MANCHESTER — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is coming to the defense of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who's fighting allegations that he embellished his family's history by saying his parents fled Cuba before Fidel Castro's communist revolution.

Romney says Rubio — a rising GOP star who's often discussed as a potential vice presidential pick — and his family deserve the highest praise and recognition. Romney calls the recent news reports an attempt to smear Rubio, and Romney describes the stories as "unfortunate" and "bogus.

Romney made the comments to reporters Saturday in his New Hampshire campaign headquarters.

Of course he would come to the aid of his potential VP candidate.

They are cut from the same cloth.

Romney says he's just like the unemployed because he's unemployed, too

Rubio goes around the state of Florida with his "Lllorada" (tear works) that he is the son of Cuban exiles who fled! Fled I tell you Castro's regime. When in fact they are Baptista ex-pats.

2 faces of the same coin.

It is amazing they readily accept the tall tails of a man caught in a lie but continued until recently to believe the president was born in the US. The entire party is a freakish side Grumpy Grampy, Bible Lady, Illerate Boy, 999 or is it 666 man, Gaywad, Diamond Newt, and Mitt Romney the slithery ring master.

Democracy can't run on lies. It's time to hold politicians accountable.

How can the story be bogus if Rubio has gone to the trouble to admit that he he got a few dates wrong? I could buy that if he meant April 23 instead of April 26, but saying 1959 when the actual year was 1956 is more than just getting the date wrong. Plus, even if he did not actually SAY his parent fled in 1959, that is definitely the impression he created with his statements.

I love how the repubs stick together. Support for Obama against the birthers and slanderers was weak at best and tepid at most. The repubs will shout down as unpatriotic, unamerican, un... anyone who dares dishonor one of their own, something the dems don't.

How did all the Eddie Haskells get elected? These guys lie, smiling all the way at Mrs. Cleaver, while getting Wally and the Beaver in trouble. The Cantors, Ryans, Rubio's, etc are the Eddie's, and we're the Beaver!
