Ark. House delays vote on tax break repeal

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas' House has delayed voting on a proposal to repeal a tax break for truckers set to go into effect later this year.

The House did not vote Wednesday as planned on a resolution that would allow the introduction of the repeal. Since it's not a budget bill, the measure needed 67 votes to be considered.

The tax break takes effect in July and was part of a highway plan approved last year that also called for placing a five-cent diesel tax hike on the ballot. The repeal was proposed after the state's trucking lobby withdrew its support for the tax hike.

Voters instead in November extended a $575 million highway bond program.

House Speaker Robert Moore did not say why the vote was delayed.
