SANTA FE — Actor Val Kilmer has sold the bulk of his 5,300-acre ranch in northwest New Mexico to a Texas oil and gas executive and his wife for $18.5 million.

The Santa Fe New Mexican (http://bit.ly/nEgGYn) reports the deed transfer filed Sept. 30 with the San Miguel County Clerk's Office indicates Kilmer sold all but 141 acres to Benjamin A. Strickling III and his wife, Roxann.

Santa Fe attorney Ralph H. Scheuer handled the agreement for Kilmer and declined to comment on whether the star whose movies include "Tombstone," "Top Gun" and "The Doors" would keep a home in northern New Mexico.

The ranch originally was put on the market in 2009 for $33 million.

well,

this is disappointing. I had an autographed "Velcome Neek" sign from when he bought that place and we all camped out to see him move in.

I thought it might be worth something if he actually ran for governor.

So, he insults Santa Fe residents, apologies, wants to turn his place into a B&B and then sells the majority to an oil guy....lovely!

Take the money and run, Val.

Am I missing something by not being a NM resident? I can understand the flippant comments, but whats the deal about his selling part of it? Is the oil guy going to sink some oil wells or start fracking? Why is everyone upset?

yeah, you kind of are. He's been a colorful character, kind of socially/politically involved in NM. If Donald Rumsfeld did the same thing, there wouldn't be much of a stir around here.

me? I just wanted to use the "Velcome Neek" line

Long story short Shelby- He called his neighbors in Santa Fe gun-toting drunkards and said he lived in the "Homicidal Capital of the Southwest", then he applied for a permit to turn his place into a B&B. Not the best advertising, huh?

He, according to him, was forced to apologize to New Mexico if he were to receive his permit.

Not sure what happened after that, since there was no ore talk of him wanting to have a B&B.

As a transplanted Yankee, I would never have dreamed of moving here and then calling my neighbors or my city names such as these and expect everyone to love me!

Well, movie stars ARE a different sort. If that's what he called his neighbors, I hope he didn't go out much at night!
