Israeli PM reaches out to Arab world via YouTube

JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reached out to the Arab world via the Internet, asking Web surfers to pose him video questions via YouTube.

Tuesday's outreach comes after a successful global YouTube session in March in which Netanyahu first responded to questions from Arabs around the world.

In a video message, with Arabic subtitles, Netanyahu says he is "especially" looking forward to fielding questions from Arabs. He says he'd "like to hear what you have to say and I'd like you to hear what I have to say in response."

Netanyahu's office says the plea is an attempt to broaden the direct dialogue with the Arab world.

Like other politicians around the world, Netanyahu actively uses Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to communicate with the public.

At least Netanyahu has an open mind and is willing to talk.

This is more than we can say for the Palestinians, who have been setting preconditions and obstacles to peace since 1948.

Those who have an agenda other than peace will disrespect this effort, and will reveal the true nature of Arab views...the destruction of Israel. Yes, there are those who want peaceful co-existence. They are as much of a target of the radical elements as are Israelis themselves.

This doesn't seem like the type of thing a government trying to hide their motives would do. The evil land grabbing genocidal Israel would obviously want to deceive the world, not create transparency, right?

Israeli officials initially warned journalists who would take part in the flotilla raid about their illegal behavior and the consequences. But using a pre-existing legal mechanism to lessen the volume of intruders is an instinctive action. Superiors (who you'd think would have the most to hide) overruled. Journalists will now be given special treatment over other foreigners. And from the office of the Prime Minister of Israel: "It has also been agreed that members of the Israeli and international media will be attached to Israel Navy vessels in order to create transparency and credible coverage of the events."

And from the Associated Press: "The next time Israel goes to war, its combat soldiers will likely be carrying cameras in addition to more conventional weapons."

I'd kindly request agreeing commenters to provide examples of Palestinian governments hiding from the populace, canceling news events, and the like. The most striking recent example I can think of is their actual cancellation of elections.

I noticed that the Gaza flotilla ship was sabotaged today. That is for the better for all concerned. More stupidity is not needed.
