BEVERLY HILLS — The names were familiar: Kelsey Grammer, Matt LeBlanc, Claire Danes, Laura Dern and Jessica Lange. The television work for which they were honored by the Golden Globes Sunday night wasn't.

They are actors largely known for their work in film or in shows on commercial broadcast networks. Each took Golden Globe trophies for roles on new cable television series that won critical acclaim and commercial success in the past year, sometimes both.

Danes won her third Globe for portraying CIA agent Carrie Mathison on Showtime's new "Homeland." The series that explored terrorism and an Iraq war veteran also won a Golden Globe for best television drama.

Danes, who won her first Globe at age 15 for "My So-Called Life," remembered being so flustered then that she forgot to thank her parents.

"I am so lucky to have another opportunity to let them know how lucky I am to have their love and encouragement," she said.

Grammer's signature television role was the pompous psychiatrist Frasier Crane for many years on "Cheers" and "Frasier," but he won for best actor in a TV drama Sunday for playing a powerful Chicago mayor on Starz's "Boss."

LeBlanc, one of NBC's famed "Friends," didn't need to stretch too far in his new role. He played Matt LeBlanc in the Showtime series "Episodes," winning him honors for acting in a comedy. He thanked the show's writers.

"They wrote a Matt LeBlanc who, let's be honest, was a lot more interesting and fun than the real thing," he said. "I wish I was him."

Lange, after receiving four Golden Globes for movies that included "A Streetcar Named Desire," won best supporting actress in a TV series for her role in FX's new "American Horror Story."

"I find it ... rarer ever year to find a piece of work that is beautifully written and gives you something to do," she said. "It certainly was this."

Dern was named best actress in a TV comedy for her role in HBO's "Enlightened," playing environmental activist Amy Jellicoe. Dern's mother, actress Diane Ladd who plays her mother in the series, looked on proudly from the audience.

ABC's "Modern Family" carried the flag for commercial broadcast networks, following up its Emmy for best television comedy by winning the Golden Globe. Creator Steve Levitan and actress Sofia Vergara accepted the award with a comic riff in which she spoke in Spanish and Levitan "translated."

"Mildred Pierce" didn't win best TV miniseries or movie, but Winslet won for her acting. She played a strong-willed divorcee in Depression-era California in this remake of the Joan Crawford classic.

"I want to thank HBO for being absent when we needed it to be absent and being present when we needed a little more shooting time," Winslet.

PBS' "Downton Abbey" won best for best TV miniseries or movie, beating out three nominees from HBO.

"How fabulous this is," said producer Julian Fellowes. "The whole `Downton Abbey' adventure has been an extraordinary one, like spotting a promising child and waking up to find they won the Olympics."

Idris Elba, who plays the detective John Luther in BBC America's "Luther," won the Globe for best actor in a TV movie or miniseries. He looked at the camera and saluted his daughter, who he said was hosting a Golden Globe party.

Peter Dinklage, one of the few American actors in the mostly British "Game of Thrones" on HBO, won the award for best TV supporting actor. In his speech, he admitted to being "a little nervous" because he and his wife hired a baby sitter for the first time for their daughter.

The Most Bananas Hair, Shoes, And Accessories From Paris Fashion Week

Today is officially the last day of Paris Fashion Week, which means we’ll be spending these upcoming (dark) months (in mourning) getting all riled up for the next Fashion Week season. We’ll attempt to incorporate as many Spring 2012 trends into our wardrobes immediately (like, say, bright lips, striped nails, and chocolate brown hair), and we’ll be fantasizing about the most INSANE moments on the Paris runways. From double horns (double unicorns?) to sweater heels and seashell clutches, some of the looks said “HAYYY!” and others “NAYYY,” but either way, we were undeniably inspired by the carnival of CRAY parading down le runway (yes, we meant every single one of those rhymes). Please allow us to break it all down for you, oui? TV Series DVD Boxset As for runway hair, while the style isn’t too out there (unless you’re unfamiliar with Coneheads), we loved the gradient yellow and pink graffiti updos at Issey Miyake. This is easily re-created at home using colored hair spray from your local costume store and maybe a high bun in lieu of this conical complexity. The double horn buns at Yohji Yamamoto are also doable in real life, though maybe just for Halloween lest people get the wrong impression and question your angelic ways. We have no clue how to re-create the sausage roll bangs some models were sporting at the Tsumori Chisato show, but it’s such a strange yet cute hairstyle, right? It has a ’40s slash alien rockabilly vibe going on. Drama Hats were all over the Paris runways, and the fine folks over at the fantastically freak-tastic Comme des Garçons (PRAISE) turned out the most cuckoo bananas hat creations we’ve seen, well, maybe ever. Some looked like gobs of white shaving cream oozing over models’ faces and one even blended marshmallow and donut shapes together for one wackadoo head statement. Vivienne Westwood always pushes boundaries, and several of her Spring 2012 looks were topped with gigantic straw bowlers (not to mention matching bleeding blue lips). Yohji Yamamoto also went for oversized mad hatter chapeaus, but as for unusual yet super cool headpieces, Gareth Pugh turned it OUT with his winged-slat hat that covered a model’s face as if she was a futuristic Pegasus queen. Crime In Parisian shoes news, Kenzo imagined Spring 2012 as a rainy season and adorned ankle-strap black heels with a sort of raincoat or parachute material that would keep your heels dry but not your toes. Vivienne Westwood’s pink lace gigantasaurus platforms certainly made a statement, but with that cute pink ribbon tied around the ankle we kind of really want these immediately. The footwear created by Giuseppe Zanotti for the Dw by Kanye West line were a shockingly chic interwoven hybrid of what looks like a sweater and pearls. Bizarre and also GENIUS. Children/Family If there was one category that truly took the Ladurée cake, though, it had to be accessories. Vivienne Westwood boggled fash minds with her“I [heart] CRAP” clutch (just what are you trying to say here, really, Dame Vivi?), as did Maison Martin Margiela and the (real? fake?) leaf-rings they wrapped around models fingers (and will probably sell for $$$). At Givenchy, some models wore gigantic shark tooth necklaces, which, we must admit, we absolutely j’adore for their surfer-badge-of-courage appeal. But if there was one item from Paris Fashion Week that had us craning our necks (and clutching our wallets) in utter cray-mazing style bewilderment, it had to be Karl Lagerfeld’s seashell clutches for Chanel. Weird yet wonderful; we’ll be scouring the bleak shores of Brooklyn all winter long waiting for a mammoth pearlescent shell to wash ashore and into our DIY fashion dreams. Educational This is the original authors, welcome to reprint. Reprint, please indicate the source.
