— Life in Greenland is changing, driven in good part by a changing climate.
On this island off the central west coast, families for centuries relied on hunting — for seal, walrus, narwhal and beluga whale — and fishing for sustenance and livelihoods. But a warming climate has thinned the winter sea ice, weakening what has long been a crucial platform for hunters and fishermen during half the year.
This gallery of portraits by Associated Press photographer Brennan Linsley presents a cross-section of Disko Islanders, both older and younger, who discussed the changes they have seen and their hopes for the future.
