Extradition ordered for Sinn Fein leader's brother

DUBLIN — An Irish court has ruled that the brother of Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams should be extradited to Northern Ireland to face 18 criminal counts of sexually abusing his daughter.

Monday's decision was stayed, however, to give Liam Adams time to appeal.

Adams' daughter, Aine Tyrell, has publicly accused him of molesting her from 1977 to 1983 when she was a child.

Justice John Edwards rejected Adams' claim that he could not get a fair trial in Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, because of pretrial publicity, a delay in bringing charges and changes in jury selection.

The judge said Adams would have to rely on Northern Ireland courts to protect his rights.
