VOORHEESVILLE — Police say information from the computer of an SUV that struck and killed three women as they prepared for a walk in upstate New York shows the vehicle was going 38 mph before the crash and accelerated to 46 just before impact.

Driver Luann Burgess told investigators her flip-flop interfered with the gas pedal before she struck the women and crashed into a church in the village of Voorheesville on Aug. 10. Acting Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says the Toyota Highlander's data chip shows the brakes weren't applied. An inspection found no mechanical problems.

The speed limit there is 30 mph.

Burgess hasn't been charged. Apple says toxicology test results expected later this week could show whether prescription medication she had taken that morning had been a factor.

What kind of idiot wears flip flops to drive a car? Why not wear pointy toe clown shoes it would likely be safer.

Common sense says it will flip and flop. Because this woman was too stupid and too lazy to put shoes on these people are dead.
