— A spokesman says Gaza's ruling Hamas movement is willing to cede power to an interim unity government led by its longtime rival, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Fawzi Barhoum on Tuesday played down criticism by senior Hamas figures in Gaza who said a decision to have Abbas lead the transitional government ahead of general elections violates Palestinian law.

The decision was made Monday by Abbas and Hamas' exiled chief, Khaled Mashaal, and was seen as a decisive step toward reconciliation. The Palestinians have had separate governments — Hamas in Gaza and Abbas in the West Bank — since a violent split in 2007.

Hamas leaders in Gaza now stand to lose influence. However, Barhoum said the deal was approved by Hamas' institutions and the movement is ready to implement it.

Mashaal also said he was serious "about healing the wounds ... to reunite our people on the foundation of a political partnership, in order to devote our effort to resisting the (Israeli) occupation."

That's all I need to know.

In Proverbs 6 there is a list of seven things that the Lord hates. The seventh thing on the list is an abomination in His sight and it is this: “A person who sows discord in a family.” (Proverbs 6:19 NLT). This extends to people who sow discord among friends and who take pleasure in breaking up relationships. A “peacemaker” has the exact opposite desire. He or she wants to see relationships restored.

hallbi, I have no idea what you are trying to share with us. I do like that Scripture, however I think you are taking some liberties by making it say what it does not say to make a point. Stick to the truth, hallbi, as becomes people of faith, and reason only in truth. Okay?

Netanyahu quickly condemned the Doha deal. "It's either peace with Hamas or peace with Israel. You can't have them both," he said in a warning to Abbas

Well, there you have it!

The Quartet of international Mideast mediators — the U.S., the U.N., the European Union and Russia — has said it would deal with any Palestinian government that renounces violence, recognizes Israel and supports a negotiated peace deal. Abbas has embraced these principles, while Hamas rejects them.

Hamas wants the Jews dead.

"Any Palestinian government must unambiguously and explicitly commit to nonviolence," she said. "It must recognize the state of Israel.

Oh, sure, Hamas is going to step right up to the plate!

The Palestinians want the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem,

And people in hell want ice water!

    Here are the positives

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the U.S. was seeking more information about what was agreed, and that reconciliation was an internal matter for Palestinians.

Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister of Gaza, said he welcomed the agreement. Initial reports that a Hamas delegation from Gaza went to Doha were incorrect. The delegation headed to Cairo.

The European Union offered qualified support Monday, saying it considers Palestinian reconciliation and elections as important steps toward Mideast peace. The EU, a major financial backer of Abbas' Palestinian Authority, "looks forward to continuing its support," provided the new government meets the Quartet demands, said Michael Mann, a spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

The agreement calls for rebuilding Gaza, which has been largely cut off from the world as part of an Israeli-Egyptian border blockade imposed after the Hamas takeover. The blockade was eased in the past year, but not enough to revive the Gaza economy, including the vital construction industry, and many large-scale projects remain on hold.

I would love to see a peacefull, prosperous, thriving Gaza in my day. Unfortunately the only way that's going to happen is to eradicate that infestation called Hamas. And apparently that's not going to happen.

It may happen, when Israel becomes frustrated with the rocket and terror attacks, invades Gaza, and kills anyone associated with Hamas. Then we shall see "Calm."

Kevin, it may come to that. The problem is that typically an opposing force faced with eradication melts into the population. They have so deceived the people (that voted them into power) that I have every expectation that the people would hide them and assist them to escape anihilation. Hopefully Israel, all this time, has been dilligent about building a database of known Hamas operatives, so that even should they hide, they may be discovered.

If they cannot do peace, then they must do war until only those left are the ones willing to do peace.
