his Sunday on the golf course, but cut his round short to return to the White House for a meeting where he and top national security aides reviewed final preparations for the raid.

Two hours later, Obama was told that bin Laden had been tentatively identified.

Bin Laden was positively identified through "multiple methods," a senior Pentagon official said Monday, adding that he had personally seen a photo of the corpse. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record, declined to say what other methods were used.

The remains were taken to a U.S. warship, but the official declined to say which one and where the ship was.

Panetta was directly in charge of the military team during the operation, according to one official, and when he and his aides received word at agency headquarters that bin Laden had been killed, cheers broke out around the conference room table.

Administration aides said the operation was so secretive that no foreign officials were informed in advance, and only a small circle inside the U.S. government was aware of what was unfolding half a world away.

In his announcement, Obama said he had called Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari after the raid, and said it was "important to note that our counter-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding."

One senior administration told reporters, though, "we were very concerned ... that he was inside Pakistan, but this is something we're going to continue to work with the Pakistani government on."

The compound is about a half-mile from a Pakistani military academy, in a city that is home to three army regiments and thousands of military personnel. Abbottabad is surrounded by hills and with mountains in the distance.

Critics have long accused elements of Pakistan's security establishment of protecting bin Laden, though Islamabad has always denied it, and in a statement the foreign ministry said his death showed the country's resolve in the battle against terrorism.

Still, bin Laden's location raised pointed questions of whether Pakistani authorities knew the whereabouts of the world's most wanted man.

Whatever the global repercussions, bin Laden's death marked the end to a manhunt that consumed most of a decade that began in the grim hours after bin Laden's hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center twin towers in Manhattan and the Pentagon across the Potomac River from Washington. A fourth plane was commandeered by passengers who overcame the hijackers and forced the plane to crash in the Pennsylvania countryside.

The U.S. official who disclosed the burial at sea said it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial.

Why would they do that? And why wouldn't the United States be willing to accept his remains in order to show proof it was actually him? Or his family in Saudi Arabia?

And didn't they claim that they had killed him once before?

Instead of conspiracy nonsense, we need to be concerned about reprisals from Al Qaida and Libya.

The fact that bin Laden was 'hiding' in plain sight says everything about intelligence gained [or not] from our 'allies' in Pakistan and Afghanistan. That the US operatives didn't share intell with either country is very important. That bin Laden was living large in a mansion next to a military operation is disgusting. So, believe whatever you gotta believe but know this: it sure as hell ain't over.

They buried him at sea due to religious belief in that area on time necessary to bury him. I know some won't get it that we live in a more complex world where respect for that culture is important but this is the reality. This did not happen in America.

They took photos and DNA but that won't be enough for anyone who oppose Obama in America. It is what it is and the remarks are what they are - political.

The scariest part of this is that now every Muslim terrorist group will now plan revenge on the the USA!?!

Also, small unknown groups of brainwashed Muslim groups will also be attacking anything and anyone American. Like the US Embassy's and even here in the US there will be deadly attacks on our land!

Unfortunately, Islam is a hateful, violent, intolerant religion, they believe their Allah wants them to kill, it is in their Koran.

May God Bless the USA and our allies, and any innocent Muslim who may die in these revenge plots.

It will not be the end of terrorism, but it is a good start.

Thank you Navy Seals. Great job. Thank you to all our soldiers!

For those who wish to morph the birther hoax into a Osama hoax, ask yourself why Pakistanis, certainly with no love for the US, would feel the need to lie about this.

Yeah, yeah, I know, he's actually been moved to the same hidden bunker where they keep Hitler because you never know when you might need another boogyman.

Yes James, it is complete BS. It's been proven fake already. People have been shopping photos for well over a decade, some good, some not so good. That photo won't be the last fake one that's released.

But why does it matter? Why do you need photographic proof? I guarantee you that no matter what they showed you, or any other hard-core Obama hater, you wouldn't believe it. Short of actually seeing the body for yourself, of course.

I'm not saying you need to praise the POtUS or anything, but can't you at least breathe a small sigh of relief? This may not change a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but at least the soldiers and the families and victims of the terrorist attacks perpetuated by Bin'Laden can take some solace of comfort knowing that he's gone.

2) Buried at sea so that there's no Shrine to OBL

3) The real photos haven't been released yet.

4) Why would they fake it this loudly, when all he'd have to do is pop another video on Al-Jezeera to make the Pres., Congress (who've been crowing about this too), the CIA, the Military all look incompetent.

5) Why would they fake it this loudly when that would REALLY piss Pakistan off (who will already be pretty pissed that we conducted an op inside their borders).

6) Are you guys THAT scared of giving a Good President credit for the Good Job he's doing in making sure it really is MISSION ACCOMPLISHED this time?

This is no time for patting ourselves on the back. When you have the enemy back on it's heels you don't give them time to regroup. The U.S. should consider one more troop surge before Obama's draw-down date in July. And hopefully al-Qaida will be purged from existence.

If Pakistan can't do the job we have been paying them for quit giving them the billions we have for Christ's sake! Furthermore on that subject; if Pakistan can't protect their nuclear divisions from terrorism without our help, they shouldn't have nukes to begin with and we shouldn't give a rats a$$ about their sovereignty! Take their nukes away whether they like it or not.

So... just out of morbid curiosity, I went over to the Fox News website to see their 'take' on this momentous event. I was curious if they would at all acknowledge the fact that this great victory came during the Presidency of Barack Obama.

On the main page (foxnews.com) there was no photo of Obama, no link to Obama's speech, not even a single mention of the name "Obama."

There was however a photo of George W Bush, with a caption that read "Bush: Killing Bin Laden a victory for America."

So I clicked onto the "Politics" page. I had to scroll down below the fold, where I found a photo of George W Bush standing on the rubble of the WTC, megaphone in hand, with the caption "President George W Bush congratulates Obama on Bin Laden killing."

And even that mention of the current President was under an article about the "Obama debt ceiling crisis."

Fair & balanced?

My ass.

JKiff - Why would you think obama is the story here? He did nothing except sit in a meeting where he was told what the intel was, listen to a recommendation, and give the OK. This is nothing more than the continuation of a strategy we have had for years to kill bin laden as soon as we could locate him. obama had to OK the mission because he was found in Pakistan, that's all and it's a no brainer. Fox's spin on the story was the event that led to the killing and the time it took to get here. It's not about Bush or obama. It's about the history of the circumstances and the men who carried out the raid. Praise heaped on obama would be misplaced just as praise heaped on GWB would be misplaced.

Obama certainly deserves praise. As does the military. As does the CIA.

There is enough credit to go around - why do people feel the need to argue about it?

Even Republicans like Peter King have been going out of their way to give Obama credit for this. Obama is the Commander in Chief and to say that giving him credit is misplaced is ridiculous. Obviously, he should not get ALL of the credit, but giving him so little is just as wrong.

He's been given a huge amount of credit, compared to Gen. Petraeus. And that's wrong as well. I have yet to see anyone from the left acknowledge that the man they originally called "General Betray-us" was the leading commander on the ground or coordinated, implemented and executed this effort.

Somehow I had it in my head that I would feel a lot happier knowing he had been killed. But I don't. I know our servicemen are going to be at greater risk in the coming weeks because of it, and I know they were placed at risk because of him in the first place.

Al Qaida is not a snake, and we did not just cut the head off. It's a worm, and we just cut it in half. Now, we have more, smaller worms. The job is not over. We just have more, smaller moving targets.

Pat - I'm not sure that Petraeus was the one who co-ordinated, implemented and executed this effort. It seems to me like it was a CIA operation and therefore Panetta would have been the one to co-ordinate, gain the intelligence and strategize the operation.

He also voted against everything Bush did and declared the war on terror a "failure" while Bush was in charge.

I do however, give him credit for keeping all of the Bush policies (that he claimed were failures) in place after he took office. I also give him credit for Osama being killed on his watch and I give him credit for giving the go ahead.

However, I give 100% of the credit to development, implementation and execution of the plan that led to Bin Laden's demise to Patraeus and the troops.

Believe it or not, more than Obama was involved in this success. And like it or not, Patraeus was a huge part of it. As much as you'd like sole credit to go to Obama...there WERE others involved.

OK. Here's a comment that's about as straight as you can get. Let's see if you can answer it. (not in a circular fashion, of course).

I am on record as having given Obama credit for the death of Bin Laden in this thread and in others. I am also on record as having given credit from the highest commander to the lowest enlisted personnel.

Have YOU given credit to anyone but Obama?

It's a direct question. Have you, or have you not, praised anyone but Obama? Because I can't find it anywhere in your comment history.

Lastly, if you don't like my "tactics", then why do you always engage me?

Put me on ignore if I make you that crazy.

      Good point, PCMan.

It's a day for celebration. Not dealing with people who seem to just want attention.

Just got off the phone with my daughter. Her barracks are still going nuts about all of this. It was fun to listen to her and hear all the hootin' and hollerin' in the background. =)

They are 18-20 year olds from all walks of life, all social statuses and both sides of the political spectrum, coming together in celebration. Too bad some adults can't learn a lesson from them.

Go US Military. We're proud of you!!

Interesting that you can't put in written eternal records any credit should go to anyone else though, presuming Pat has done due diligence (as I'm certain she has) by streaming through your comments, something I have neither the time, the patience, or the inclination to do.

There are MANY that were involved in this victory from the very beginning years ago to the final shove into the ocean. ALL deserve respect, appreciation, admiration, and credit. Sacrifices run far and wide in this and include people like Pat as her daughter is currently serving.

This was by no means a "one man show" and it's sad that when asked to do nothing more that give soldiers credit of actions taken, you seem to be unable to do simply that and then walk away.

For the record, congratulations to the current administration as well as the past for their roles in this, for the soldiers and their families for the sacrifices they make to keep up safe, for the intel that was gathered, be it in Gitmo or elsewhere. For the hundreds to tens of thousands of people that made this a possibility. This chapter is closed - it's time to move on to the next - United.

Pat - I agree with your comments and not sure why you are getting a hard time for them.

However, you never responded to my thought that this seemed to be a CIA operation and therefore Panetta would have been the one to co-ordinate, gain the intelligence and strategize the operation.

Also, the Navy Seal Team Six as I understand it is a black ops team that actually reports directly to the President, so I'm trying to figure out what exactly was Petraeus' role in this???

As a former Republican and current Independant voter, here's my take on how much credit to give President Obama for this raid.

The intelligence guys told Mr. Obama that they had not seen who was in the compond, and that they gave it a 60% to 80% chance it was actually bin Landen hiding in their. After giving this quite a bit of thought, President Obama ordered US troops to enter into a nation whose people pretty much do not like us, whose government has tried to be an ally, while not seeming like patsies, in a region in turmoil.

He did this without asking their permission, or the permission of the United Nations. President Barack Obama took a risk. How much of a risk? What would be happening right now if this had not been bin laden, but some reclusive author? Yeah, it was a political risk big enough to sink his chances in 2012. Moreover, he risked the lives of servicemen as well. If they had lost lives going after this non-terrorist...

However, once authorized, the entire world of credit for the planning, preperation, and execution of this plan is 100% United States Military and Intelligence Services. Oops, we lost a chopper, but no men. And we hit paydirt.

There are those who think Obama did this for the bounce for next year's elections. Oddly enough, these same people watched their own President get shot down after 1 term, even after breaking 80% approval ratings a year ealier. People are fickle. The tide of public opinion can change very quickly, in either direction.

Also, the Navy Seal Team Six as I understand it is a black ops team that actually reports directly to the President

Actually, the Navy Seal teams as well as intel (mentioned in 1.53) report to their commanding officers. Not directly to the POTUS. Their commanding officers report to the POTUS.

Navy Seal Team Six is part of the Joint Special Operations Command. Rear Admiral Scott P. Moore is the Current Commanding Officer. He reports to Obama. Not the Seals themselves.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_P._Moore

Scott P. Moore is a Rear admiral (United States) of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group.[1] Under Moore's command, "Seal Team Six" was responsible for the killing of Osama Bin Laden.[2

What were you saying about "games" again, Dahlia? And can you bring yourself to give credit to Rear Admiral Moore and his team? Or are you going to continue to glorify Obama and Obama alone?

Here's how much credit I give Obuma...

BinLaden died a long time ago. Evidence:

1.Burried him at sea. No validation. They would have to show you BONES. that didnt fit the account of their killing him timeframe.

        2.Tapes send by AlQueerda. Generic

3.Local Witnesses. 'NEVER saw anyone come IN or OUt of compound'.... cuz HE DIDN'T. Intrinsic stealth= NOT BEING THERE. [www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42889172/?gt1=43001]

4.Pakistan says they didn't know he was there.... well, because he WASN'T.

5.Account of killing BinAladin. Has changed. Not the same account now. 'If you never tell a lie, you don't have to remember what you said.' [www.politico.com/news/stories/0511/54162.html]

On that note, and in addition.... I don't need a writ of proof that obuma is incompetent... he shows the whole world in broad daylite all the time.

Although your phrase is cute, it is highly inaccurate and lacks depth; has nothing to do with Pearl Harbor; and is not limited or confined to the likes of Alex Jones. There is too much information that supports the conspiracy and too many people that have demonstrated the false conclusions of the puff piece commission report that was put out. However, if you sleep better thinking that the government is acting in Your best interest then just keep dreaming and counting yourself as one of the sheep.

Haven't purchased any survival gear, but am thinking of it. And just look at the price of Gold in the last 10 years? Wow!

If you think me or any other citizen of this country is going to believe for a second that the most wanted terrorist was killed by US troops and then secretly burried at sea, you sir, are gravely underestimating the trust this country has in you!! But, what a stroke of genius that someone in your regiem actually came up with this pulp fiction to refocus everyone's attention from whatever controversy must have been eating your advisors lately....too bad the fiction falls apart with the words "slain terrorist leader killed and burried at sea" Personally, I'd vote you and all your minions off the island--Oh, well, I have to wait until 2012 for that--but I will be the first in line at my polling place!! This story reeks of BS! Quickly buried at sea so as not to offend Islamic custom? Conveniently shot in the head to make identification impossible? Our country has been searching for this guy for a decade, yet we are in such a rush to dispose of a body so as not to offend to Islamic customs? A helicopter was shot down, but no one injured?

I think exceptions can be made in this case to have the remains brought back to do a decent autopsy, but they probably don't want to reveal that his body was probably frozen for years when he died of kidney failure back in 2002 possibly. This whole story is getting harder and harder to swallow. There are americans celebrating this crap right now, but not all of us are so willing to believe the media. 9-11 was an inside job, and Obama is a big deceiver who is no better than the Bush administration... just perpetuating the grand lie and furthering the same agenda!

You need to go back and check history. Our government did not cause 9/11. That is the most ignorant statement ever. As someone who served and talked to our enemy, you have no idea what reality is. Conspiracy smiracy. Every government does things that its civilians will never understand. Bush would not send thousand of troops to go and die. The US was one of a few countries that would not tolerate terrorists. Period. I am not a Republican, but Bush was right to go after AL qaeda.

Bin Laden's family were THE prominent contractors in Saudi Arabia. Bush family knew the Bin Laden family on a personal level.

              The rest.....too easy.

Yes ... Bin Laden's family is a wealthy family, but they also denounced Osama a long time ago. The Bin Laden family knew we were going after him.

As for you comment about Bush .... are you sure we got Osama ??? His body has been buried at sea and only the President and news media are saying it's TRUE.

Do you believe everything you are told and hear ??? Quit being an Idiot and think for yourself and don't blame the administration that went after him.

If you remember, Obama ran on wanting to stop this war on terrorism, because it was true.

Hmm. I guess the left has become enlightened. Because when Hussein was captured, they didn't give credit to Bush. They gave it to our troops. What changed?

I have no problem giving Obama the credit. But a little less hypocrisy and a little more consistency from the left would be nice.

About as silly as the right must feel now that Bin Laden was captured on Obama's watch (despite the cries that he's a Muslim in cahoots with al Qaeda), I'd imagine.

Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial.

Respect, it may win the war. It was the lack of respect that started it. To get respect you have to give respect. President Obama, showed respect to the Islamic Nations by following their burial rights, not to bin Laden. Like it or not someone has to be the bigger man and step forward, President Obama did that. Respect is taken as a sign of weakness in America, and lack of respect is used to show superiority over another. President Obama and US Special op's did it right. Like it or not, al-Qaeda has to live with the fact they can't use a lack of respect to recruit more soldiers.

Calling people stupid because they don't quite believe the story being told is respectful ? I see.

In any other country they would have put his head on a pole ! Considering this is the third time there was a claim that he was dead I myself find the story a little hard to swallow (the last time from kidney failure), regardless of any proof whatsoever. I do understand them burying him at sea and I can tell you it wasn't done for "respect" to other cultures, it was done so there is no opportunity for those associated to him, to erect a statue or burial shrine to him .. they need at least some of his human form to do so.

I just hope it's true and not a "media spin" for Obama and his annoucement of running again in 2012. The story timing is just a little too strange for me. Osama's body has already been buried at sea, so we will never know FOR SURE it was him, unless you believe everything you are told or hear.

I’m not attacking President Obama or his administration, but I would question any story, without some actual footage and proof of death. With Saddam Hussein, we saw what happened to him … but this story, at this time … I would suggest we all ask for more proof and truth in reporting.

Too many Americans believe what they read and hear and don't think for themselves.

The act of simply questioning everything you read and hear doesn't make you an intelligent person in itself. In fact, quite the opposite is true when your scepticism flies in the face of all logic and reason.

no one is stating the obvious about binladen's death--our president has placed millions of American lives in danger so that he can personally benefit from Binladens death. By announcing BinLadens death to the whole world so that every newpaper and television station on the planet can talk about it, Our President has likely given the trigger signal to hundreds of sleeper cells all over the world who have been silently awating this news to make their next move. When our President announces BinLaden's death to the whole world so that he can gain from it politically, he is deliberately and intentionally placing millions of American lives at risk. This news should have never been announced publicly. By telling the whole world so that he can be seen as a hero, our President has likely condemned us to a wave of terrorist attacks that will cost lives. WHy isnt anyone talking about this???

"I swear its a no win situation with you guys...it really is!"

I am curious what you mean by this and who is "you guys" ?. I think it's a very practical question. Do you honestly believe there aren't any sleeper cells (remind you of 911) all around the world who will be very unhappy to hear this news ? You can bet there will be revenge killings .. etc. This doesn't concern you at all ? Now who is living in a bubble ?

Do you honestly believe this is going to cause anymore terrorist response than what is happening in Libya for example or continues to happen in Iraq and Afghanistan? What bubble? the threat of terrorism has prevailed for decades and will continue to prevail for decades more no matter what has been done or announced.

Who's living in a bubble? So the reaction should be not to air the outcome, but to keep it secret? secret from who exactly...as if the terror cells wouldn't be alerted immediately on hearing the news despite what airs on our own national televison. So by that logic lets keep our own public in the dark and allow everyone else involved to get the news?

"You guys refers" to people who would find fault in the second coming of Jesus and theres a ton of them on this site.

So I read my post again to see where you may have gotten the idea that I said not to tell the American public ... nope 3 times and I can't find it. I just thought the point was valid, that we may see more terroritst crawling out of the woodwork since we as a country have absolutely NO idea how many here, on their student visas learning how to fly or working at your local corner store. They didn't have nearly the same motivation as they do now.

If 20 million people can quietly cross the border from Mexico and nest into your community, do you honestly believe there aren't some Al Qaida hanging in there just waiting for their chance ? I just don't think we should be caught with our pants down and thousands upon thousands of American troops protecting lands other than their own.

News sources are already claiming the photos to be manipulated...faked! Our government needs to go...ooops...on second thought...I want my Soc Sec and Medicare so everything is "cool":) Although I do believe our government is corrupt and evil, on the other hand...

I guess I'll fly my old fighting "69th" Irish Brigade battle flag from the Civil War today. The only flag I have left that I still have any respect for...

This is not the question, Dahlia, of course, the mission was completed, as Pat N. graciously pointed out and credited President Obama and all others involved further up. The question of the photo (what we are discussing now) is that it is a fake, which is a fake, as it's shown up several times over the years. No official photos have been released as of yet.

Thanks Spikegary. I've come to realize that trying to explain anything to Dahlia that doesn't mesh with her version of reality can be trying. Even when it comes to something as basic as a faked photo of Bin Laden that's been floating around for years. Something people on both sides of the aisle are acknowledging is fake. Except her.

This country has too many people of low intellect who will believe anything they are told. That's why TV evangelists are billionaires and corrupt politicians keep getting elected and re-elected. Doesn't anyone have a mind of their own anymore, free thinkers who decide things after giving it some thought rather than doing what they are told. Just like the lemmings who follow each other over the cliff's edge. That's America lately.

The real photos will be out shortly, they will be gruesome, and they will look "right".....have no doubt. And this whole buried at sea issue? What else were they going to do? And again....I assure you....if they did bury him at sea, they got PLENTY of proof of identity, PLENTY of confirmation of the kill, and will not be seriously questioned.

Just a ploy to get us over there for Halibuton and Busch et al and to further the "scarcity" issue of oil and energy AND for the Wall Streeters to rape plunder and steal while our corrupt politicians emptied out the treasury to their friends. "American Dynasty" and "Griftopia" are two great books that describe in detail what we're experiencing...

Our troops we have now are just a dangerous standing army...paid killers who continue to return to duty cause they like killing. Eventually they'll turn on their own citizens because ...like cops...they live in a world disconnected from you and me...it's them against us ideology. Witness the phoney/blind patriotic views expressed on this site! We were warned long ago by our founders to beware of "Pretend Patriots"...and to avoid being duped by them. Now we have this O'Bama playing the patriot card...and Americans are indeed being duped!

get real! This country hasn't had a credible foe since the Civil War (and it was us...although even now we admit/know the South had NO chance). Even WWII was capitalists of the Budd and House of Krup et al to orchestrate us out of the depression. I'm a Viet Nam vet who also noticed that even Westmoreland (on his death bed) admitted it was all for nothing (56,000 kids killed who weren't all volunteers like now)...and these things always are...for greed and gain and power for others...NOT for you and me.

Was Vietnam a right and just military action? Hell no.....but it was REAL, baby! The bullets, the NAPALM, the blood.....it as all very, very real.
World War II.....also very, very VERY real. I cannot tell you how many times I saw the scars on my uncles that they gained fighting in the Pacific.....and they were real....VERY, VERY REAL!

I know literally tens upon tens of our former military from the Gulf Wars, and your opinions of them are not worth the weight of the garbage currently sitting at my curb, waiting for pick up. You can take your "holier than thou" mindless hate-filled rhetoric and shove it down your toilet with the rest of the crap......that is how it smells, that is how it looks, and that is where it belongs!!

Just because there was some economic benifit from that conflict makes it an unwarranted war from a U.S. perspective? Sell that to Mother friggin goose and the millions upon millions of people in the world that survived it!! That statement alone negates the need to answer anymore of that rant of yours!!

No...there was NO chance we would lose WWII. We just had to decide which side to be on...the one most profitable...or remain as a supplier. Ford, Lindberg...many of our social and business elites were friends with Hitler and visited him right up until we entered the war. Mother Goose had many fables for us...some humorous...some frightening (the stuff of nightmares) Peter Peter Pumpkin eater? etc Which category do you put WWII ideology? Yes the details of war are personal and devastating...but the jingoist/nationalist drive is contrived and foisted upon the "people" by thugs for monetary gain in bed with politicians...we were in a depression and FDR's programs weren't working (a fairy tale told to the public) and desperately needed a consumptive war...

Maybe now the Pakistani military leaders will realize that the USA will eventually hunt those dogs down and kill them, and it might be finacially better to take 1 huge payout from the USA to devuldge the where abouts of those wanted instead of monthly payouts to hide and protect them!!

As someone who was in the military for 11 years, and during this war, I find it astonishing that so many Americans are ignorant as to how our military is operated. Military men and women are trained and directed by LEADERSHIP, many layers of leadership, and Obama is the Commander In Chief. Like it or not. In fact, most of the people involved are not actually deployed. He made the decisions and the plans and the military followed through. Congratulations to Obama and our military men and women, as well as our intelligence, working together to finally complete the job that no other president has over the past decade!

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS! GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES OF THOSE KILLED IN EVERY UBL-DESIGNED ATTACK! GOD BLESS THE MEMORY OF THOSE KILLED ON 9/11! GOD BLESS THE MEMORY OF THE PATRIOTS ON FLIGHT 93! and......GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

BE PROUD, AMERICANS! I cried when I heard the news, and so should have ANY proud American....or at least felt that tug at your heart strings!!

I am THRILLED that this was done by ground forces!

This proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that if you want to mess with America, then understand.....no matter where you hide.....no matter how long it takes.....WE WILL FIND YOU, AND YOU WILL BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE!!

One thing I will say, Obama gets no credit for killing this guy. Bush gets the credit for starting the hunt, while all those Dems back when 911 occurred did not want to go to war, pathetic. The man is dead our Service Man and Women who have been hunting this guy til day one and the Bush administration for initiating the war against him and his cronies deserve the number one credit. Of course, President Present, after trying to close down Gitmo, where the info came from, will pathetically try to take all the credit.....lame.

Then candidate Obama said during the campaign that he would go into Pakistan after bin Laden and McCain and every neo-con in the country went crazy saying he couldn't do it.

President Obama said last night that finding bin Laden went back to before 9/11 with the identification of one of bin Laden's couriers. An administration spokesperson has since provided more details on how he was tracked and gave credit where credit was due. But the simple fact remains that, unlike GWB, this president remained focused on getting bin Laden and had the resolve to make it happen. . . and no amount of you twisting the facts can change that.

All of our technology and NO PICTURES? Guys we've been taking pics since the 1800's. Come on you have to be kidding. With the CIA involvement who bungled Obama's birth cert, how can anyone really believe this nonsense? Buried at Sea? Show us the proof! This sounds like a job for Steven Spielberg now. Get the Hollywood makeup artists rolling on this one too. The sheeple aren't as asleep and dumb as those who propagate these fabrications. This is just another political ploy to justify Bush, Clinton and Obama's murderous acts against humanity. They all need to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity along with their Nazi power crazed generals running these wars! Then the insanity will stop.

They have pics....they have video....very, very graphic in each form. They also realize that these must be released for proof. Give them a day or two to let this all "sink in" and they will show what they have.....
