Agree or Disagree: The U.S. should strike known terrorists in Pakistan, with or without that country's consent

Early in his campaign, Barack Obama said that as president he would order military strikes inside Pakistan, with or without that country's permission, if he knew "high-value" al-Qaida terrorists were hiding there. John McCain's campaign criticized Obama for tipping his hand in public about what he would do. Both candidates have expressed a willingness to work with Pakistan's post-Musharraf government on anti-terror efforts.

Haven't we learned a thing from Iraq? We must stop bombing and poluting if talking and sanctions will help, and cooperation with the UN.

You can't continually try to solve every problem with military solutions. We should really look into who is winning the war on terror: the people spending billions of dollars they don't have and stretching their military to the breaking point, or the people that are attacking primarily the economic systems of western culture while wearing no uniforms and not acting like any standing army our forces can overwhelm?
A new strategy is needed, not a wider and wider war with us paying the bills and putting our military more and more at risk.

For a country that love's to flaunt our christian background we sure don't live it. "do unto others, as you would have done to you" What do you think would happen if another country bombed inside ours to kill someone that hated that country. Blowing up some schools or hospitals in the process. How would we feel then. I strongly disagree! There's a responsiblity and jurisdiction to handle this things. Why are we so afraid to die that we must kill others. Think people!

I agree and this is why.

The war against terrorism is unlike any other our world has had to face. It is pure distilled evil to the 100th power.

If a KNOWN group of al-Quaida terrorists are holed up in Pakistan, and of course Pakistan knows this and does nothing, they are guilty of harbouring and abetting known mass murderers.

It must be know to every single al-Queida terrorist group that they cannot run across the border of Pakistan, kill as many people as they can, and run back to SAFETY IN PAKISTAN!!

What part of killing and running back to safety do any of you who disagreee not understand.

How do you try and reason with someone that is will to strap a bomb on themselves or even a teenage girl, walk into the most crowded area you can find and blow yourself up, taking as many other people (Men, Women, Children - it does not matter) with you?

If you think the right thing to do is to sit down with these people, surrender to their demands and appease them so they will play nice, you are extremely naive.

                                                      Chuck0410,
It is you who is naive. Your "terrorists", if they exisit, are humans who put their pants on one leg at a time. Please do not make outrageous claims of knowing how these "terrorists" think or operate. The U.S military has slaughtered over 600,000 innocent Iraqi men, women and children. Does that make you a "terrorist"? Today, someone in Pakistan is on their way to work in order to pay their bills and feed their family. What that person does not know is that he will die before the day is out because the U.S military will bomb the hospital he works at.

Since when does sitting down with someone equal surrending to their dermands? That is rediculous. You are a pawn in our governments game. Please tell me why they hate us to begin with. And please, do not say something stupid like "they hate us for our freedom". That is up there with, "Is our children learning."

Might makes right now and always has.
I am sure that offends your sense of patty-cake, play-nice fairness, but go argue with history.

If we find known enemies within Pakistan we need to fry their turbans.
You can disagree with the question[sic] (it is a statement, not a question) all you want.
We still have the right and duty to capture/kill everyone who seeks to do harm to this nation - this includes protecting those who don't like this question[sic].

Americans say they are free and yet we have more people in jail that any other country on the world. We have our army in dozens of countries, I think people all over the world are pretty much sick and tired of American hegemony, arrogance, and hubris. The sad fact is, we have yet to pay $1 of the war in Iraq....we borrowed `100% ofthe money and the real suffering of the American taxpayor has yet to begin. This country is rotting from the inside out.

Ever since 911 I've pondered how you stop terrorism without the invasion, occupation and rebuilding of other sovreign countries. Since the mess in Iraq its clear that we should not be in the nation building buisness..we stink at it...it cant be done and nation building only succeeds when its native people rise and fight for it..not when its handed to them. Only then does it have meaning.

So..I'm thinking highly trained, special counter terrorism, fast reaction, in and out, units should be trained and mobilized around the world for just such types of actions as were hypothosized in Pakistan. I say if we know where they are and have solid intel then go in and wipe them out then get out.

There is always going to be collateral damage but I can live with that vs the countless thousands needlessly killed in the invasion of another country.

Of course the devil is always in the details. We can't afford another 911 and we can't afford another Iraq war...this seems like a logical alternative to me.

I can not believe that we are condeming Russia for invading Georgia after we invaded Irag. We can not take the liberty to invade other countries even if it is to hunt down Terrorists. We have lost thousands of lives in 911 and thousands more hunting the so called terrorists and all we have done is kill inocent people and prosecute a driver. It appears as though we live in a world of double standards. What is OK for me is not OK for you.

We can't just strike at what we think are terrorist groups in other peoples conntries. Since 9-11 we think we have the right to strike at terrorist anywhere. I remember President Bush sayiny we were not going to let these groups dictate the way we live but thats exactly what we have done.

I further agree that negotiating, to come to an agreeable outcome, is much better than the killing of thousands of people directly and indirectly killing us here in the US with an economy that is in the tank, an education system that is terrible, an outdated and fragile infrastructure and a health system that some so called third world countries put to shame. As a country that is "highly" educated and of strong moral beliefs, as we say we are, we sure behave in a very strange way.

Allow me to quote from the sermon of Skeika Abd-el-Rahman, imam of the central mosque of Mecca, who described the jewish people:

"They are infidels, worshippers of calves (Where did he come up with that?), murderer of prophets, who attempted to murder the prophet Mohammed."

He ended his semon with this plea for "brotherhood". beseeching Allah that "the Jews along with all of the other idl worshipppers be utterly destroyed and that god use his sharp instruments upon them."

These are the words of the foremost Saudi clerics, spoken at a mosque at the center of the Islamic world.

The Islam cleric, Mohammed Salah el-Munjeed, stated the following:

"How can Moslems not be joyful when in the killing of Jews and infidels? (That's me, perhaps you if you are not Muslim, and every one else, according to "Sharia Law.")

Let us contnue with his idiotic diatribe:

"Allah will surely gladden the hearts of his followers as they kill and destroy all of them (the Jews)." Words lead to deeds!! Is it any wonder that the world has to now confront SUICIDE BOMBERS, who target anyone who does not succumb to their ideology? Men, Women, Children, Dogs, Cats, it does n ot matter.

In the past two monthes, 85% of the deaths from suicide bombers have been women and children.

There is absolutely no excuse for this type of atrocity!! Are you so far gone that you do not realize that even in the realm of an adversarial relationship between states and peoples, there are LINES WHICH O ONE DARES CROSS!!.

ISLAM HAS BEEN CALLED THE RELIGION OF THE SWORD FOR A REASON!

Muhammad led 27 military campaingns agains innocent villages and caravans and planned 38 others. A quote from Omar Bakri Muhammad (Al Qaeda terrorist): " I am the prophet who laughs when he's killing the enemy."

                                                                              {"commentId":2509895,"threadId":"334232","contentId":"1759333","authorDomain":"chuck0410"}

For Iraq, Afghan, and Pakistan, we need a better political strategy. The war to terrorism is not a war but politics. Think of the case of Northern Ireland rebellion army, they were disarmed by politics but not military.

I hope that Pakistan's elected leaders will next year work with our next president on eradicating the threat that breeds within their country. If they're still hesitant and still interested in simply allowing those groups to grow - we can't just turn a blind eye.

What ever is neccessary to end the conflict with honor is what needs to happen, including ending all this "what is politically expediant nonsence" for our cadidates for president. While we tie the hands of our military the true agressors can now show their colors as we are tied up in another prolonged Viet Nam in the Arab world. Interesting that Russia has been friends to the Arab agressors all along drawing us deeper and deeper while they set their own agenda for aggression!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
