FORT LAUDERDALE — A spat over forgetting to wish his wife a happy birthday landed a South Florida man in jail on domestic violence charges.

When Judge "Jay" Hurley heard the circumstances that brought 47-year-old Joseph Bray to bond court Tuesday, he issued a unique ruling.

Hurley ordered Bray to buy a birthday card and flowers for his wife before taking her to dinner at Red Lobster and bowling afterward. Hurley ruled the couple should begin seeing a marriage counselor immediately.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel ( http://sunsent.nl/znDyEe) reports Hurley felt this was a "better resolution" since the incident was minor and Bray had no prior arrests. Bray's wife told the judge she's not afraid of her husband.

A police report indicates Bray pushed his wife during an argument but never hit her.

Women expect their husbands to remember birthdays, anniversaries and Valentine's day way too much. That's women's work.

I agree. Humans are a forgetful bunch. We can remember everything all the time.

I want this judge on TV somewhere. On a different note what if they don't like red lobster, or for that matter what if they don't like to bowl?

Took a law class in Minneapolis some years ago. The instructor was Judge Borg. Totally fun, cute and adorable! What a great learning experience!

He used to tell us about spats he had with his wife.

She would call him "His Honor the Judge." He would call her "RHB." That stood for Red Head Bitch.

    Judges rule!

Judge Borg was an absolute favorite!

Favorite neighbors and friends have been attorneys and a judge or two! Very cool and more than just a little bit interesting people to socialize with.

      Just a side note.

Took the LSAT in Sacramento, CA at UC Davis, further back, probably about 1978. (We didn't have television in our home until I was in high school just to give ya an idea how doggone old I am.)

In taking the LSAT, a strange phenomena occurred.

The test had been administered. The testing was done. The tests all turned in.

The rule was there was to be no talking. Of course, just my luck, a gal sitting next to me whispered something to me.

Just as I was about to respond and get called on by the test administrators who would then require me to repeat the exam for talking during the talking ban, the entire room erupted in whispers.

Well....they weren't going to make EVERYONE repeat the exam.

Neighbor who was a judge used to comment on how he did not care for New York. I can see why.
