— NEW YORK - Firefighters and police officers are scrambling to remove debris from a construction collapse that authorities say trapped several workers.
Rescuers have pulled two people from the rubble. One worker was taken to the hospital in critical condition, NBC New York reported.
Nearly two dozen firefighters and police officers were on the site of the three-story building in the Brighton Beach section. Wearing hard hats, they lifted debris piece-by-piece by hand. A blowtorch was deployed to cut through the pile.
The fire department says further details are not immediately available.
