WASHINGTON — An independent group supporting President Barack Obama's re-election bid is running ads in Michigan chiding Republican candidate Mitt Romney for opposing the $80 billion auto industry bailout.

The ad from Priorities USA Action draws attention to a column Romney wrote for The New York Times in 2008 headlined "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt." Romney said General Motors and Chrysler should go through a managed bankruptcy process rather than receive federal aid.

The group is spending about $232,000 to air the ads on cable and broadcast stations in cities across Michigan, whose primary is Tuesday. Polls show Romney and Rick Santorum locked in a tight race.

Romney grew up in Michigan and his father served as governor of the state.

Santorum also opposed the bailout.

Oh, these Super Pacs are just so much fun. The Dems get to run negative ads against the GOP front runner in his own State so that the candidate who is clearly a lunatic will win! Great, I love it. You go Ricky boy, keeping spouting off!

Mitt the boy lived in MI.. Mitt the adult is from Massachusetts. Mitt the adult wished the liquidation of the US Automakers and the destruction of the autoworkers. We know who you are Mitt ,you are not for the MI working folks. I will be voting for anyone but Mitt.

I would think this is an excellent use of the Obama campaign money. Should the Mormon weather vane loose in Michigan, all bets are off. And Santorum has no chance in the general election. Calling Protestants the spawn of Satan is going absolutely shock everyone but the T-Baggers.
