NEW YORK — Barbara Walters has named talent-show tycoon Simon Cowell, New York Yankees star Derek Jeter and pop singing sensation Katy Perry as three of the year's "10 Most Fascinating People."

Also on the list are businessman and TV personality Donald Trump, the Kardashian reality TV family, plus Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, the onscreen couple from ABC's comedy hit "Modern Family."

Others include Pippa Middleton, sister of British royal Kate Middleton, and Amanda Knox, the former Seattle exchange student whose four years in custody ended when an Italian court overturned her murder conviction.

A ninth name is yet to be announced. The Most Fascinating Person will be revealed on the broadcast.

The 90-minute special, Walters' 19th annual "Fascinating People" edition, airs on ABC on Dec. 14.

I'm all for Simon Cowell. That guy has done more for British talent than anyone in a long while.

Surprised he hasn't got a knighthood yet!

What exactly defines fascinating? Derek Jeter? Plays baseball and does @!$%#ty Ford commercials. Katy Perry? Hot(with acne prob no less). Pippa? Isn't she like the other Lohan sister? Simon Cowell? Isn't he just a rich @!$%#? Trump? Ditto(except his money was given to him by daddy). The Kardashian FAMILY? Ok, the gay guys on 'Modern Family' are great on a very funny show. I'm shocked Michael Jordan's not on there, but he'd probably want to get paid to be on the list. I just don't get it.

Ugh. Simon Cowell acted more like a spoiled rotton brat (the other night on X-Factor) than his Drew did, bawling her head off because she got the boot. Cowell wouldn't even talk to the announcer. He's disgusting and arrogant. I didn't like the way Drew sang from the very beginning and I was glad to see her go, right along with arrogant little Astro. At least Astro shaped up after Cowell (ironically) told him to act more mature when Astro acted like a spoiled brat a couple weels before.
