— Police on the Caribbean island of Dominica have arrested three suspects in an attack that killed an Irish visitor and wounded a U.S. couple who own a hotel on the island.

A police statement Thursday says the suspects are being questioned by detectives about the Sunday attack in the northeastern town of Marigot.

Police say three masked men brandishing a machete, a hatchet and a plank of wood demanded money from the U.S. couple outside their Pagua Bay House hotel and restaurant in Marigot.

Irish national Joseph Costello was attacked when he rushed from his hotel room to help. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Americans Rich and Alicia Davison were treated at a local hospital. They have lived in Dominica for years.

Americans want to believe it is alright to own a business in a foreign country w/o any repurcussion of doing so. Americans want to believe that everyone likes us, as they move onto these islands of scenic beauty.

The danger is that the beauty is only on the front page, Behind the scenes there are deals being made to reap benefits from all sorts of dangerous criminal tasks. Fairy tales and paradise is probably over.

Yet, we welcome foreign investors into America, as they purchase homes and businesses. We sell our houses to buyers from out of the country. We purchase goods from the gift shops all over the roads outside of Disney.

We stay in the hotels owned by foreigners. We buy the jewels and the furs from the high-line stores, that the Eastern Indians own. We put our parents and grandparents into the nursing homes that the Eastern Indians own.

But, to go to another country and expect fair consideration sometimes is just being a fool in paradise.
