WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says it is important to resolve the ongoing conflict in Syria without outside military intervention.

Obama says not every situation allows for the type of military action the U.S. and allies took in Libya, which led to the removal of Moammar Gadhafi.

The president says a negotiated solution in Syria is possible. He defended his administration's handling of the violence there, saying the U.S. has been "relentless" in demanding that President Bashar Assad leave power.

However, an Obama-supported resolution at the U.N. Security Council was vetoed this weekend by Russia and China. The resolution would have backed Arab League plan aimed at moving Assad in the direction of a peaceful transition to democracy in his violence-wracked country.

Obama spoke during an interview on NBC's "Today" show.

If Pres. Obama had made the same half-assed attempt, an honest show of support towards the Palestinian people, we would all have been that much better off. As a south side neighbor, I am very disappointed to see him being patronized (blackmailed) by the "israel firsters", at this time when war drums are beaten by the hysterical and dangerous "chicken little's". It is not too late, there still is time for political courage, to set the "israel firster's" in their place, we can not afford another war with any of the latest, self-created "existential threats of the day" of israel, whether Syria or Iran!

Sad to say, the Global Obstructionists and Regressives have caused the UN to take a step backwards by denying the Syria resolution. Rather than a Global Police Action being taken by the United Nations, it now might have to be dropped to a lower ranking Global organization, NATO. Since NATO was basically the only participant in the UN Police Action against Libya, the same can be accomplished just as efficiently. Difference will be the criticism from the Global obstructionists and regressives, China and Russia.

Time for Obama to accept the fact that the resolution he backed has failed and since US military action has been ruled out it is time to move on.

Julie Pace I call you out! ... the header should read "China and Russia sanction Syria holocaust"

Why does AP continuously attempt to demean OUR President? Is it a corporate policy of bias coming from the board room? Is it implied for the sake of your career at AP that you had best skew articles against OUR President.

It is a habit with AP writers - not just you.

Stop attacking our President with implied criticism and stop kissing the butts of the Chinese and Russians who are not allies but are enemies.

I'm not certain but I believe AP is in some perhaps small way intertwined with Fox News .... tho that doesn't seem possible from what I understand ... however if AP sells syndicated articles to news outlets - that would make Fox a customer ..... and perhaps a substantial one with influence ...
